Hello kind, intelligent and handsome folk who come to this thread (All of you). In a little while I am about to go into Manly to get braces fitted. Is there anything I should know, things to avoid, benefits of braces?

First off eat anything you can within the first few hours. After the first few hours the pain sets in and doesn't let up for a few days. Don't rub your tongue on your braces, you'll get cut. Also the front of your mouth will get cut up, quite a lot. After a while you'll get used to the extra stuff in your mouth, then things get easier. They're well worth the pain though.

They fucking hurt, especially when you get them tightened, but they make your mouth look awesome. I had them for almost 4 years, and even though it wasn't fun, it was worth it.

Besides, I hear braces are chic.

its not as bad as everyone says it is

there's just a lot of pressure

and they hurt like hell ONLY for about the first week. until you have to get them tightened again :D

Oh, and get used to manuevering the wire inside your mouth so you dont scrape your mouth

Happy trails!

Hmm. A lot of people saying you can't chew gum. I was actually encouraged by my orthodontist to chew gum, as it helped with circulation or some nonsense. It also made the initial pain go away very quickly.

Prepare to eat soup for the first day or 2, because your teeth are just too sensitive to be able to chew anything.

On a similar note, do you guys think 17 is too old to be getting braces?
I'm 21 and still have braces (had them off and on since I was 12).

Had surgery last summer to fix my bite and am gonna get my braces off for the last time in another 6 months or so.
Thats what you think

They straighten your teeth, you can't eat hard or gooey stuff, and they look odd on adults. (no offense to braces wearing adults, but you know its true.)
I have a thing for people ladies in braces >.>( people Ladies wtf am I thinking.)

assuming they take of their teeth. I'd say don't eat popcorn or similar its annoying. Make sure you do what the orthodontist says or it will take longer and you'll be stuck with them more often?

If you play a brass or woodwind instrument, those will be the worst 2+ years of your life. Your playing ability will be very subpar and will take a bit to recover, it hurts like all hell to play and chop endurance is very weak.

Also they'll give you wax, but it sucks. Go to the nearest gas station and ask for some cigarette paper. It works way better.

Never put your retainers in hot water. I'm pretty sure that's why I have to wear this mouth guard thing at night.
