Hello people. Currently i'm actually trying to get a book together looking at the idea of Top 100 movies. For this i'm looking at critics lists, as well as peoples personal lists. Thankfully for the personal lists I just want a top ten. Seeming that The Escapist forums is full of highly intelligent people (shameless suck up) I was hoping people could either post their Top 10 lists in the thread, or even message me or email their lists if you don't want to put it down on the thread.

Any info I can get i'll be grateful for.

Sounds like fun! Here's a list of my 10 favourite movies. Perhaps not the 10 best movies I've seen, but the ones I love the most.
The titles are in no particular order.
1. Alien.
2. Dracula (the Bela Lugosi one).
3. Eraserhead.
4. Ed Wood.
5. Oldboy.
6. King Kong (the old one).
7. Requiem for a Dream.
8. Pan's Labyrinth.
9. Bröderna Lejonhjärta/The Brothers Lionheart.
10. Hellraiser 5. Don't judge me! :O

Whittling down your favourites is not very easy.

Taxi Driver
Citizen Kane
Lost In Translation
The Big Lebowski
The Shining
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Rear Window

Also check out these [http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=greatmovies_fulllist] two [http://www.afi.com/100years/movies10.aspx] lists for reference.

Thankyou very much for the references.

Also if others have ten movies but don't have any order that would be good as well.

Thanks for the lists so far, these are going to help this project.

I personally don't believe in having singular favourite films, as I enjoy a wide variety for different reasons. However, there is a book that has a similarish sort of concept to what you're talking about and it might remind of some titles to add to your list:

I have one of the editions. Really good book to use for layout and the kind of mini reviews they do. Thanks for the suggestion.

That goes for others as well. Any other book references people can think of would be appreciated.

1. Caddyshack
2. Aliens
3. Zombieland
4. Ferris Beullers Day Off
5. Ratatouille/How to Train Your Dragon
6. Toy Story
7. Jurrasic Park
8. Pirates of the Carribean
9. Independence Day
10. Sherlock Holmes

There are a couple I kept thinking about but I decided not to put up. Narrowing down favorites is tough.
Might I reccommend 100 top tens for each genre? (Top 100 comedies, Top 100 Sci-fi/Action, Etc.)

It's a bit mean of me to ask people to narrow favourites. I've done it myself and it's tough. Just to show that I can also be mean to myself. Here's my top 10.

01) Shawshank Redemption
02) Inception
03) Oldboy
04) The Dark Knight
05) Watchmen
06) Children of Men
07) Fight Club
08) Ink
09) Natural Born Killers
10) Heat

As for the genre idea, a few friends have suggested that to me as well. For what i'm doing though it's not about genre but bridging a gap between Critics Top 100, and what would be classed as a general Top 100. But I might still do the genre films breakdown in an appendix. But any ideas people have are also welcomed.

I had to leave out many great movies just to get the list down to 10. I'm not absolutely sure about it and I can't put them in order, but here's the ones that came to mind right now.

Hot Fuzz
Aguirre
Fitzcarraldo
Hero
Terminator
Predator
Kick-Ass
Léon
Caligula
2001: A Space Odyssey

In no particular order, here's what comes to mind...

The Crow
Se7en
Lord of the Rings
Shrek
Kill Bill
Hero (with Jet Li)
The Princess Bride
Matrix
Heat
Grandma's Boy

Now if I was to come up with this list tomorrow, I'm sure only half the movies would be the same.

Sometimes it's all about being in the moment. The only reason why my top 10 is pretty solid is because I like to delude myself into thinking i'm a reviewer, (I do some for my blog) so i'm always thinking how movies stand to my top 10. But normally a person's top 10 is always shifting with mood, mindset and of course what they've seen. But any info is good info and I thank you as well as everyone whose jotted them down so far.

That's actually why i'm asking for these lists. I mean surely favourites should be given some weight along side movies dubbed by critics as excellent examples of cinema. Also woot for seeing Ghostbusters appear on a list.

Top 10 film lists have been a big thing with me and my flatmates for the last couple of years. One of my flatmates had a dad who ran a DVD rental shop so we used to get loads of films out for free.

This is mine (in an attempted order):

The Shawshank Redemption
American Beauty
The Usual Suspects
Schindlers List
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Pulp Fiction
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Matrix
The Silence of the Lambs
Forrest Gump

We were a bit harsh in not allowing franchises, so LOTR: ROTK (and Indiana Jones to a lesser extent) are there because I picked my favourite film out of the franchise.

I get criticised for only picking modern films, but it's not a concious thing. I genuinely prefer all the films above to, for example, The Godfather or The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Sometimes modern films speak more to people than the older ones. Completely understand that. And if your room mates want to join my grand quest the can always post here on the forum or email me. Looking for all the information I can get.

I am watching a lot of older movies right now for a movie review blog I am working on. Actually, more 80s and early 90s stuff than anything else. Right now, I have seen a lot of good, but not great, older movies.

In no particular order:

Joe Versus the Volcano
The Last Chase
Action Jackson
Goonies
D.A.R.Y.L.
Cloak and Dagger
Alone in the Dark (1982)
It Came From Hollywood
Barbarians
They Call Me Bruce

Any era can be a good era for people. I dig The Burbs which I think was an 80's movie.

And with that i'm headed to bed, hopefully the top 10 fairy will come during the night and put more lists on here. To everyone who has put their lists, thankyou. I know i've said it a few times but this is all really helping, and the more I get the better it makes it.

Cheers
