Thinking you had a sword I might be able to understand, but an assault rifle? Were you carrying it in a way that would add to that impression?

Based on the thread title, I figured there was a 95% chance that this was about some neckbeard getting stopped for carrying a toy-sword umbrella and a 5% chance that this was one of the legions of legitimate complaints about ridiculous police force tactics/policies. Occam's Razor ftw I guess.

As someone else pointed out, I don't see what the police did wrong here. They got a report that you were carrying an assault rifle and they sent out reasonable force to investigate. Blame the people who reported it. However, because the simple answer is usually the right one, I can't help but imagine the OP hiding behind his neighbor's hedge pointing the umbrella like a gun at passing cars. We are, after all, talking about a person that thought a toy-sword umbrella was cool.

Here's your new thread title: "Man gets stopped by police for carrying umbrella designed to look like weapon."

You better be careful that Oswald Cobblepot doesn't come after you for stealing his gimmick.

I was filming a video with a few friends when I was in college. We got the cops called on us by several people saying that we were walking around with a shotgun on campus. It was just a boom mic......

cop luld and shook his head.
Yeah... my whole collage campus was put into lock down over that exact scenario.

"lol, dem cops so stoopid sayin i haz teh gun lololol!!1!"

"That man murdered 5 people and the police did nothing! WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!"

Or as I like to call it: fucked if they do, fucked if they don't. I'd rather hear the first one all the time though, as opposed to the second.

I have a theory...he's actually the greatest assassin whose ever lived, and one of his failed targets noticed the trademark Assault Rifle Umbrella and decided to call the Authorities before he launched a one man war against the local mafia in a bloody battle that'd go down in history!

It wasn't the police's fault. SOMEONE reported him to have been carrying an assault rifle.

As for OT: I still want a secret service umbrella - I seen it on TV, there's one specially made out of some kind of titanium frame, with stab-proof fabric. They had a guy put the umbrella between two tables, and he was JUMPING up and down on the umbrella, and all it did was bend a bit under his weight... Oh and the thing is entirely windproof - like the brolly I have; the weathershield is layered into two sections that allows wind to pass through it so you don't get retarded inside-out umbrella when the wind blows.

THAT is an umbrella you can kill someone with - or at least beat someone half to death with.

Funny looking assault rifle. Not really the police's fault if they did receive complaints from people though...

Seriously though, be careful with that thing indoors, you could fucking curse someone if you opened it in the wrong place.

Just trying to keep my tone casual (my rule - forum is a place where people mix and get loud, be easygoing, talk like you do in the real world, avoid abbreviations); I'm trying to not offend by using an easygoing tone :p (it's subtle, but you'd be surprised one out of place word can change the way someone feels about something) but obviously that had the opposite effect on you XD

I wouldn't use that in a more... official document.

Well... it could be worse. Look at the Wikileaks video that shows a guy carrying a camera on a tripod and a US military helicopter gunned him and his friends down. And then when a van came to help the wounded they shot up the van too. And it had kids inside. So being asked about something which could be misinterpreted as a weapon is not that bad.

How can someone look at an umbrella and think "assault rifle"? that's what I want to know.

i know you were just pointing out an observation, no offence or anything was taken by it. i've been here for....3 years(?) and so far only 1 person has managed to slightly offend me. i didn't mean anything by my reply, either. that's the problem with written stuff, tone can be hard to read...get it, 'read'...i won't give up my day job!
