I hate when people spoil game endings.

I was just watching Angry Joes top ten of 2012 video and as I looked at a couple of the comments, someone was having an exchange about Mass Effect 3 with a few people.

In a response to someone not liking it being on his list, this guy, without a spoiler warning (don't worry, I'm not going to spoil it) spoils the ending to Tell Tales The Walking Dead in a few words, so you don't know it's a spoiler until it's already read more or less. He does so in a weird comparison on the endings. It is a game I do own, I've just finished part three, this time of year leaves little room for playing games, but now I've lost the drive to finish it... Which sucks, since I was enjoying it.

I'm sure everyone has had this sort of thing happen, but when it pops up where you wouldn't expect it, it's especially frustrating.

Using spoiler tags, what are some of the most rage inducing or annoying spoilers you've experienced lately?

It's very rare that I accidentally spoil something for myself for if there is anything remotely about a game that I really want to play, I avoid it (or at least the comment section in your case here) at all costs.

Usually I intentionally ruin a game reading a spoiler and I later decide that I want to play it (at least until I realize that I just shot myself in the damn foot).

Bioshock 2
Red Dead Redemption
Heavy Rain (not the "who done it" but a lot of the...things you do in the game)

These are the few recent examples of games that I got the inkling to play but decided against it due to allowing it to get spoiled for me. Once the spoilers out there, I can't play the game anymore :(

Also, spoiling the ending to The Walking Dead game should be a capital offence! And not a nice capital offence either like lethal injection...I'm thinking drawn and quartered would be too kind.

I appreciate the sentiment, I made this thread just as a way to vent, rather then yelling at the top of my lungs about it to the nearest person.

I actually don't like hearing peoples opinions on endings and stories at all if I haven't seen it through to the end myself.

Hearing people go on about how terrible the ending of Assassins Creed 3 is even though they haven't actually spoiled it by going into details is just as irritating to me as my experience and expectations are going to be coloured by knowing this and I would honestly prefer if people just shut up altogether most of the time.

Now obviously if I'm really hung up about something I can always make the effort to remove myself from the internet and block out all opinions and information until I've finished a game myself but alot of the time unfortunately my willpower isn't that strong.

That was my opinion on the whole Mass Effect 3 thing, hearing it made me expect it, and that can be kind of annoying.

Youtube comments are bad for this.

Sometimes there will be spoilers in the comments that are completely unrelated to the video -_-
I have a rule, never look at youtube comments, just watch the video.

Fixed that for you.

Yeah, I don't like spoilers. If I do want them (e.g., I'm not going to play the game anyway), I can look them up but otherwise, no, I don't need them.

Damn, that sucks man. I know how you feel. I can't stand that crap either. RDR was spoiled for me in this very forum. When I was almost through it to boot. That was a couple years ago but it was frustrating. Having walking dead spoiled is just a douchebag thing to do because it is highly story driven. RDR sucked bad but I was still able to cuss under my breath as I played through it. I imagine that would be harder in you scenario. I think that everyone should use spoiler tags, warnings, or simply omit key info for at least 2-3 years after a games release. I avoid spoiling all games, even ones that are 10 years old or better. I don't know what people have played and what they want to play. The only time I talk about specifics are in threads dedicated to the idea that everyone in it has played and beat a game.

That sucks though man. Knowing someone is out there spoiling the walking dead makes me wanna hit them in the face. That's just common sense, not knowing what lies ahead - hell, fearing what lies ahead, uncertainty, doubt, hope - these are all the foundation of the story in a game driven primarily on the story. I wish I could say it doesn't matter much and while there is some minor credibility to that, it is merely a thin silver lining.

It irritates me that so many people on the internet who use spoiler tags on forums to prevent from spoiling (including many a member on this site) are so fucking horrible at doing so.

Step 1: State the name of whatever it is you are about to put in your spoiler tags
Step 2: Put said spoiler in spoiler tags
Step 3: There, was that so fucking hard?

So many people just put up tags without anything else. I've had Arkham City and both Infamous 2 endings spoiled for me on this site.
I've always hated that too, or how some people just put half the sentence under the spoiler tag so you may get a rough idea without seeing it anyway.

Oh yeah, my cousin spoiled Red Dead Redemption out of nowhere and I was pissed off, seriously, he knew I wanted to play it! Needless to say, I spoiled the ending to the Family Guy murder mystery (which he was looking forward to watching)
My brother spoiled Sixth Sense for me days after it came out and he knew I was going to see it, so I spoiled Fight Club a few months down the track, an eye for an eye.

SPOILER FOR THE WALKING DEAD GAME AHEAD
The bit I saw was that Lee dies, how much of the end is that, would you say that it is still worth playing through despite that?

Sorry, double post >_<

Oh my god I HATE it when people spoil the endings to stuff. I had Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2 spoiled for me so when Mass effect 3 came out I went on hiatus from the internet until I finished it which I'm glad I did because when I came back nobody was using spoiler tags anymore and the ending was EVERYWHERE. I feel bad for people who were slow to get that game because it must have been an uphill battle to not get the ending spoiled.

One time when I was reading the Gaunt's Ghosts novels I was checking TV Tropes because I went on TV Tropes all the time back then. I didn't know that new books were out so when I went on the TV Tropes page for Gaunt's Ghosts I got like so many spoilers for the next few books and I was PISSED. I know it was my fault but I dunno it still really ruined the experience for me.

I don't have that problem personally. I see people stat walking dead season 2 (the show) is worse than 1 and then when I got around to it couple weeks ago, I thought it was 10x better for very specific reasons. I disagree with many popular opinions on writing right now. Dark Knight Rises has terrible writing that is so contrived I could puke and it is completely full of itself. Green Lantern was a good movie (not great) that had some pacing problems. I could go on but that should give you a gist. Many people don't know why they like or dislike something and there isn't anything wrong with that. However, this is why other people's statements don't bother me much maybe. I know a few guys that after watching a movie/playing a game, they aren't sure what they think and it takes them time and multiple experiences with it to sort it out. I know other guys that will like or dislike something and can't tell you why. I am the only person I know who can walk out of a theatre/beat a game and know exactly why I did or didn't like it and can go on in detail about it on the spot regardless of popular opinion about it. I came out of DKR theatre mad that they wasted 3 hrs of my time on a Batman movie trying to be artistic when it wasn't. I came out complaining about scene after scene. Later that week I saw a review where a guy caught a couple retarded plot devices that I had even missed and trust me, my list was long.

However, the only person I have met in real life who thinks the movie is terrible is my brother. I work with a lot of guys who think it is a good movie, one of the best of last years movies somehow. They can't say why other than they just think it is good but they like it. Online I have to watch people knock Green Lantern like it is some disgrace and hold DKR up on some ridiculous pedestal and that makes zero sense from a literary standpoint. Now, if you look at it from the standpoint that mob mentality grants Nolan a free pass it makes perfect sense.

My point is, don't let others taint your views based on what they liked or thought about it. Most of the time they have no clue what they are talking about anyways. That may be a dickhead way to see it, but it isn't fabricated. Some people may raise good points, but validate those with your own perspective and not the other way around. If others talking crap on a game you haven't played taints your perception, it means you are seeking validation through their perception.

It depends on what your reason is. I mean, experiencing the game could be a reason, experiencing how your choices compare to the community could be another. If your reason is for story purposes alone, probably not. Sorry man, I mean the characters are pretty good in the game but I think the story shines the best through its premise which I don't want to say what that is to avoid spoilers. However you probably have a good idea. I will say this though, I think it is easy to see Clementine represents innocence and Lee represents atonement. I don't know if I want to say more as there are nuggets worth seeing and experiencing in the game. However, realistically, the jewel itself was robbed from you, so to speak. You can probably guess the connection with the spoiler but how it connected is still up for grabs. It's little nuggets like that that are still preserved for you. It is told rather well, so you have that. Ultimately, it depends on what you are looking for out of the game. I say that it is still a good story but it ends on a powerful note that is heavily supported by the players "sudden" reaction to what was spoiled for you. That is why I see it in such bad form to spoil that that key info for anyone.

If you can, play through as if you don't know. make all choices as if that is a "possibility" and not a constant. That may salvage it a little. That one thing isn't all the game has to offer, I assure you. It just an really low blow.

Yeah, please message me. I would be interested to know. Plus we can compare notes on our playthroughs.

I had Bioshock spoiled for me before I played it. I still really loved the game and played through it in one sitting but I still feel like I didn't get the most out of the experience since I already knew the truth about Atlas.
So not only did I miss the 'holy crap plot twist' feeling, it just made the whole plot in general less exciting even though it was still very good.
Luckily I avoided spoilers for the second game even though that didn't have any huge plot twists.
