What are some games you want to love but for some reason or another you just cant get into.

The first on my list is Dishonored. I want to like this, I like the idea of stealth games. I think what kept me from getting into this was the good/bad endings. In a stealth game where I'm given the option not to kill, I tend to go not kill, but pretty much all the fun stuff in Dishonored is of the killing variety so I ended up playing the game in a less fun way and ended up just stopping partway though. Never to bother picking it up again.

I would have liked to have gotten into Overwatch. I really like the feel of it, the games concept and personality, and I see a lot of other people having a blast with it. I really think its a good game and I'd love to play it.

But I could only manage 5 minutes of the beta before quitting. It's too hectic, and the characters too varied. I just can't summon the will to get through the learning curve - I can't get past the 'What in the fuck is going on' stage. I felt like I was staring into a disco ball and trying to pick out individual reflective plates through the glare of light.

I also kind of wish I could have loved DS3, but I simply dislike the game. I can see why other people like it, but it feels like they took out all the things I loved and cranked up all the things I didn't like from DS1.

I'm sorta' in the same boat, but I'd expand it any moba game. Overwatch, BalleBorn, Evolve, TF2, TitanFall. Not to be snarky, but I just don't have the time or patience for them. Too many levels, too many obstacles, too much grind, too much rage quit, too much multiplayer bullshit. And by the time I get any good, its a damned ghost town game.
Like with Killing Floor and Space Marine. By the time I was legit good, I struggled to find a single match per day. And from what I heard TF2 community its utterly toxic, so that's where Overwatch is heading in 18 months.

Fallout New Vegas

There is stuff in there I know I would like but the railroading at the start and how easy it is to get killed just sucks me out of it. Not to mention the invisible walls everywhere. I like to explore in games and New Vegas doesn't want me to explore it wants to tell me a story.

I felt the same way initially. That sense of "Lights! Loud noises! Things are HAPPENING" passes quickly, and you can go straight into raging about hero balance and the vagaries of the match maker.

OT: The only thing that has ever really "called" to me as a gamer in terms of wanting to like it but having no connection whatsoever is the Nintendo franchises. Your Marios, your Pokemons, your Zeldas, your many and varied Kongs. I never owned a Nintendo, I never touched any of these games save in the most cursory of fashions. I'll come across image dumps sometimes that are gaming retrospectives or best of all time lists and the first thing I'll see is some Zelda reference and I'll just...sigh. It means nothing to me!

I guess that's not really the same as "not getting into it" though. Hmm.

Grand Theft Auto? Kind of janky, super mean-spirited and infantile (and not in a fun way), irritating difficulty scaling. Never cared for that series. Let's go with that.

Oh yeah, I forgot about New Vegas. I heard the story got quite good but once I got to vegas in it I just couldn't be bothered to play it anymore. I think I made the mistake of only using laser weapons, I tend to do that with Bethesda open world games, using a single weapon type since "Ill use another my next play though." Which never happens since I tend to get bored with it and never beat the game that first time.

Every time I see people talking about how great New Vegas's story was and comparing it to Fallout 3 and, more recently, Fallout 4, I always want to get back and experience the story. Then I'm reminded why I never bothered in the first place: The game just isn't a lot of fun. I'd much rather be let loose to explore the worlds of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 than strung for the story of New Vegas, which wasn't even that gripping for at least the first 10 hours.

Then there are the Souls games. I like them, but my schedule doesn't permit the investment they require. Dark Souls 2 was the one I managed to get furthest in, but even then I was forced to take about a week away, and when I came back, it just wasn't as appealing anymore. For me, the series demands a constant, long-term investment, and I just don't have the time for it. And it isn't just the "git gud" element. Even the world and story lose their appeal.

I really loved that one and did get into it but it his a difficulty spike I never got past.

Skyrim took me forever to get into. I only started to like it once I got the trainer downloads and mods.

South Park Stick of Truth has pissed me off. The bad guys are leveling with me. In Diablo, you start with some little blue guys kicking your butt. They don't level with you, so you find you can wipe out a room full of them with a button click. Then, you were challenged by new monsters. South Park? Little elf enemies are just as strong as you as the game goes on!

I keep retrying Red Dead Redemption of PS3. Then, I get into a horse race. Ick. Yahtzee warning of cheap instakills in that game are also off-putting.

For those who don't know, Taris is the first planet of the damn game.

Mass Effect on the PC.

Ok first problem was the screen resolution didn't match my so I had to played it at the highest it got which was bad. It was only when weeks later I read somewhere it turn out there were more options that were hidden well it was offscreen and you just have to keep scrolling down! Bad display design!

Second problem, I just find it so dull at the start just trying to get into it and I was not fully adjusted to the control like I keep forgetting to sprint.

Third problem (the last straw). When the quests did open up, it was kinda too much for me well I felt like I choose the wrong one as in they were higher level to do? Anyway I stoped playing when I got back to the main quest to find that blue alien chick first but I keep dying halfway through the level and it ALWAYS take me back to the start of the level! Also my recent saved files was at the start of it and the others were back at the beginning so yeah, I called it quit!

Oh there also the Monster Hunter franchise-
Ok I did beat Tri and work my way up to 80 online with PUG it was a grueling process (typical toxic players).
4 Ultimate was just as hard but I manage to beat the story mode. Then came the + plus and I was having a hard time beating the first + monster, a crab. Final straw was when I learn of G mode after + so it was like a "Fuck you" sort of reaction. Also don't give me the "git good" bullcrap! I can never fathom on how people can perfectly time their swings and charge attacks when there are many monsters to try to learn their attack patterns. Before you asked, I used lance and shield as it wasn't slow and I an block (I fail at dodge like come on! Some monster attacks are big blast!). Also I played Ultimate ALONE and I have seen plenty of people online having a good time playing with friends (like Game Grump), something I don't have and I didn't want to used PUG again in fear of the toxicity.
So yeah I given up on the franchise despite I want to get the newest Generation game.

Half-Life 2. I tried. I really, REALLY freaking tried. I plowed through the game waiting for the "best game of all time" people had told me so much about to pop up. All I got was something that was slightly above average. I got to the point where the resistance was making their way towards the Citadel when I finally lost interest and stopped playing.

Sacrifice should've been right up my alley (weird but fun cast, a little comedy, 3rd person RTS, can choose story, etc.), but unfortunately, I found all the managing to be a constant chore in the end.

You had to constantly collect souls and summon a guy for that, then summon units and number them all because eventually you can't fit them all on your screen (and even then it's a mess), then you have to keep selecting all the groups to attack as well as cast spells from the get go, and even when you kill the enemy summoner, they just come right back in a second!

They should've just made it like a basic RTS I reckon.

Dwarf Fortress. There are so many stories about the depth the game offers, and the stories it tells, but the UI is so cumbersome, the game (currently) so lacking challenge, and the endless walls of gibberish "details" I couldn't manage it. Maybe in 10 years.

I really wish I could play the Witcher games for the expansive story and pretty combat, but Geralt looks too much like my dad. Not exactly like him, but enough that it is uncomfortable for me to play.

This is a good one, too. I really wanted to get into Dwarf Fortress. I really did. But a literal brick with buttons tacky glued onto it provides a better interface experience than Dwarf Fortress.

Wasteland 2. Well, ok I did like and put up with its' unforgiving gameplay, the reload function was a common acquaintance. But i made it up to a certain point, reached a new area where every direction then available seemed to require a skill level I haven't reached to take a non-aggressive route or else get ripped apart by hordes of higher level, better equipped enemies. I try another path to stealthily get by, then *Boom!!* ...randomly placed mines that can't be detected?? What the fuck, game? Every different strategy I deployed ended in me needing to be a higher level to succeed, sighing as I prepared for yet another battle upon which swift, bloody deaths occur...Followed by a longass loading screen to allow the stewing of doubting thoughts as they marinate in the fading moments of time.

Up until that point, I was barely getting through confrontations and buying up every passing medkit as it were, that area just destroyed any lingering hope I had of getting anywhere without severely overworking the spleenal glands into self-destruction. It seemed like it could be good though, even with that permanently annoying camera angle.

Er... there are far better comparisons you could make than Diablo and The Stick of Truth. They're not the same style of game, and there are plenty of turn-based RPGs that don't do level scaling (and isometric ARPGs that do).

I don't think that really gives enough context. Taris is the "tutorial" planet; it's where you're dumped before you start to get your Jedi training, and you spend quite a bit of time wandering around doing various quests for people. Generally speaking, you're there until you're level 8 (or at least that's pretty close to the max level you can reach before leaving), and this is a D&D-style game where the level cap is 20, I believe, and leveling isn't terribly fast.

It also pretty much plays out the same way every time, because it's kinda too early for you to really go hardcore good or evil either way.

And in fairness, KotOR II has Peragus + The Citadel at the start of the game. People even created a mod specifically designed to skip Peragus because it's just so tedious on multiple play-throughs.

OT: Most recently, Mega Man. In the wake of Mighty No. 9 I decided to finally kinda really dig into the Mega Man franchise, and the original series just doesn't do anything for me. I can appreciate them for how revolutionary they are, but they're very frustrating for me. Mega Man X was a lot more tolerable, though all of the ones from X5 and on left a bad taste in my mouth.

Transformers: Devastation

I love Platinum Games and their combat, but this was a low point for me. Having already played Bayonetta 2, the system was nothing really new to me.
- While the weapon drop/weapon levelling system was neat, its not very satisfying for such an intense fighting game to be limited by RPG elements.
- The enemies were small in number and not very unique. There were only a handful of enemy types in the game, not including bosses. Enemies rarely did anything too unique either.
- The combat system just felt like pressing buttons and waiting for the blue flash to press shift. I didn't feel a need for advanced combos or interesting techniques. Dodge, hit buttons, hit shift.
- The bosses were just massive bullet sponges. A good run on the first boss takes 7-10 minutes of the same 6 attack patterns. The triple insectoid bossfight was kinda fun, but most of them were pretty bare.
