I cannot tell you how many times I have been "corrected" by other people who say I shouldn't be liking the newer generations of pokemon.

It sort of depends on how he told you, his tone and implied meaning. If he meant you shouldn't because he thinks he is right and you and wrong, then he is just a dick. It might help if you knew why he said it.
