Space cowboys? Firefly, the game! I would definitely buy that, though I'd be wary on what the mechanics of such a game would be.
Thats what I've always thought would be really awesome. And it could be done with today's powerful machines. We'll probably never get it though.FlyAwayAutumn said:Hmmm, I like the way you think friend. You got a good thing going there.RandallJohn said:That's actually what I had in mind.FlyAwayAutumn said:But if there's only a certain amount of recruitable NPCs, then if they all die wouldn't you be screwed?![]()
Not in the gameplay sense, but more in the sense that now you've lost your big, reliable guy, and you have to make do without him. As far as the actual gameplay, maybe you could have an infinite amount of "hireling" style NPCs who can join you, but aren't up to the caliber of the main NPCs. Kind of like the difference between a PC and a minion in D&D. The issue with that woud be that you'd have to spend a ridiculous amount of time scripting for every eventuality and character death, but I'm just spitballing here, so yeah.
As far as the feel that I'm trying to accomplish with this, I'm thinking along the lines of George R.R. Martin's philosophy on killing characters off:
Maybe it wouldn't translate well in a game, but I think it'd be kinda cool.George R.R. Martin said:"...I don't know, [but] when my characters are in danger, I want you to be afraid to turn the page (and to do that) you need to show right from the beginning that you're playing for keeps."
The way you put it sounds like GTA in space. Which is awesome, a space bounty hunter opera sandbox game.Vohn_exel said:I've often thought that a game where you can travel in space but also visit various planets and space stations would be a huge hit. I mean, imagine where it's up to you where you go, and you have these fully explorable planets that you can land on or go to any time. You could complete missions or just run around killing people and blowing stuff up in space if you wanted to.FlyAwayAutumn said:So I've been playing Red Dead Redemption, I've been watching Cowboy Bebop and I had an idea.
I'm sure plenty of people have had this idea before but I want to hear some thoughts on this.
Think of a game, Red Dead Redemption style. In space. Going to different planets catching bounties and such.
And that's all I got I haven't thought of it much past that I just wanted to share the idea with everyone. So any thoughts? Do you think this would make a good game? If not how could it be made better?
P.S Anyone like my avatar? Huh? Huh? Cool stuff, huh?

That sounds like... Red Dead in space... Not much to say about yay or nay, it's just a setting really. Personally I generally despise space settings.FlyAwayAutumn said:So I've been playing Red Dead Redemption, I've been watching Cowboy Bebop and I had an idea.

As in, studying it at college/university? If so, what kind of stuff do you learn there?Drakmeire said:In fact I'm studying game design

College. I'm still fairly new in the program but I've learned some basic coding and interactivity so I can design text based games and a few simple sprites for now. nothing special but I'm planning out storyboards and game mechanics for a few independent ideas right now, I'll handle the mechanics and my best friend will handle the art.Secret world leader (shhh) said:As in, studying it at college/university? OT: "you can make a movie out of anything" -Moviebob
Replace movie with game and that's pretty much what i think, as long as you can make the game fun.

If it was one massive Earth it wouldn't have that Cowboy Bebop feel I wanted.No_Remainders said:It sounds like a game which, personally, I wouldn't go near with a fucking barge pole.
It's just... Travelling between planets is so over-rated. The problem is that usually each planet will only have 1 or 2 areas, and nothing more.
Why not go back to multiple discs and have just a MASSIVE Earth?

So, so much.
I was going for Cowboy Bebop: The Game with Red Dead controls.Kurokami said:That sounds like... Red Dead in space... Not much to say about yay or nay, it's just a setting really.
