Runes of Magic, definatly beginner friendly, but has TONS of controls and can be a little confusing at the very beginning. But after that is full-on fun, and you don't get your immersion "broken" by someone named Mister McPorkyPants running around you.
However, it may be a little hard on your laptop but you can get the 3GB regular download instead of the 7GB HD download. I've had tons of fun with it, but the problem is that the awesome trinkets are paid (real money).

Capctha: used echamem

"Life_Is_A_Mess used echamem! The oponnent is now confused!"

I've played a lot, most are just wow with either an anime style and/or no budget. I still have a relatively active character in Vidictus and I've really enjoyed the style that game gives. It's less a standard mmo and more close to a spectacle fighter as Yahtzee describes the fighting style. And similar to that, the areas where you fight enemies are very similar levels in that there's a specific area, you select it from a menu of sorts, wait for people or jump right in and then you're running through one instance of that area. When you beat the boss you get transported back to town and can jump right back in or bum around town and talk to NPCs.

The combat can get complicated though, as a slow or jerky internet connection can have you run up to an enemy start swinging to realize you lagged and he jumped away some time ago. Still, I've had fun with it. Combat flows and most areas are good or easier with others but not so overbearing that you couldn't do a solo run.

... when I started writing I wasn't trying to make a short review. I guess I like the game more than I thought.

The system requirements for that game are pretty high for an MMO, IMO

My computer has trouble running it so if he is worried about sys requirements ABP should be avoided.

DDO is my recommendation

Dungeons and Dragons Online by far and it´s free
No, no it isn't. See comments on LotRO above. Oh yeah, and it's pretty much a party-only game. It is NOT solo friendly unless you've got several high level toons involved in raiding already and can gear up a specially designed twinked-out solo alt.
It being a partybased game doesn´t have to be that bad a thing, it actually is one of the main reasons I play the game, though I have to agree with you on the whole free thing, it sucks.
Well, the problem with a party-based game like that (I'm EU) is that Codemasters are rubbish. Turbine isn't that much better, but Codemasters are really rubbish. So if you want to play DDO as an EU person, you're still strongly recommended to go on the American servers with Turbine... but for a party game, that isn't great either, because EU prime-time is the middle of the US workday, so it's really hard to find people to play with. That was my experience anyway, which is why I'm no longer playing, or subscribed to, DDO.

You could try Adventure Quest, AQ worlds, DragonFable or Mech Quest. They're all 2D with modifiyable graphics, but they are also repetitive and rather boring after a while. I would stick with Runescape to be honest, it's the best F2P MMO out there for a reason, it doesn't stick to the mould that most MMO's do and it is rather user friendly.
i have tried all those listed. didn't like them
Can't blame you. AQ Worlds is the MMO formula at it's worst.

I to would most definitely recommend going on the US servers, as well. Mainly because the EU servers on longer exist. Turbine took full control over international DDO late last year.

That and soloing has become much easier then it once was. While groups are still best an talented soloist can thrive in most content.

Maplestory.

excuse me while i go try out maple story
Don't get sucked into that, it seems really fun at first, but past level 20 or so you have 180 levels of pure, hardcore grind grind grind, trust me no other game matches maplestorys level of grind!

I would recommend... well I have played almost all of the ones suggested here, but not in a long time, but most if not all of them were fun so you can't go wrong (except maplestory, grind grind grind -_________________- )

I was about to say DDO, but...yea, you guys are right, it's a ripoff since they made it free to play. No, it's not easy on soloers, but finding a party is easy, and the user base is MUCH friendlier than that of, say, WoW. Then again, what user base isn't friendlier than wow's?

ProgressQuest is the best game EVAR!
Progress Quest is a tad too difficult for new comers though.
Sure it may have the difficulty curve of EVE online but after surpassing that curve, it's simply awesome.

Proof? Don't fret! http://progressquest.com/testimonials.php
Ghanni the Demicanadian Voodoo Princess is pretty badass though.

I love my character that i'd be running for well over a year at my last job though sadly T_T.

EchoBazaar and Billy VS SNAKEMAN are both decent browser games. BvS is all about the anime parody though, so it may not be your cup of tea.

Be the Ultimate Ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today!

If you try echo bazaar, follow Schadrach on Twitter and I'll send you a "gift" (maybe, if I has one left after way too many people suddenly follow me =p).. =)

Heres on thats cheap and is actually really good to control and has many different outcomes its called REAL LIFE.

Just joking im not that anti-nerd and hipsterish. OT I would reccomend LOTR online its actually really good and gives you lots of play time before you have to start paying to play but even then its quite cheap

Vindictus
Grindy grindy grindfest.

Age of Conan Unrated is coming soon, F2P. AoC in it's current state is probably the second best MMO quality-wise after Rift right now, that it's going free to play soon should not be dismissed. It was shit at launch, but right now it's one of the very best.
lmao, grind feast? really, what level you get to

and AoC is boring, dull to look at, and the only bright spot about it (melee combat) Vindictus dose 20 times better

moral of the story Vindictus IS free and worth playing, AoC >.> only if your into Conan i say
Here is Vindictus for you:

Grind the same dungeon 900 times until you unlock dungeon 2.
Grind that dungeon 1800 times until you unlock the next
Grind that one 3600 times, etc, ad nauseam.
Then what? There's nothing to do. Nothing.

Age of Conan has triple-A content, 4 Tiers of raids, 7 Raids in total. How many does Vindictus have OH YEAH RIGHT ZERO.

Vindictus is a low budget, low content, thinly veiled buck-scrounger of a poor man's game. If you can have something as good as AoC (or hell, even LoTRO) why on EARTH would you submit yourself to that?

Unless your mind is closed, that's why.
so ... your basically a newb then

first, the dungeons

incorrect, the EXP is set so you have a minimal amount of actual EXP grinding only real choke point is lvl 50-53, the BP required to unlock the next dungeon can be gotten in 2 or 3 runs if it needs more then 100 (seen it done in 1, but that's rare)

raids
:D wow, you are thick here, AoC has 7? that it? ONLY 7 sucks for you, we got 9 state side, with at least 2 more we know about waiting in the wings, and the promise of more and bigger raids in the future

also, whats AoC got for those 'FUBAR' situations? you know, everything's going smooth as silk the suddenly, BAM, your partys fucked. YOU have a long walk back to your head stone, WE have Dark Knights and Paladins to 'fix' those situations, and get the team back on its feet

and if AoC is SO great, why is it going F2P? i'll tell you

NO ONE IS PLAYING IT, free to play is a last resort used to SAVE a flundering MMO, (in most cases) if the game was as great as you claim, should have never needed to go free to play, you don't see WoW or CoH going F2P or even Aion for that matter.

also, my mind is far from closed, ive played Requiem, AoC, DDO, DFO, CO, WoW, CoH, Vin, EQ2,PWI, APB reloaded and Guild Wars (that i can remember off hand)and I'm more then willing to give a new MMO a shot, AoC had its change and failed miserably.

but I'm sure all that's beyond your ability to grasp, since you post sound more like 'stop liking what i don't like' then a real argument

And has pretty high System Requirements, so APB's out of the question.
On top of that the mechanics just don't work with the game.

I'd recommend Dungeons and Dragons Online. By far the best I've played with low specs.

Try League of legends you can set it to low.its basicly a stratigy game where you play with a team of five people and you have to get into the enemys base and destory it.that discription did not do it too much justice.but try it for yourself the game is superfun.its not open world though.
