I have had it with Valve

Valve is one of the only companies that I truly respect.
They don't constantly try to scam users out of their money, and they respect each of their games and playerbases.
I mean, look at the guy that made Garry's Mod (Garry?). He was hired by Valve, because he was good at what he did and deserved to make money doing it.
Once Portal 2 was announced, they let people download the original Portal for free off of steam.
Fine, steam isn't the best program. People constantly have gripes with it and complain on and on (I mean, I still haven't had one issue honestly) but that doesn't mean that Valve is bad at what they do.
Look at Alien Swarm, free to play complete game. Not some small packaged little "gift" for us to enjoy for five minutes. It was an awesome game that can be fully modded which I still play today.
Their source engine still looks good, and I'm not saying I could play on it forever but I still don't have gripes with it. They're going to have to update it eventually, but I'm highly anticipating Portal 2. Who here had any issues with the original Portal? Sure, you'll try to answer that question with something you didn't like, but the Pros outweight the Cons, and the puzzles and challange modes keep you playing for a long time.
All in all, I support Valve all the way, and have been a follower ever since I played the original Half Life...

I have no clue who they are, but you, sir, made me laugh.

It's the popular developers that get picked on the most I guess. Statistically, they have a larger sample of fans that could turn against them. I wouldn't call the OP a fan, but you know what I mean.

Wow, talk about childish whining, I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, but comments like 'they were done with ep 3 a long time ago, Gabe just ate it' makes you seem petty and immature.

Are you that big of a graphics whore that you can't stand the Source engine, despite the fact that they update it constantly with each new game? Apparently you can ignore the fact that Valve actually treats their audience with a bit of respect for the sake of 'better graphics'. I'd rather have a company that actually treated their fans decently with an outdated engine instead of an activision-esque publication machine that has modern engines but treats you like you're a wallet with legs.

Portal 2 is more of the same? The TC obviously hasn't watched any of the gameplay videos or is being a troll.

And the same engine? Sure it's still Source but the videos of Portal 2 look gorgeous. Dat lighting...

I'm looking forward to Episode 3 as much as the next person and it sucks to wait this long, but at least Valve doesn't release crappy games (I think L4D is overrated but it's still enjoyable) or show off games that aren't ready for primetime.

Like if 10% of the 10,000 fans of a small company get pissed off, that's just 1,000 people, but if 10% of the 1,000,000,000 fans of a large fanbase get pissed off they make much more of a commotion...

"Waaah Valve aren't releasing the games I want fast enough *throws toys out of pram*"

Seriously I'm sick of hearing people like you, If I worked for Valve I'd ban you from Steam so you couldn't play any of their games anyway.

Believe it or not Valve don't work for you, they can spend as long as they want making games.
What do you think they're doing all day in their offices? Just browsing forums and playing games? No, they're working hard on their games to make sure every last bit is as good as their skills allow, trying out new ideas and supporting their old games as well.

If they really wanted they could drop the games they're working on and just rake in money from Steam, they'd be the one's laughing and there's bugger all you can do about it. So I think you should stop being so impatient and appreciate the work that they're doing.

Go ahead and leave. As a certain synthetic fella said, "We are Legion, we are many". For every Valve hater and person "fed up"with Valve. Many more will discover the awesomeness of their games and realize that greatness can't be rushed. So go enjoy yearly, innovative COD games, or Halo: Little stocky aliens edition.

Valve is sneaky, if you think about it. By delaying Ep.3 they're just hyping up the masses for when they'll eventually release it, and that's when loads of people will become rabidly crazy with buying the game. It reminds me of what Blizz did with Starcraft 2.

Actually, EDI said "My name is Legion, for we are many" to the "synthetic fella", and it was originally a biblical quote.

Also I'm fed up with the attitude that games have to be innovative to be good fun. Innovation can help (just look at Homeworld), but usually, the formula is there for a reason - it works. That said, I'm not a CoD person myself.

well, the source engine is not outdated in the slightest, its very easy to modify and it was one of the first users of HDR. Console junkies just want everything with no consideration of limitations.
Portal 2 will be amazing and you will still buy it regardless if you have to wait a long time.
ep. 3 will also be amazing, because valve is sort of like billy talent or radiohead, they take a long time to make a new game (or album) but when its out, its amazing and people will still buy it.
Valva has never made a bad game.
this guy whos complaining is probably a console gamer, TF2 for console suxxxx

I'm sorry, but your complaints make no sense.
First of all, the Source engine is fine. It is totally fine to use the same engine, with amazing physics, mind you, while upgrading the graphics. Have you seen the updates between HL2 and their newer games? Besides the engine isn't everything. Did you know that Twilight Princess was using the Wind Waker engine? Same engine, extremely different graphical styles and games.
I used to feel the same way about their long development times, until I started listening to their developer commentary. Go through some of their games with the commentary on, and you'll see that they do an insane amount of playtesting. They don't hesitate to fix problems in the game, and don't ship them out until they're totally perfect. Sure, it might take them a lot longer, but at least their games are worth playing.
They're the complete opposite of a lazy company, and your arguments really don't hold any water.

Are you just annoyed that they haven't made HL3? Because everything they make is amazing. So what if they haven't had a new engine for a decade, this one works so there's no need to change it.

Sucessful troll is sucessful :/

If Valve are annoing you so much, why not try other games insted of nerd raging about how Valve are doing what all succesful business do? Seriously, you have no real solid ground to base your complaints off, Valve dont need to release a new series every 5secs because the majority of there fan base seem happy with what they have made and they have a strong community backing which makes new content themselves (PC anyway). Dude, just deep breath, get some different games and chill out while Valve do their jorbs :p

Due to the nature of you posting this on this forum, about 60-90% of people will disagree.
But I agree with you.

So... many... Valve fanboys... in this thread.

I love the idea that if you don't really enjoy Valve games, you must be a retard that plays CoD all day. There's a thing called opinion and preference.

And why are people defending Valve so much? You realize that they're just as much a company after your money as Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc? Why is it ok for them to delay games day after day but whenever another company does it, people scream and cry?

I agree with the TC somewhat. Valve is not original when it comes to game design. They release one game once in a blue moon that is extremely simple to play, shallow, and usually just amounts to a well made Half-Life mod. I don't like Valve multiplayer games for this reason. They're too dumbed down for me. I'd much rather play Battlefield, or even CoD. At least those games have some variety to them.

However, Half-Life 2 and Portal are two of the best games I've ever played. That's because of the story of both, and also the portal mechanics in Portal.

And here we have a prime example of a Valve fanboy:

Why is this ok, but CoD or console fanboys aren't? They're the same, annoying thing, except Valve fanboys have this smug, elitist attitude about it.

Took a whole lot of words right out of my mouth there (except the bit about HL2, I found that game mediocre from what I played of it). Hypocrisy is the order of the day with Valve fanboyism, so many times - as is elitism and a superiority complex.

When Activision publish a new CoD game every year, they get derided. When Valve stop publishing a new Half-Life 2 episode every year, people complain. When Bungie releases a new Halo every 3 years, people say they're milking the franchise and releasing the games too often. When it takes 3 years for Valve to make Half-Life 3, people whine about how it's taking too long.

You may have guessed, my opinion of Valve's fanbase is exceedingly low right now, and has been since I joined these forums to be honest. There are plenty of reasonable people here, and I like to discuss things with these people, but there are also a whole bunch of Valve (and Bioware) fanboys who can ruin people's days.

All that said, the OP did come across as very whiny and ungrateful, and not a little troll-ish.
