I think I'm done with military shooters for a while. Suggestions?

Fallout 3
and Fallout New Vegas
Now I'll admit, the enemy AI probably isn't as fast or clever as the ones in other shooter games. but It does give you more chances to think, They are shooters though and the shooting mechanics work well, though I recommend you play fallout 3 get used to the mechanics. then play New Vegas, which has a bit more depth and complexity but once you figure it out it's quite rewarding.

I just finished the BF3 campaign and I must say, it was fucking awful. I finished MW3 last week (I know I'm late, blame being a uni student) and it was fucking awful.

So basically, the two games I was looking forward to most this year, MW3 and BF3 (obviously), were complete letdowns in almost every way to me. I'm about ready to swear them off. And those are my favorite kinds of games!

So, fellow gamers, what are some good games to waste my winter break with that are not Skyrim?
Ratchet and clank
Jak and Daxter
The Resistance series
The Infamous series
The Souls Franchise (Dark Souls and Demon's souls)
The Killzone games

Depends what consoles you have. I can only help with PC, Wii, DS and what I've heard about some Xbox Live Arcade games.

killing floor is very awesome, and you can try it for free this weekend on steam :D
I want to emphasize this post. Get Killing Floor. It's the shooter I have played the most of all and probably the game on Steam I have played the most.

I personally would go with Saints Row The Third and/or Dues Ex Human Revolution. Both games are big heaps of fun for everybody to enjoy!

Minecraft, or Terraria. I hear they're both great.

Or go to your closet, pull out your dusty armor and sword. Shout Fus Roh Da and go slay dragons. For Skyrim!

Indie game time!

-Frozen Synapse

Imagine a game of Counter Strike. Now imagine that game being played out in a serise of five second turns. Now imagine that you command one team of players from a top-down perspective. Avaliable on steam.

-Cave Story

A one-man labour of love over five years and releaced for free in 2004. Kick-started the indie scene by proving it could be done. A great platfromer RPG with fantanstic scenery and mulitplu endings, each reachable in 2-3 hours. Needs to be played at least three times.

-Urban Terror

A free FPS with a very strong playerbase. Counter-Strike without the cash and much faster movment.

That's enough for one winter.

Dynasty Warriors 7, Skyward Sword, Mortal Kombat, Dead Rising 2, Crackdown 1, Super Mario Galaxy, Disgaea 4, Dead Island... The list could go on. Any preferred Genres? That would narrow it down a lot.
Anything with a decent story and isn't entirely repititive or reliant on QTE's.

Okay. Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword, Disgaea 4, Dead Rising 2 and Case Zero, Mortal Kombat, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Fallout New Vegas also it's DLCs, Pokemon Black and/or White, Dynasty Warriors 7, and Dead Space 1 and 2. Those are a few that I can think that I like the story of and have little to no QTEs.

Let's see what a look at Ye Olde Gameshelfe recommends.

Red Dead Redemption
Bulletstorm
Vanquish
Uncharted 1/2/3
Borderlands
Fallout 3/New Vegas
Portal 1/2
Transformers: War for Cybertron
inFamous 1/2
BioShock 1/2
Dead Rising 2
Assassin's Creed
Mass Effect 1/2
Serious Sam
Painkiller
Doom 1/2 (Wouldn't really recommend 3)
Metro 2033

Ok, there are a few exclusives in there but I have no idea what system you're using so there's my two cents

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Portal 2, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Shadow of the Colossus, Cyrsis 2, Vanquish, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. There is soo many good ones. I for one don't really like Military Shooters.

I'll throw Deus Ex Human Revolution up there, myself.

It's the best game I've played all year. It was DAMN good. Just play smart, and you will have a blast.

I also have to disagree with the guy telling you to use a guide for the social/debate "bosses". It's WAY more tense and awesome if you try to solve them on your own. Although there's no shame in getting the social augment that gives you more analysis for them. It helps a lot for the later ones. (I solved most of them without the social aug on my first try, although it did save me for two of the later ones)

Oh, and don't try to keep your energy full all the time. Most of the time, all you need is that one recharging battery.

Bastion.

And ye olde classics.

Lord of the Rings : Battle for middle Earth.
Ratchet & Clank Series.
The Jak Series on the PS2. Ignore the PS3 Jak like the plague.

Crysis 2, not a Military shooter? I know you get the suit and all, but I'm pretty sure you play as a Delta Force or SEAL guy. It plays a hell of a lot like Call of Duty, except with Aliens, and the Multiplayer is call of duty, just with invisibility which makes camping snipers even more annoying.

I know it's not a pure military shooter, but it is one. You get escorted around by military dudes, you get flown around in military helicopter things, and you get bossed around by a CIA chick. It's a military shooter, just with aliens..... and the aliens basically are humans, they walk on two legs and everything.
