I'll do it anyway: I'm training to be an English teacher. I love music above all else, mostly punk, hardcore and metalcore. I love and collect comic books (almost exclusively DC). I have quite a few tattoos (good ones, not tribals or kanjis) and I'm a very loud and annoying person.

I've always considered myself a "geek" and when I was younger I guess I did fit the archetype somewhat. These days no one could guess just by looking at me. In fact some refuse to believe me when I refer to myself as geek. They insist the word I'm looking for must be "quirky".

My partner is also a gamer and no one would consider him to match the sterotype either. To be honest, I've rarely met people with similar interests to my own that actually match the socially accepted definition of a nerd.

I think our pleasures are seen more as normal these days as ordinary people, as it were, have started to admit liking geeky things. It's just not the same subject of stigma anymore. That is until some wack job who's happened to have played a game or read a fantasy book etc goes and does something silly...
