Specifically, more or less a JRPG.

Right now, I am bored with nothing to do at home. There aren't too many games that are interesting me at this point, being the summer time of the gaming drought n' all, and the ones that do interest me I have either forgotten about or have already played.

Recently, I have gotten a hankerin' for some RPGs as I have yet to play one for a very long time. However, I am getting sick of the Western RPGs that offer a huge open world, choices, ect.... as it just gets overwhelming and annoying at times.

This is why I'm preferring to get a JRPG on my hands. Most JRPGs focus on leveling up a bunch of characters, are nice and linear so I can enjoy the story at hand, and there's something about games that make me earn money then spend it on upgrades that I just love.

So, I'm having trouble finding some JRPGs to snack on, so are there any suggestions out there?

Platforms it should be on;
PlayStation 3, Retail or PSN
Playstation 2
Nintendo Wii
Nintendo DS

I have Valkyria Chronicles, Kingdom Hearts 1+2, and Dark Cloud 1+2, and so far I'm considering Disgaea 3 on the PS3, but that's all I can think of. Does anyone have any other suggestions out there?

Thank you in advance.

PS2:
Persona 3. It's a clever RPG. It will definitely keep you interested for a long time.

you and me both brother...DS is the only one that RPGs are being cranked out on, and those are just remakes. i actually want something turn based and not too serious.

EDIT: i read somewhere that tales of vesperia is being made for PS3. check on that one

PS3:
Valkyria Chronicles. It isn't exactly your bog standard JRPG, but the gameplay is fun, graphics are amazing and the story is well written with likeable characters

Sadly you did not include PC in that list, Mass Effect is a bloody good game.

Apart from that I'm out of ideas for you, I'm more of a PC person, and I am defiantly NOT a JRPG person.

Go with something on the PS2 / PS3.

Bleh, forgot to add RPGS I already have. I have Valkyria Chronicles, it's a fucking blast, I'll edit that in.

Well, two problems. One, my PC is a load of shit and as much as I want to include it I can't because of it. And two, Mass Effect is a Western RPG full of "choices" and "huge open world" and I'm really getting sick of it. Doesn't mean I wouldn't play it, but right now I'm just in the mood for a linear game to go with the flow.

The World Ends with you (DS)
Chrono Trigger (DS), a great classic.

Oh yeah, and the Dragon Quest series are as JRPG-y as you can get. :p

I was going to suggest Mount and Blade for the PC. It should run fine as its no great looker, my friend can run it on a machine that was build around 2001. But you basicaly get one huge ass map, 5 separate kingdoms which will interact with other, going to war, raising armies, hunting you down if you annoy them, some of the best meele combat I have ever seen and you get palaced in the middle of all this with the simple task "have fun"
Check out the demo at least.
Oh and reading other comments you made, its got no choices other than you who you kill next, pretty much no story other than the one craft yourself.

Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 is a good one. A bit more on the strategy side, but still a JRPG.

PS3:

Tales of Vesperia is supposidly being ported to the PS3, I found it to be a very enjoyable game.

Eternal Sonata is pretty and fun, even if the story is more than a little insipid.

PS2:

Persona 4, it's like Persona 3 only with better Characters, Story, Pacing and Battles.

Final Fantasy XII, sort of like a single player MMO. Brillaint World Design and a good plot if you can look past it's poor telling.

Dragon Quest 8, a super hardcore but super fun Old School RPG for the PS2, highly recommended.

DS:

The World Ends With You, it's fun, unique and well plotted. If you like JRPG's you really can't go wrong here.

Dragon Quest V, a little archaic in design but it has a great story and a good presentation.

Final Fantasy IV, a cool remake with cinematic cutscenes and voice acting.

Suikoden: Tierkries, has A++ production values and a good story that make up for the really, really repetative gameplay.

Knights in the Nightmare, a quirky Action-Strategy RPG with a steep learning curve, however once you figure it out it's VERY rewarding.

Chrono Trigger DS, a fairly meh port of the GREATEST RPG EVER. IF you already own it for the SNES, who cares. However if you don't GET THIS GAME NOW!

Wii:

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, if you have a Wii you have a Game Cube, get yourself a Memory Card and play this gem, it's got one of the best battle systems EVER and has some really fantastic humor to it.
