Just preordered Skyrim today from GameStop. I'll also be preordering Halo Anniversary and Assassin's Creed Revelations soon too. Honestly, I feel like it's worth it for the bonuses you get and for the joy of playing the game on release day.

On an off note, if you liked Fallout 3, why the heck don't you like New Vegas? They're nearly the exact same game, with New Vegas having a better story and better DLC, and Fallout 3 having better gameplay if only because Fallout 3's skill challenges are actual challenges and not just checks like in New Vegas.

EDIT:

ive always just walked into Gamestop on release day, asked forr the game i wanted, and always got one with the bonuses packed with it.
There's no way you managed to do this, since you can't get a game from GameStop on release day without a preorder. I've tried, believe me I've tried and they will not let you do it.
Yes i have. Later in the day. I don't mean 12:01AM, i mean 12 noon or later, they still have copies with the preorder bonuses.

I don't like pre-ordering as I don't have that much spare money lying around. I like to read reviews, get opinions of people who have played and then make a decision.

Also, sales help...and buying used.

Hey, I'm cheap.
That's not cheap, it's economically sound. I really don't understand how anyone can afford to drop $60 on a game unless they're independently wealthy; doing it blind is even weirder. To me, pre-ordering a game at $60 is as alien as betting $10,000 on a single roll of the dice. Who on earth can afford to do it?

Very few games do I just buy blindly but I have already pre-ordered Catherine for PS3 just because it's made by the Persona team and I'm a fanboy. I've also played it's demo and it's amazing. Other than that though I've only ever pre-ordered one game and that's the first Rock Band.
This. Really. The only two things that i have pre-ordered was rock band and catherine, just the other day. I usually wait untl I hear more about games, but i am a huge persona fanboy, so I just went and ordered it.

Really depends on the game and store location then. I've done this a few times. Most recent was Halo: Reach. A bunch of my friends grabbed it so I decided to go buy it and they gave me the pre-order code with it.

Some stores will only have enough to supply to pre-orders, others might have a surplus. Usually the former.

Yeah, I didn't mean midnight. I went in on release day around 3 when the latest Smash Bros. came out to purchase it. They told me that if I didn't have a preorder I couldn't buy it.

Yes, I'd assume it does. I like to theorize that the GameStop here is run by a bunch of sadistic freaks who take joy in raping their customers' wallets because they know that there's nowhere else for those people to purchase or trade in games, and they will exploit that as much as they want.

Of course, it's just a puppet of a chain run by dicks who enjoy giving people pennies for a game they payed $60 for knowing that their customers will continue to come back because there's not much in the way of competition out there.

Will I still purchase things from there? Hell yes, there only other places here you can purchase games are Target, Kmart, and F.Y.E. and none of those offer preorder bonuses or even take preorders. I'll just purchase less because Steam is amazing.

usually will do a preorder if it is a sequel, like arkham asylum. however this has led me astray in the past (see black ops). i also preordered the collectors edition of new vegas, which was ok, but not as good IMO as FO3.

Last game I pre-ordered was Dragon Age 2, I actually liked the game, and before that the last game I pre-ordered was, ummmm... no idea actually, so I guess I have had no problems with pre-orders

When I pre-order, it's because I know I'll buy the game even if it turns out crap anyway.

I never pre-order, don't have the funds to gamble on games, I gotta be sure it's something I'll like. Skyrim is probably the only game I'll take an exception to, and only because it has been in development for years and follows up on oblivion which was great.

I only pre-order when I know for a fact I will enjoy the game (but I rarely pre-order).
Right now I'm debating whether I should pre-order Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

I generally only pre-order games from series that I trust. I currently have Battlefield 3 and Saints Row 3 on pre-order. The only time I ever made an exception to the rule was for Just Cause 2 and that turned out to be one of my favourite games ever.

I pre-ordered Black Ops the night before it came out.
While I have spent almost 300 hours in it (according to Steam, at least) it's always been a guilty pleasure. I have loved it, or rather did, but I now fail to play it at all.

And what are you talking about, OP? I loved Fallout: New Vegas. :D

I'd just like to add that after reading a lot of Dead Island reviews, I think it looks generally disappointing. Not *bad*, just not $50 worth of good.

So, called it.

Last two games I preordered recently were New Vegas and Dragon Age 2. Both games I thoroughly enjoyed, even if the former is crash-prone.

I also had to decide between Battlefield 3 and Skyrim recently. Ended up with BF just because of the bonus. Really, that's the only reason to preorder anymore (at least on PC). Otherwise, the Steam store isn't going to run out any time soon.

I only pre-order sequels to games that I already love.
I'm quite cautious when it comes to pre-ordering...

I only pre-order from franchises that have never let me down, or if the devs give away neat trinkets with them.

Mostly ones like Rockstar, Bethesda, etc. But even with them, I'm wary of new IPs.

I have mixed feeling about them. The worst experience I had preordering was with Prototype, a game I didn't enjoy that much. Didn't even get the map with it because they ran out(It was the first bloody day and the store had been open for roughly 5 hours). Was going to preorder dead island but decided against it. Only game I have preordered at the moment is Skyrim. That is just because I know that game will be one I will like.

In my experience I have no problems with pre-orders so long as I thoroughly research the game prior. In order to do this though, you need to have reviewers/previewers that you can trust or who enjoy the type of games you do.

Previews of bad games always come across less poor than the reviews, giving developers the benefit of the doubt.

I'll pre-order if the incentives are good enough. Skyrim, for example has a terrible incentive. The map is neat, but not worth money upfront, as such that game can at least wait for game reviews and player reviews. Dragon Age 1 or 2 on the other hand came with exclusive in game items, DLC the like...far more attractive and well worth the pre-orders.

The only game I recall ever having pre-ordered and being disappointed in was GTA4. Most people loved the game..and the reviews would have led to a purchase later...but I found the game boring within a couple hours.

I first learned to be careful with my preorders after Turning Point and Haze then I got a refresher with Fallout New Vegas. I still preorder, but now not as much and mostly sequels.

Not really that excited for Dead Island.
