Hello Escapists! I registered on recommendation from a friend who wishes to remain nameless for his own reasons. So I thought I'd give this forum a try.

Now, anyone who knows me know's I like music. A LOT. However, I'm also the kind of person who when sat next to someone who's listening to, oh I don't know... Hard Core death metal or something, theres me listening to Michael Bulbé - Me & Mrs. Jones.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of that music too on the odd occasion, but I'm preferable of the classics or modern inturpreations... Well... As long as they don't butcher the classics.

Is there anyone else who's like that?

i do.
I like his song "Everything".
It's quite catchy.
My favorite band though is The BareNaked Ladies.
EDIT: Oh, and um...once you get to know the community a bit more, you'll realize that everybody listens to stuff no one else does. Really really really obscure stuff......

I don't think I understand your question. I really like Leonard Cohen, does he count?

I love his sense of humour. If you've seen "An Audience with Michael Bublé that was on TV recent on BBC, you'll know what I'm talking about. He's better live then actually recorded.

Glad to know I'm not just an outcast. :p

As long as you're not a hipster. Hahahaha. Oh.. I hate those guys.

I suppose I'm more into progressive rock and folk. Hadn't even heard of this Michael Buble fellow until he appeared on the Colbert Report. I don't hate his music, but I wouldn't buy it. I like to think I can listen to anything except rap. Hell, I can even do some rap. Like that song at the beginning of The Boondocks? Maybe that's hip hop, I don't even know.

Are you looking for suggestions, or just people of a like mind?

If I understand your topic I enjoy modern metal a lot. But older metal and hard rock bands just do it for me. Van Halen, ACDC, Metallica they just strike a chord with me.

I can never turn down Metallica or ACDC, the modern music can't hold a candle to that, I mean half of it's just noise.

Well I am very different to you in so far as I barely listen to any music - just the way I am. When I do listen to music there is always one artist I turn to (apart from artists everyone agrees are brilliant) - Delta Goodrem.

Her music is as beautiful as she is and yet, here in the UK atleast she is either unheard of, or not regarded well.

It's not to everyone's taste but here is a taster:

She does other more upbeat stuff but this is one of her best songs, to me anyway.

OP: Please explain what you mean more clearly.

I don't get what you are trying to say. The title "I listen to music nobody else listens to..."
doesn't seem to translate well with what you say in your actual post.
To be fair, the title's more of an eyecatcher then anything else. It may not have much relevance to the OP, however the connection between them is still quite logical. (I apologise if this goes against the Terms and Conditions of Forum Posting. I'm new, so I'm not quite fluent in the forum rules between this website and others I've joined.

I give you some credit for saying 'a lot' instead of 'allot', but seriously, Michael Bulbé - Me & Mrs. Jones, is what you call classic? I might be ignorant on your tastes, but I fail to see what your point is.
Not at all, I don't. I call it modernisation of the classic itself, I do however enjoy the classic in which Michael Bublé covered. However I don't blame you for accusing me of my ignorance.

You mean that these two things you say are not normal, and want to know what the rest of us feel are not normal as far as musical taste goes?

I don't want to sound like an ass (but I already did), but is this the point of your thread?
My overall point is. I seem to be, in my mind, the only one that has this sort of taste in music and the only one who deviates from the normality of the "Modern Rock" of whatever it is that people listen to today. I was hoping someone could make me feel less like an outcast.

I tip my hat to you in adoration of your taste.

The latter, this is really more to make me seem less like a musical outcast when it comes to taste.

I don't see the point of this thread. Is he bitching about modern metal?

Old metal was shallow wankery. The bands that are still farting around now are the ones whose sound never evolved because they loved the fame too much.
Case in point: Metallica and ACDC.

Michael Buble is equally as meaningless and boring, although in a far less irritating way.

In answer to your question: Yes, lots of people are like you.

Well I am the only person out of all my friends/family/colleagues/acquaintances who listens to Industrial, EBM, Synthpop, FuturePop and Darkwave. Most of them either like Rock/Metal variations or RnB, Hip Hop and similar stuff.
