I have 192 hours playing, and I've just about had it with the game. I'm not sure where my unhappiness lies, whether it's other players, having played just about all of the maps, not really wanting to deal with hacks and crap of various kinds, but somehow, over the last several days, I've just gotten sick of it. I had loved playing at first, and I've racked up a good number of hours playing, but every time I look for a server, my stomach turns a bit, my heart drops, and I feel like I simply won't have any fun. Probably it's having played nearly 200 hours of it, but regardless of the cause my heart isn't in it any more. My stats have dropped noticeably in the last week or two...I feel like I'm losing a friend, or something like that. Somehow I think it has ended...oh well.

I know how you feel. Personally, I believe the feeling you're describing is due to the fact that Team Fortress 2 is based on an outdated design template;

Small Arena + Teams - Cover System - Vehicles = Fun Arcade Gameplay

Problem is, that design can only be used so much before it becomes boring.

I'm not all that fond of vehicles in FPS gameplay, I certainly don't think the lack of it detracts. And teams I think is a great thing. Small maps are sort of necessary without transport, but I think vehicles often make a mess of game balance and am not too fond of them.

That's why I'm only playing on cracked servers for now. If I'll still stick to it after a month then yeah I'll buy it.

Just buy it. He spent 192 hours before he got bored.

It's worth it.

That's more or less my feeling...but he may not enjoy the game as much as I did. It's eight whole days of gameplay...That paid for the Orange Box, easily.

Everything in moderation.
That might literally be the issue. I haven't written off the possibility of going back to it later, but it may have been too much. I really enjoyed it, I really did.

You've just played to much of it. You burned yourself out. What I do is just play many different games, and do non-game related stuff like going to friends and junk, just pace yourself with it and it usually doesn't feel so empty.

Aye, my advice is no different from the others: take a break and come back to it later, and when you do, take it in small amounts.

It's not the repetition alone- it's the repetition being condensed into a small window of time. Allow yourself other experiences to mix in and each one won't seem bland.

I think I fell into the same problem you have. I got the Orange Box the night it came out, got TF2, had a blast for a few days playing it hours on end, then dropped it like a dead limb. Course it could be that I was looking for something that replaced my Halo 3 cravings...

I played it shed loads when it first came out, then not at all when COD4 was released. Just recently I've started having the odd game again - hardly anyone in my clan has it, so there isn't a whole lot of incentive to have a real session, but the occasional game is pretty fun. Although it's scary how much I've fallen off the pace. Has it really been so long?

I played Team Fortress 2 almost daily since its release. but after a while the whole wore off a bit. I haven't stopped playing it completly though. A hour or two now and then, is plenty of fun.

I can only play on weekends, and I play it interspersed with CoD4, Psychonauts, Max Payne, and GTA. (Guess who likes Steam discounts?)

It happens to all games. I got bored of playing Fallout 1 and 2 sometimes. I started to grow weary of Mass Effect so before grwoing tired of it I put it off for a bit so that in a week or so I'll be up and ready to start playing again.

So you feel somehow entitled to steal someone else's livelihood for your own convenience.

Nice.

You'll have to excuse my saying so but I find that attitude contemptible. There's probably a bit more I could say, but you are effectively contributing to the theft of, as werepossum put it, the livelihood of hardworking individuals.
