On the point of "less is more" that someone raised, can I suggest looking at Orwell's "Politics and the English Language" (I think that's the exact title)?
While it's not directly related to the topic, he talks about the "less is more" principle, and in the process tears "big speakers" to shreds. Written in the 40s, but I reckon it's still relevant today.
