Not really a "plan", just a basic idea of "grab a melee weapon, stuff a backpack full of non-perishable food and head for high ground." The real debate is wether I should take the pickax or the sword. I worry that my unskilled hands wouldn't be able to use the actual weapon very effectively whereas swinging a pick is much simpler.

Go for an actually axe for swinging around. That way, as you fight the zombie horde, you can sing the lumberjack song. Or something like that.

Believe it or not I have put thought into this scenario. I would squad up with some of my buddies and we would make base camp at the retirement home where we work. It's secluded, big, long hallways, plenty of food, large open spaces, multi floored, the ideal HQ. In the squad I would be heavy weapons guy.
