I hate these threads.

It's all about the OP lamenting how angry and upset they are with the human race because someone not only didn't flush the toilet when they were finished, but they left the toilet seat up! /dramatic gasp

Horrible stories can be horrible, but with each sunny day must come a thunderstorm.

Whining. When people start whining about something minor or something that really doesn't matter to anyone else than them. Then I really want to leave this planet.

I can think of a lot of other things to, but this was the first thing that popped into my head. I've been listening to people whining too much lately -_-

For me, it's less that I want to leave the planet and more that I want to send various people to the prison mines on Titan (which I will build once I'm Supreme Immortal overlord of the solar system) for pissing me off.
The most recent group of people that pissed me off so happened just a few days ago. I work at a major retail store which will remain nameless, and I was zoning the toys section. I had been busting my ass all night to get my zone looking perfect. I was nearly through with my zone when a customer came up to me asking for help finding a certain doll. When we get to that aisle I see that it's been fucked up, toys rearranged and pushed out of place.
After I tried to find the doll they wanted (which we didn't have in stock) I fixed what was messed up, right in front of the customers. Not five minutes later, when I was going back through my section to see if I needed to do any touch ups, I noticed that the doll aisle (the one I had just fixed) was fucked up again, even worse this time. An to make matters worse, four other aisle had been similarly fucked up by the same group of customers (two adults and three kids).

I really agree that humanity needs to work on orbital colonization and asteroid mining at least, and that does not sound bad to me in the slightest- that and the fact that most people going there would probably be more intelligent in general and also wanting to get off world for the same reason(pioneering, adventure, expansion, manifest destiny, a new frontier, ect.). If you find a way off of this planet I think tons of people would leap at the opportunity for their own reasons.

OT Yes, I will jump on that shuttle with you if you find one, and the thing that makes me want to jump on that shuttle with you is the absolute idiots that comprise the general population(at the flight 93 memorial today, some red necks were busting their guts about how useless all this research and exploration in the oceans and space was- not just dissing science in general but disrespecting the memories of the people that died there).

Well, here's the thing. The earth is messed up, there is no doubt about that.

However, it's the only planet we've got. If we mess up here, we're kind of screwed. So, instead of trying to leave the planet, I suggest that we, the smart people (They only let smart people join the Escapist right? Just making sure) try to improve the situation, instead of just avoiding it.

OT: I'm gonna have to agree with earlier posts about medication. While it's a great help right after surgery, I have a thing against long term medication. I was put on Ritalin as a kid when I was mistakenly diagnosed with ADHD (Actually have a type of Dyslexia) which screwed me up pretty good. Luckily, I was taken off of it quite quickly, and got my act back together.

While I'm clearly not qualified to assess your friend's mental state, I personally believe that people will do better off medication than on it.

Racism, sexism, etc.
Although one thing that drives me REALLY crazy is when there is (for example) a commercial, with a black guy doing something weird. People immediately shout "RACISM!!1", however, if he'd be white, they don't care.
...Which is racist.

Oh, and hipsters. I almost forgot that.

And people celebrating death, no matter who it is. It's sick.

A bit personal but i'm not to worried. My brother died and my other brother and sister decided to fight over his belongings. Classy. That's probably the only moment where I truly wanted to take off into space and leave this world behind. But don't have any superman powers so had to remain grounded.

The problem is thus; there is no where for the pioneer, cowboy and crazy risk taker, ext. to go anymore. In the earlier years of human civilization you just packed up your things and moved away, that is how new villages started, then new cities and new countries. Then when it got crowded there was America to move to, it was a horrid, barbarian infested untamed hell, and just the kind of place people were looking to move to, the kind of people who hated society anyway.
Then America was settled, there were a series of wars and people moved west, as the east was too damned civilized... then there was no where else to go. So we had a few really big wars, so all the crazy people who hated civilization could go somewhere. Now, now there are no big wars, and there are no untamed frontiers we can get to.
Hell if the government stopped preventing private companies from exploring space we would be on mars and in the asteroid belt by now, and people like myself would have a place to go. But then the governments of the world would have the same problem Britain did all those years ago, self sufficient people don't want to pay your taxes and abide by your rules anymore.
So, all we have now are video games to distract us from the drudgery and banality of life, they are keeping us from killing each other, but I don't know how long they will continue to do so, especially if things keep getting worse.

OP, you could always try punching someone. Especially if you're not of age yet, there'd be no consequences and after a few tries people might learn some common decency. Or not, but even if they don't you have the satisfaction of pointing to their scarred face when someone acts stupid and saying "THATS what happens to idiots around me."
That is a serious option right now, I've never been in a proper fight in my life, but anyone who chooses the wrong day to get on my nerves might just change that...

I completely agree, I had reservations about posting this thread at all, however I felt the discussion at the end was worth a bit of a rant, plus I think my rant is ever so slightly more serious than 'someone left the toilet seat up'.

Also I am an incredibly positive person (I tried to get this across in the original post) and always look at the good in bad situations :3

Not to prod or anything, but the "more medication" part belies a far more problematic life for your girlfriend. Something tells me the incident and the history are interconnected (just a hunch).

I hate coming off as an ass so I will try my best not to be one, but seeing as my sister seems to adore people with plenty of their own baggage I can't help but feel your view on life is a little skewed (not a jab, just a statement that rings through to the majority of people). It's a good characteristic, being able to accept and endure another's problems, but I imagine it can twist your opinion on life towards the negative (which to be blunt, probably won't help things overall).

Personally the most hated person in my life is a Social worker. I'm essentially broke, closing on homeless if I can't scrape some money together (currently out of work and no work available anywhere I've looked), not only that but my contribution towards bills and rent are affecting 2 other people who aren't fairing much better then me (though they have work). So I have been looking high and low for work, but need a helping hand to keep me afloat so I don't end up on the streets (and my 2 housemates too).

So I go into social welfare in hopes that I can sort out some form of allowance while I'm between jobs. Due to various arbitrary reasons, I've been rejected (multiple times). What's more, I have been laughed at and nasalgazed by these people who I have come to begging for support.

I have never felt so small in all my life. I have also never experienced such primal rage. Has anyone here ever screamed so loud they hurt their own ears? How about while crying and also bursting a blood vessel? Fortunately I still have some dignity, I didn't do it to the bitches face (instead I bit my lip so hard I now have a scar on it).

First few years of independence have not been pleasant.

Yeah, I'm not a happy camper at the moment. If I could pack up and leave right now, I would... the fuck do I care where I end up? The vacuum of space would be a better alternative then going back to social... at least it would be brief.

But saying that, I still have friends who are a breadth of fresh air in all of this and (if they had enough for themselves) would gladly help me out, relations who should worse comes to worse, will lend me a bed (or couch) to sleep on and keep my belly full. I'd rather stay here with them then be alone in the vacuum of space (idealistically, I would just take all those closest to me and take off... pfft, dreams right?)

While I can still laugh, and wag my middle finger, I have my answer to most problems that life throws at me.
I'm sorry about your situation, I have several close friends in your position, 3 of my friends are homeless and sofa surfing just for a place to sleep.

No income, no home, no support. No social worker will take them in and grant them housing benefit or even let them sign on.

It's a fucked up system...

Also I'm very used to helping other people with their problems, it no longer gets me down at all, my current girlfriend has a disorder where she sees her body differently, she constantly thinks she's fat or ugly and truly believes it even though she is beautiful, it doesn't upset me when her disorder gets bad, I just make sure I'm there for her :3

Equally, some bad things have happened to the girl I was talking about in the original post, when I heard about her mother I didn't even feel upset, I was just angry.

Tomorrow is a new day and I will enjoy it :3
