I think, that they are causing no real harm to any of us, and are actually quite funny. They do good deeds too: Such as hacking into the NHS (National Health Service), but then just emailing them to make them aware of the security vulnerabilities they found. Or when they entered a hacking contest, won it, and turned down the $10,000 prize.

They're not complete bastards. I mean, they're not 'Anonymous' for fucks sake.

EDIT: Oh, and it's just kinda funny to see what shit they do.
If they were only hacking into other sites and then reporting the vulnerabilities to the owners I would have no problem with them. Stealing copies of personal data which could be used perform identity fraud, credit fraud and any other number of illegal activities and releasing it onto the open internet is irresponsible and criminal.

I would like to see you call it funny after having your credit shot because some hacker gave credit card numbers and personal details to the world.

I said it before and so Ill say it again. Lemme go quote it from another thread.

lukeyk:

Fusioncode9:

They're not trying to prove anything, they're just doing it for the lulz. This isn't Anonymous.

Oh okay then that makes it all better. Don't worry ima just rob a bank, take all the money, perhaps shoot a couple of people in their feet, burn part of it down. But I won't take the money instead ill just draw little smiley faces on them and then leave while smiling and shooting some more people in the feet. Oh what's that? This will have serious consequences? But I'm doing it for the lulz so its fine! What you mean that added security measures with a huge part of the economy having the chance of being massively crippled and will have to go under more pressure than it already is from the media and such? Oh well we're doing for the lulz. Ha Ha Ha. Aren't I so witty?

These utter prats need to grow the hell up and realise that what their doing has consequences whether its for the lulz or because they're all dying of brain poisoning but that it has consequences for a hell of a lot of people.

(My apologies for the guy I quoted.. I kinda just ranted at him for something which may not of been his view)

END:

So are they hurting stuff? Yes. It's not a simple case of them proving faults in security and then simply leaving it alone, it's a case of a bunch of bloody self proclaimed "Heroes" Who are going around stealing what they want and what they can't steal due to various reasons they attempt to sell it off as "We were just pointing out security flaws, or we didn't hack them as we liked the nintendo 64" This is physical stuff that they are stealing from online, and I'm certain that if I were to go around and steal peoples information, and break into big companies and steal their private information then I would be arrested and jailed. Same needs to happen to these guys. It needs a zero tolerance policy.

- They took down the Escapist. And as we all know, this site might go down on Wednesday during Zero Punctuation hours. So it was neither a challenge or a valid target.
-They post people's personal information online.

Ergo, they're a bunch of annoying pricks that need to stop acting like the internet equivalent of putting a burning dog turd in front of a house.

I'd love to see you say that when your information is leaked.

Yeah, maybe it was fun to begin with, but now they are just acting like fucking brats who got nothing better to do than annoying people... for the lulz.
You realize that is the entire point of it right? They don't really give a crap about anything, it's all for "teh lulz".

You will need this.
I honestly don't mind lulzsec, they have two catchy theme songs and post their more notable hackings via Twitter. As they've mentioned in their letter to the internet, hackers can and will hide shit and any unknown information is information more needed to be feared.

Meanwhile, almost all gamers are blowing a gasket over these guys, further causing Lulzsec to WANT to hack. In other words to the haters,if you don't want to deal with Lulzsec hacking things, stop whining about it. Trolls will feed on hate,Lulzsec is a straight out troll organization, and yet you continue to feed them.

P.S.I couldn't help but to laugh last Titanic Takeover Tuesday,I just couldn't be mad.

(Yeah,Imma need that flame shield too now that I look at it.)

You sir have a very twisted sense of humor. The scary thing is I am sure you aren't alone. I've seen many threads supporting them. Boggles my mind. Would you think it was amusing if your personal information was given out and your identity stolen? If its never happened to you, you can't fathom what a pain in the ass it is.
I personally would love to see all of these hackers in jail.

Lulsec is like a drunk guy stumbling around walking into people, puking on them even, he stays incredibly entertaining to look at, until he knocks your beer out of your hand.

They became dicks when they brought down the PSn for a fucking month. And that was the first time I heard of them. They are dicks nonetheless for thinking they can get away with it. I'm certain sooner or later, they will be sent to prison for cyber crimes and butt raped by murderers.

While I'm glad that the world doesn't have another Anonymous in its hand I think it would be preferable to this.

One can see why Anonymous acts like they do and understand it: Free speech for all, no matter the consequences. Lulzsec on the other hand has no goal beyond the laughs, and they could in theory get the laughs without damaging others.

Remember there is a large contingent of gamers out there who are not old enough to have any assets to protect let alone own credit cards to steal. They don't know what it's like to have earned something of value. Remember that a website like this is a business like any other. Someone spent tens of thousands of dollars to set this all up just so idiots can burn it down 'for teh lulz'.

oh, really?

So you wouldn't mind just sending me your email account details, and your bank details?

yeah just because nothing has happened directly to you, doesn't mean it is funny. Because thousands of other people have had their personal details stolen.

Honestly, annon does overall less harm that teh lulz...

yeah both to have a certain humor about them, but on he whole annon seems less malicious than lulzsec. I mean, if annon did hack sony, it was just to make a point; thats their MO. Lulz just does it for, well, the lulz; it serves no purpose, and only inconveniences Sony Customers and give the government an excuse to control the internet.

As for the NHS thing; that looks like a one-off for PR, they haven't done anything else of a positive nature since. As for the money, as was already stated, that money would be followed by the government. Taking it was a risk they didn't want to take.

I disagree completely.

"Funny" hacking is hacking a website and changing its homepage to a picture of a Lolwrus to mock the weak security, then leaving a note on suggested improvements.

"Asshole" hacking is releasing thousands of people's information, targeting specific companies, and sparing others because "you like them."

Fuck Lulzsec.

I really don't care what lulzsec does as long as it's funny and doesn't affect me negatively.
Wait a sec, they took down The Escapist before. Fuck them.

They gave out Paypal accounts. I saw one person on Twitter who got one with $250 in it. Is stealing money funny to you?

Also, I find this funny, because LulzSec is the one without ethics.
