I like to think of myself as a reasonable individual. Sure I have a tendancy to argue with people in other countries over which fictional character in a given entertainment product is 'better' and I have a mousepad that cost more than the average user's mouse but by and large, taking into account my hobbies and upbringing, I'm generally pretty stable.

But every now and again I find myself, usually because of a set of improbable circumstances, doing something utterly retarded.

A week or so ago my 360 went all Anakin Skywalker on me and starting giving me shit every time I turned it on. This didn't bother me at first because there was nothing coming out that month with the exception of Tales of Vesperia which I honestly couldn't give a flying shit about. But earlier, with a few big games on the horizon, I found myself in desperate need of an 360 and so I took the liberty of attempting to fix my hulking white box.

Each step I've tried seemed reasonable at the time but now I stop for a moment (for a Biscotti, aren't I totally cool?) I realize that I am, unfortunately, entirely fucking retarded. Behold my xbox 360.

Yes it is turned on.

Does anyone else have any ridiculous contraption fixing stories?

Actually, I'm rather good at fixing contraptions. I fixed both my GBA and my PS1 (the PS1 was really old, and I needed to fix it seven times).

The problem isn't overheating. I've fixed that by removing the x clamps and screwing the heatsink into place. What's happened is the overheating has caused solder to shift around the gpu. I'm overheating, while applying preasure to the heatsink (because the board warps when it gets hot) so the thing will resolder itself.
