So for the past couple of weeks I've been quite enthralled with Friendship is Magic, the new My Little Pony series. I'm really, genuinely enjoying the show but I've been noticing a lot of people calling people (specifically 20 to 30-year-old men) who watch the show "gay" for doing so.

Why?

The show is amazingly well written (especially for a My Little Pony series), beautiful visually (seriously, this show is probably the best use of Flash outside of The Secret of Kells), and has great depth in its characters. It's exactly what most people ask for when they say they want good cartoons.

So why are people so virulent against a well-written, well-animated, funny and enjoyable My Little Pony series but praise (and I'm pulling out a completely random name here) the god-awful Transformers movies?

Why?
I was gonna ask what they thought anyways you're not alone 4chan like them
there are also guys who like lucky star and azumanga diaoh (different age groups but same gender group) but does no one really bats an eye brow over that
in essence you're just caught in a double standard

That's why.

that.......actually makes me want to start watching it more regularly.

I guess mainly it has to do with the show being aimed at children, but being animated by Lauren Faust who also did PPG and Fosters Home, so naturally, or more like "probably", fans of those series would of course watched a few episodes.

I dont really know why I watch the rare episode [when channel surfing.............when I actually get off the computer..............], maybe its easy to get caught up in?

it is for kids but at the same time is able be enjoyed by adults too?

maybe MLP:FIM is bad-ass because it has PONIES..........

[small]ponies are The Escapist's un/official mascot you know*[/small]

[small]note: Kittens have a close running too, with the Dance Dance Kitty Revolution badges and stuff.[/small]
I have to be honest, that animation is fucking great and I had no fucking idea the animator for PPG and Fosters was working on this. I guess MAYBE that's one of the reasons /co/ goes apeshit over it? It may be My Little Pony but 'damn' there is a good bit of quality animation in Flash there. Not the 'cutting corners' quality you see from fucking Teletoon and their shitty series... I'm looking at YOU Johnny Test, Total Drama and related shitty shows with the same voice actors.

But pretty animation a show doesn't make and chances are, I wouldn't be interested.

However, if The Hub picks up the first and second season of Wakfu, then I will totally start watching that channel.

All I know is, the purple one looks like Stocking (my avatar)
Yeah, the animation from what I can tell is very similar to Panty and Stocking's style. I am not sure if that should just be interesting or profoundly creepy given the crap that goes on in Panty and Stocking.

I kind of in a similar situation as you well sort of.
I remember going to Lauren Faust deviantart page when she announce she created that show and I just though the images had an excellent animation style. Some time later I saw a bit of it (a few second) and I just dismiss it. Weeks ago some made "Who is your favourite pony" thread and I click link the link to the first episode. My mind was blown away!!!
Seriously its addicted to me to the point that I'm re-watching past episodes waiting for the new one to be out (I only re-watch my favourite anime but months later after I watch it). I do agree with you with the quality side to the show which I applause it compare to show these say (epically the moral lessons to it since it suppose to aim toward little girls). While it true that the target audience of the show is intend to be for little girls but again Fairy OddParents became popular due to people of all ages watching it (the target audience were intended for kids) and Bargain Hunt was popular due to teenagers watching it.
I suppose if you want to justify to watching this show is that did you know that original My Little Pony toys were initial made for boys? The creator made a toy horse for his son but he didn't like it so he made the head bigger etc and that how we got my little pony today (It was in "100 Greatest Toys with Jonathan Ross" and it was rank 59).
I been wanted to tell my best mate about the show but I'm sort of being in the closet about it. My mate isn't exactly manly man and we watch similar cartoons and shows etc. None the less he did act WTF (he not into anime) when I show him the Panty and Stocking and Scanty and Kneesock transformation scene (From the anime Panty and Stocking). He didn't exactly went weird on me since he did took it in nicely once I explain what it is about (he just say it provocative).

Why wouldnt you enjoy it? Its made by the guy that made Fosters home for Imaginery Friends.

I think of it like Yo Gaba-Gaba, its a show that technically oriented for children but still has enough complexity for it to be enjoyed by the adult or older siblings that have to take care of the children.

Is that a cosplay of Stocking? I haven't actually see Panty And Stocking, but she looks very close.

My friends, I too am loving the crap out of this show. It's got fantastic animation, sure, but it's also very well written, genuinely funny, and has a diverse cast of well defined characters. Characters who are a fair bit deeper than what I'm used to, as well. They all have their own strengths and flaws, and I love them all. I also cannot deny that it's adorable, and I enjoy it for that reason, too.

As for the OP, I'm afraid that those fellows calling you gay are suffering from their Inner Frat-Boy. That's the little voice inside your head that says prejudicial things like, "Neotenous multi-hued sapient female horses? That's gay and anyone who thinks otherwise is gay." So I'd say that you're not wierd for liking this show, your wierd for having the depth of character to overcome such deeply ingrained prejudices, because this is the first little girls' show I've ever heard of being good myself. My friend, that's probably the best kind of wierd you can have.

Not quite; it's made by his wife, Lauren Faust. She worked as a writer and animator for Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends and the Powerpuff Girls for many years, though. Cool, huh? It's like, everything is connected.

Actually, I really have to question why people hate My Little Pony because it has "ponies and rainbows and shit" but have no problem playing Robot Unicorn Attack and stuff like that?
I will answer that question for you. MLP does not have Erasure. How could you not grasp that concept?

Nice. I personally prefer purple eyes to green, but both are dead sexy.
And I'm heading off too. how convenient...

Always surprised when things that should suck, manage to NOT suck. And I'm never ashamed of it, either.
