Ideas for killing time?

So I just graduated about a month ago, only to discover the sad truth that getting a job is not as easy as puking on a copy of Dragon Age 2. Damnit.

And now I've just moved to another boarding house. Got myself a nice room, quite spacious, and free of charge (because I own the place lol).

I have a high-end rig, an LED TV, and all that jazz.

The shit part is, this area is not yet in coverage of the most decent Internet provider, and now I'm using a CDMA modem-thingy which is a miracle if it even hits a 500kbps speed T__T (plus a quota of 500 gigs per day)

I am sooo missing out on BF3, and god forbid D3.

So fellow escapists..
What the fuck am I supposed to do to find enjoyment?

Though I do still have a collection of SP games, but still...

- replaying FNV since yesterday, taking a break from skyrim because I can't download them mods
- Will go for ME3 as soon I get a good connection
- HL2, that's like breakfast for me
- Replayed Portal already, not interested in Portal 2 (it suffered consolitis)

Find a hobby or a worthy goal, learn a skill or write a book (or at least just write).


If you mean gamewise, Battle For Wesnoth is a free and extremely good turn based strategy game with an absurd amount of content

I'm entirely self-taught...professional education only matters so much with programming, although it can definitely help with understanding what's going on behind the scenes. It's easiest to just dive in.

If you do feel like getting started, then this [http://www.pygame.org/docs/] website is a really good place to start, as it gets you programming games within a relatively quick time on an easy & fun programming language. I've been considering putting together a user group for escapists who want to develop games actually, but am not anywhere near enough qualified to lead it yet...

Steam has an almost unlimited supply of games, just look for ones that look interesting and didn't review horribly. As for some of my favourite SP games for PC, play:

- Elder Scrolls IV and V
- Fallout 3 and New Vegas
- Bioshock (don't know about the sequel)
- Crysis
- Viva Pinata (I don't care what anyone says, this game rocks, and is super mega cheap on Amazon)
- Portal 1 and 2
- Minecraft and Terraria? (but are much better when with others)
- Assassin's Creed games

There really is a lot of options for singleplayer, in fact it's got a lot better stuff out there than MP does. Also turn-based games would still be alright in the worst of internet connections, so you could try that.

I just got that game for maybe $5. Pretty good value. Very colorful, not bad to just space out to. Pretty fun. People might make fun of you for playing it, because it does initially come across pretty wimsicle.

You know, something always confused me about the whole "go look for a job" thing. Sure some people can do that but what about the people that already have 12 applications in and are waiting to hear from someone? Are they supposed to run around their town randomly asking people to hire them? How exactly are you supposed to "go find a job" when half of job hunting is waiting to hear about your application?

Nope, apparently you have to set up a rota for your nearest town so that you go in every store and ask them if they have any jobs going. You then do this every 2 hours until they give you one.
