...and when I got home I found the shop hadn't given me a CD key with it, so I couldn't install it. Yesterday I went back in to see if they could give me a CD key. They said it was on the readme file. Got home, checked it out, No readme file to be found. I tried installing it on a friends steam account, as he had already put a CD key in. Then I found that it needed two disks and they had only given me one.

So I phoned them and they told me they had the manual and the other disc tied up with an elastic band in the shop. I was not amused.

Has this sort of thing ever happened to you?

If you tell us the shop, we'll make sure to steer clear of it. It's obvious they were trying to stop people stealing the games, but forgetting about giving you the important stuff after a sale is akin to selling you a false product.

Nope never happened to me. Where did you get it from? Mine was from Futureshop and if you got it from Gamestop or EB I wouldn't trust them with MMO's or any other game that needs a key

Occasionally I've had the wrong disc put in a case when buying, but Ive always got it fixed on the first trip back. Certainly never been told crap like that.

Look on the bright side, once it's installed you can join the Escapist Steam group and blast away to your hearts content!

This is why I tend to buy all games either on steam, or from a store that doesn't open the games and remove the discs and manuals. Last time I did buy a PC game from a place that did, I bought Vanguard and they didn't have the cdkey at the store. So I took it back and got a free upgrade to the collectors edition, which was a nice bonus I guess. Even thought I only played the game for about a month. :p

Actually i just brought the orange box aswell (yes i'm abit behind the pc gaming) anyway i got my online off Playtrade some random user selling part of Play.com, mine arrived perfect and i got it fairly cheap yay

But I normally buy my games either online through Steam or a certain store, I remember buying Day of defeat source from GAME and when i tried to activate it online they CD key was already in use which pissed me off and GAME gave me some random crap that i already activated it not happy with GAME!

I usually buy my games in sealed big boxes from stores that leave em in the plastic, or by steam.

If I occasionally buy one in a regular/kids store I allways ask them if I can check for the contents before paying and especially the cd key, I dont care if I get strange looks.

I don't quite do this, but I always check everything before I leave the store car park.

I was sold a used game that had halo rings on it already. I looked at it when I got in the car and saw them, so I got back out and took it back.
I had to have a discussion with them about how I didn't do it, it was already broken.

I was not happy with the trouble I had to go through to get a working copy of Bioshock.

I bought a used copy of Kingdom Hearts II at ebGames, with the warranty. I put the game in my PS2 and it pretty much froze right off the bat. I tried skipping the movies, but it froze in-game too. I went back to eb and exchanged it for a working copy and everything's fine now.

Well, ive had good luck, and bad luck.
I had lego indiana jones that came with the 360, I sold the case for £10.
I left the game disc at home.

I bought Call of Duty: WaW (Non Preowned when i thought i bought it, found out it was.) I went home to play it, halfway through the second mission the game froze.

When I went back to GAME they gave me no refund on used games.
I didn't even ask for a preowned version. I got it off the shelf non-preowned.

Then I had a shout at them and they gave me an original copy. :D
