I'm confused with what you're trying to tell me here? If other people have a different opinion than I do and I'm aware of it then I can't help but have my opinion altered by them?
So if I get around to finishing this game and end up loving it, it won't be because it what I honestly believe but just because I want to spite all those people who said it was terrible or something..?
I'm sorry but I don't understand, I was just talking about something which annoyed me.
You claimed earlier that if someone said a game you hadn't finished yet was terrible it would "colour" your perception. Unless you are going into the game thinking that is an absolute impossibility then I don't see how that could colour it. Do you think it impossible for AC3 to be bad? Do you think it impossible that someone may think it is terrible despite it being good to you? Do you think it impossible for them to be wrong? I wouldn't think so, so why is it annoying to you and how does it colour you experience. Why feel the need to defend the title to them? Especially if you haven't completed it yet? I am just pointing out that the opinions of others shouldn't have any bearing on your experience, especially if it is as simple an opinion of "It did or didn't suck". Do you also get upset if someone says "It's wonderful" or is it only if they are talking down on it?
I got Walking Dead spoiled for me since some person on Tumblr couldnt tag her shit. Unfollowed her ever since. Bioshock is... almost spoiled? I have a general feeling what the plot twist is supposed to be. Let's hope I'm wrong.
Good thing that nothing about Portal 2 got spoiled for me, since the plot was incredibly good and very satisfying to watch it unfold.
Oh my God, that reminds me of when I was watching a portal 2 trailer 2 days before it came out and a guy in the comments said the whole plot twist and how it was resolved for no apperant reason.
Spoiling something is a heinous sin for me because I will never be able to be unspoiled. It won't heal over time and it dampens the experience I could have had. I have had Bioshock and Kotor spoiled for me and while the former was still a great experience, the kick to the head wasn't as surprising. If someone casually spoils something for someone, I won't think very highly of them.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that game endings have never impressed me that much. Actually, I still think story-telling in games in general right now is a work in progress. So likewise, spoilers don't bother me.
If you can, play through as if you don't know. make all choices as if that is a "possibility" and not a constant. That may salvage it a little. That one thing isn't all the game has to offer, I assure you. It just an really low blow.
Okay, I may give it a shot tonight then, after all. It was just that one thing spoiled, thanks. I think I will message ya to let you know what I think, and probably to thank you. Just in case, here's a thanks in advance. Thanks
There are definitely events you will see and depending on your prior behaviour choices you may get that affect the impact of that particular spoiler. Whatever there are things that happen you'll want to see even with that knowledge.
Lucky for me, I already knew all that stuff. Why the need to do that, without listing what was under the tag. Hopefully no one looked at it, because it spoils a few games, some new, some old.
It irritates me that so many people on the internet who use spoiler tags on forums to prevent from spoiling (including many a member on this site) are so fucking horrible at doing so.
Step 1: State the name of whatever it is you are about to put in your spoiler tags
Step 2: Put said spoiler in spoiler tags
Step 3: There, was that so fucking hard?
So many people just put up tags without anything else. I've had Arkham City and both Infamous 2 endings spoiled for me on this site.
I think the point is that people are bothered about different things being spoiled for them, so it's helpful to give some idea what the tags are hiding. If a thread is about a game I've already finished, I'll happily click on any unlabelled spoiler tags, because I assume they'll be about the game. It's a bit disappointing if they turn out to be about a completely different game/film/book that I haven't yet finished.
I agree that the safer option is never to click on unlabelled spoiler tags, because you have no way of knowing for certain what the contents is (beyond that it's probably a spoiler for something).
Rosebud is the sled. Darth Vader is Luke's father. The Planet of the Apes is Earth. Soylent Green is people. Dumbledore dies.
I don't mind so much. It's vary rare that I find a game that I don't guess the ending for. Like MGS4 ending or Infamous ending, they where both foreshadowed so much, I don't know how you could be surprised.

They're called spoiler tags for a reason though. If you click on one then you've pretty much given up your right to complain when something is spoiled for you
Look at it this way. There's a red button with a sign saying "Press at your own peril".I decide to press it anyway and a boxing glove on a spring punches me in the face.If I complained most people would call me an idiot because I was given fair warning.A spoiler tag is the equivalent. It's warning you that you may not like the contents so if you decide to go ahead and click on it anyway then it's your own fault when it spoils something for you
Given the uproar of the ME3 ending, I had to watch it on youtube. Then I had to go spoil it for one of my co-workers. He never played ME1, and was likely never going to play ME3 as he hated the gameplay of ME2. A die-hard WoW player,...
Anyway, I agreed, the original ending was crap. I just played the game last week, to see if the game actually justified the ending. The game was good, until that crappy ending. I may have liked it better, having been warned about certain choices. Still it doesn't make sense in context.
Apparently, the ending is justified with DLC. Without that DLC, you have one hint during ME3, and the great McGuffin is introduced. I still think that somebody must have been smoking something when they came up with the ending.

Rosebud is a classic, but one I've never seen. Probably is slowly being forgotten.
Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, that is one of the most well known spoilers ever. I'll let this one pass.
The Planet of the Apes: Well, pretty obvious, especially if you watched the most recent ones first. Still not a very popular movie.
Soylent Green. Another of the most well known spoilers. I have never seen the movie, but it was spoiled years ago. I'll let others experience the horror of having this movie spoiled for them.
Harry Potter #? Whichever movie this is, I haven't seen it, but was going to. Thanks a lot,...
What I hate it going on the internet, searching something unrelated and getting massive spoilers. It sucks.
I was trying to see wtf was up with the bosses because I couldn't do jack crap to the first boss. One of the search results showed that apparently Faize gets replaced with Arumat later in the game and I was greatly upset because Faize is my favorite character. Google can screw itself sometimes. .-.
What about those of us that had never played another Halo after Halo: CE. I first played Halo: Reach at my brother's house. I still haven't finished the game, so thanks alot.
Nothing is ever spoiled for me. I don't play games for a surprise ending. I play them for the whole process, so knowing how they end does nothing to diminish my enjoyment along the way.
I don't really care about spoilers. I won't actively look up ones to games/movies/books that I'm interested in, but I don't mind if I stumble across discussion about it, because to me, just reading about it is nowhere near as exhilarating as experiencing it for yourself.

Hmm, okay we were talking about spoilers and the incidents where people claim something is terrible but can't give specific examples why because they don't wish to give spoilers, and yes that DOES annoy me!
Of course it's not impossible that that a given game could be bad or that another person could see a problem where I didn't but it still annoys me to listen to someone criticise something when I don't have all the facts availiable in order to argue the point OR even agree if I should feel that they have a good point.
Like I said in my original post, it would certainly be much better if I could just ignore or avoid these opinions I don't like hearing but I just can't help how I feel and these things do get under my skin sometimes.
I honestly think I'm giving this issue more consideration than is necessary actually, as soon as I've finished this game for myself then the opinions of others are going to occupy less and less space in my mind and cease to bother me anymore.

If it's a comment on an article or video about something like a new best-selling author or news about some rich person who went crazy and stapled bills to his forehead, then I'll question the sanity of somebody who brings up the Mass Effect 3 ending, but it's never really bothered me enough to get angry about it.
Spec Ops: The Line was spoiled for me multiple times (at least twice by my own volition), but that didn't impact how much I enjoyed the game when I played it.
