Funny that. Every game gets developed on a PC and yet its a market that can lose business and innovation to the console market. I always found that odd. If you develop it on the computer every time why is there not always a pc version?

Hmm, I'd say massive piracy coupled with the fact that console versions of games sell a heck of a lot more than their pc counterparts do, for the most part? Plus they've been 50 dollars for like 20 years now, we've been lucky to last this long.

while, at the same times, were getting more and more shitty console ports. Console games have to pay $60 to cover the game and licensing fees, but what do we have to pay more for on PC? Pay for them to port it over and not even bother to even change the controls for easier use with a keyboard (Singularity)?
This is indeed a sad trend, which is why I usually wait a few days to read reviews from people who bought it and gaming sites, usually shitty optimization is one of the first things to be pointed out. We just need to start voting with our wallets that bullcrap like that just won't be tolerated.

However, you have to weigh what we have over console users: we have mods. Poor, poor console community.. :(

Not every PC port is shitty. Black Ops was probably the worst one that I can remember since ever, but even that got patches.
I read this a lot, and I just don't know where it comes from. I got Blops on launch day (30 bucks at amazon! WOO!), it took me two days to beat the single player campaign without getting any patches and I thought it worked fine. It didn't run as well as Modern Warfare did but I assume its because it was more graphically intensive anyway. I've played some shitty PC ports in my day but blops just wasn't one of them.
Massive piracy is only rampant on games with heavy anti-piracy measures, and in the great down under PC games are on average cheaper than their console counterparts. Console games can go as high as $110 for a standard game. PC games at $110 are almost always the special or collector's editions - and that's stretching it. Most special and collector's editions are closer to $90 on release.

But in my eyes, PC gaming is now dying. Yeah, sure, people will come post that "PC Gaming, happily dying since..." picture, but that doesn't change the fact that more and more games are being bumped up to $60 instead of $50 (Skyrim, Rage, Assassin's Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2), while, at the same times, were getting more and more shitty console ports. Sad to say, but considering that I can't afford to pay this much for the lower quality of games we are getting, and the fact that I can't aim for shit with analog sticks, it was nice knowing you gaming. Hopefully more indie games come out for PC so we still have something of quality to play.
Hah, was gonna make a thread concerning prices on PC games. Like seriously, what the hell? 60$ for a possibly 14-20 hour game is so bleh.

This is, very sadly, not the case.

Or check for torrents for any game using Steamworks or a simple disk check. Basically the more popular the game, the more it gets pirated. Simple as, sadly :(

The only people who think PC gaming is expensive are wannabe console converts who buy a pre-made $600 PC for $2k. Upgrade every 6 months? My 4 year old PC is doing just fine keeping up with the 5 year old consoles and their game ports. There isn't a game made today that a $150 card can't max out at 1080p.
Yes there is, Metro 2033. That game is a pig. That said, your $150 card will still make it look better than it did on a console, which was probably your point.

I have a suggestion for those who think they are paying too much for games, don't buy them on release day, wait for then to drop in price in stores, or wait for a Steam sale.

Actually looking at the situation realistically, consoles are dying. In a decade or so, silicon technology will reach its max. A cheap PC will be able to run any console game just as well, for less cost! This pretty much eliminates the current price issue with hardcore PC gaming. Consoles have always just been computers that are at the maximum curve possible for technology when released and sold for a loss (therefore the lower prices). After the curve is eliminated by the fast approaching wall, that strategy of offering a more powerful machine at a far lower cost will pretty much vanish as maximum potential machines will become the standard.

well speaking as a mainly-console gamer, I believe it's because consoles are more convenient and less costly that PCs

a console costs between $200-300
a decent gaming PC costs between $800-2,000, and add to that the risk of viruses and the outdating/malfunction of hardware

What the bloody hell are you talking about? :D
I can crush this argument with one very simple example. It will make me feel dirty but it's worth it to make someone relise how wrong they are. Are you ready?

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Fastest selling PC game of all time, most copies shifted of a PC game in a year and can you name a big title that's been released since it came out?

I actually assumed that PC gaming is growing more and more every day. My friends and I are investing more money onto PCs than consoles, if only because PCs are both forward and backwards compatible. In the long run, PCs can actually be less expensive and much more flexible. If some game or add-ons aren't available via purchase for whatever reason there are ROMS and torrents that can provide virtually anything you need.

Seriously stop Making these threads there are like over 9 thousand of them and saying PC gaming is dead is just plain stupid with the force that casual games like everything by PopCap are more popular than ever and most of they're sales are on PC also the MMO market is getting bigger and bigger and it's almost exclusive to PC so just stop saying this I'm sick of hearing this!

Ayayayai if I could I would probably play as much pc gaming as I do consoles possibly more with Oblivion but my computer is dead and I'm typing this on an iPod so I can't play any computer games. But it's from a console gamerish perspective I wouldn't say it is dying people still open threads about tf2 on the pc and when my computer was still alive I saw my friends on steam playing games all the time. Plus minecraft don't forget about the minecraft

Oh, I have Orange Box and have played several hours of TF2. I just don't find it that great to play over and over. I've moved on to many many other games.

Don't just look at the big big titles look around for smaller ones.

When ever someone says PC gaming is dead it will always be a fail because you need a PC to code the game for what ever console

You know, that picture that gets posted all the time exists for a reason.

Anyway, to you I present; RTS/turn based games including Star Craft and Civilisation, the Sim games are on PC quite a time before they make it to console and do well, freaking WoW on its own. Then you have the digital distribution platforms, some of which are doing very well for themselves, these include; Stream, GamersGate, Direct2Drive, Impulse, GOG and then you have all the indie developers that set up their own websites. As for the indie games go some do make a lot of money, Minecaft alone has reached 1 million sales. Facebook games such as Farmville have a massive following and it makes money through micro payments.

It is not dying, it is further out of this imaginary grave than it has ever been, and this is considering we are just scraping out of a recession. It?s simply just not as big as the console market which is bloody huge.

Why is the price going from 50 to 60 such a big deal. Console gamers have been paying 60 - 70 for inferior versions (since they can't be modded) for quite some time. You PC gamers claim superiority yet complain because they have started to hike the price (while console gamers have already went through the same $10 price hike last year). All the while budgets to make AAA games have skyrocketed. It seems like the natural evolution not some sign PC gaming is dying.

there's some decent games coming out. BF3 despite being multiplayer platform is primarily made for PC. homefront is also got a specific team dedicated to the PC port
Yea.. Each game gets a team to port it to the PC, too bad it's just that. A port. And given the amount of bugs in BF:BC2, I really don't have high hopes for BF3 being any good. I mean, these are the people who can't even give a login server enough bandwidth to stop people dropping out. After Ubisoft did it. Ignorant is when you act stupid, stupid is when you do something like that _after_ it's already been done.
Difference is, Ubisoft took out the always on so some of their games are now playable on the PC. BF:BC2 hasn't and I'm still dropping out in the middle of games because their login server can't handle it.

No, PC gaming isn't dying, but companies are doing their best to make it happen.

Fortunately Shogun 2 is coming out this year, and Divine Wind should be hitting Steam.. This year I hopes.

$60? ...£37.67? Dude, over here expect to pay $70 for a brand new game. It wont kill PC gaming, it will just make people slightly more poor.
