Yeah me either. The thing has aged about as well as a 2 month old turkey sandwich.

Seriously neither this game or the original Zelda have aged nearly as well as all the grown 80's kids like to say they have.

No these game have aged atrociously and the only reason anyone had any patience for them back in the day was because they had the time too because they were kids. And they had no example of how these concepts could be better executed.

But now we do. Hello Super Metroid and Link To the Past.

It's a relic of it's time. The first Star Wars for example isn't a high quality movie. The story and characters are weak. The tech is dated. But it was highly influential and it was a "classic" in that sense.

Metroid is pretty much the same thing. Super Metroid made it obsolete as far as quality goes.

It hasn't aged well. In my opinion, most NES games haven't aged well, even the "classics". Metroid is probably worse than average though because the open and labyrinthine nature of Metroid games really suffers without a map or detailed environments. To be honest it's a little surprising to me the series got off the ground all things considered, though I'm super glad it did.
