Pluto is an abomination! We'd have to say that Charon is a planet if we let him stay.
The T-Rex had FEATHERS, and DIDN'T eat the Brontosaurus because they didn't exist. They never did.
BRONTOSAURUS' WERE A CLERICAL ERROR.
Ever thought that we might be better off if Charon was a planet? 10 planets in our solar system! Just think about it 10! Instead of lousy 8 and you know a decimal system is better than octal.
T-rex feathers were a clerical error! No decent reptilian would be caught alive or dead with no goddamn feathers!
Charon? Then we'd add the 12 other ones. LAME.
And FEATHERS ARE FASHIONABLE.
LADY GAGA-SAURUS WEARS THEM.
To tartarus with the other 12, 10 is a nice round number.
Feathers weren't even fashionable back in the mesozoic and they sure aren't fashionable now.
To tartarus with Pluto!
Feathers are the prime of flying fashion. All the cool birds have them.

Charon is a moon of the DWARF planet Pluto. The reason it isnt a planet is because Eris is larger than it, as well as there being other Dwarf planets of similar size. Pretty soon we'd keep discovering more of these in the Kuiper Belt or Oort Cloud and pretty soon we'd end up with a bazillion planets.

It has been agreed upon that a planet fulfills these criteria:

1. Large enough to be spherical under its own gravity.
2.In orbit around a star
3.Clears out debris from its orbit, or simpler, DOMINATES its oribit by either slingshotting debris away or taking them on as moons.

Pluto, Eris, and other dwarf planets fail criteria 3. These criteria were agreed upon in 2006 by the IAU.

How about, "That big glowy orb in the sky that looks a lot like an orange and gives us light and warmth"?
TBGOitStLaLLaOaGULaW?
Yes yes! And we shall form a cult that worships TBGOitStLaLLaOaGULaW, and his brother, TSGOitStLLaC. (The small glowy orb in the sky that looks like a cookie).

Yeah, technically, it's called Sol, which aside from being the correct name for the closest star to us is a name that is tits.

Pluto is the roman god of the underworld...so he is in charge of tartarus...
All the cool BIRDS have feathers, unless you are calling T-rex a bird you must admit that T-rex doesn't now or ever had any feathers, because its a reptile.

I think we should change the Sun's name from "Sol" to "The Death Star". Because it is deadly, and it is a star.

Our sun is actually called Sol.

Sol is awesome.
But sol's just another word for sun...
No it's Latin.

Should we call the rhino 'nose'?
and Spanish.

We could call Rhino "nose" if we wanted to. I guess the only problem with it would be the ambiguity of it.

But 8 is perfectly symmetrical both horizontally and vertically! Noooooooo!

It's a little too inconsequential, but it's still pretty cool. I won't really be using it, since I don't think it can catch on.

Depends on how you put the 8 objects. Also what planet are you from? Around here we use the decimal system.

That's corny and generic.

Besides Sun is, you know, Sun. You don't need to make some witty symbolic name for something that is in itself one of the most significant symbols. The word 'Sun' carries a lot of meaning and I doubt you'll ever be able to come up with an alias so awesome that it holds a candle to that.

Sun is one syllable, Daystar being two. Much easier for babies to learn sun than it is "Daystar".

Why? Well, it's more practical for astronomical purposes. It sounds more awesome. And it sounds like a horrifying space monster made of flame that will devour our puny planet, like it actually is.
I'm for this..... gonna make it part of my Global Regent election campaign platform.

...dude, it was soul eater reference to tickle my own fancy, and the actual number, 8, is the only perfectly symmetrical number. The actual symbol. Not the number of objects.

In that case you're right, 8 is symmetrical both vertically and horizontally. But how about 0?
