The ought to take a page out of AssCreed's book.

That game had bitchin' mace animations.
That it did. Assassins Creed is the king when it comes to close combat animations.

If you ask me, you can't really complain since it took them 14 months to bring out this game.
Well we can complain that they brought it out in 14 months, rather than spending longer and putting more effort into it. If they had taken their time, not rushed it out and released it this Christmas time, it could have been a contender for GOTY.

I am a fan of the game, don't get me wrong, but I have no doubt that I will like Portal 2, Gears of War 3 and Mass Effect 3 a lot more.

Damn. I totally thought this was going to be a thread about using pepper spray on a dragon.
As did I, the truth makes much more sense, but is much less interesting.

Combat/animations were never the focus of RPG games so they tend to suck, I guess now with the whole casual march they could eventually end up at a true hack&slash animation quality, but that only means other aspects will suffer further.

Something I didn't address is that blunt weapons in both games seem to suffer from an inferiority complex.
There is no inheret advantage to using them.
All the best weapons (for warriors) are swords. None of the other classes benefit from using a mace either.
The animations are bugging me because its immersion breaking, you don't have to change too much, just don't let them stab with a mace.
Why can't I knock them over and then crush their skulls with my glorious hunk of steel?

Blunt weapons, as a whole, are just plain looked over in DA:O and DA2. They say they don't plan to implement pole arms, but why the hell do they have blunt weapons at all when they're simply not good enough to use? The fact that they don't have any defining animations signals to me that at some point someone somewhere went
"Well fuck it. They're implemented enough to give the illusion of variety."
