If the starters met

Given the 12 starters in all of Pokemon: Venasaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Meganium, Typhlosion, Feraligatr, Grovyle, Blaziken, Swampert, Torterra, Infernape, and Empoleon, if two of the same element met, who would win in a fight?

Example: Blastoise versus Feraligatr. I say, not through bias, but actual thought through the matter, that Blastoise would win.

There are a lot of pokemon related threads today aren't there? :p Charizard would clearly kill Blaziken, he's just generally better with his flying side. Blaziken's fighting style would lose out easily if you just give charizard fly, however cheap that may be.

In your example I think I have to say Feraligatr, mostly because he can make use of more non-type moves then Blastoise. (I think, I'm no poke expert)

Anyhow,

Venasaur > Meganium
Charizard > Typholosion
Charizad < Blaziken or Infernape (because of rock type moves that can be taught)

And more but I can't be bothered to think.

Yes, there are. In fact, it's the direct inspiration for this thread, along with I've always wondered people's thoughts about it.

Why all the Pokemon threads over the past couple of days? It seems that The Escapist has thread trends every so often, and this one is Pokemon. Not a Dig or anything, just a simple observation.

Anyway, this answers the question simply and easily. Grass beats Water. Water beats Fire. Fire beats Grass. Simple as that. In reality, however, it is tougher because it depends on the trainer and how the Pokemon itself was trained. Given the right training a Pidgey could probably wipe out a Charizard of a higher level, depending on the trainer and experiences they've had in terms of training. If two of the same element also met, therefore, this same situation would occur, and so the training would kick in more than the individual elements. So there is no simple answer overall to the question posed by the OP. It would simply be a case of which Pokemon was trained better and is stronger, not the Pokemon itself.

If I remember, Charizard can be taught also Dig. Earth-type attack, very strong, and gives immunity for 1 round between attacks.

Only that such rock-type moves are not STABbed.

well it depends whether they have a general movepool or not. Teach a pokemon a tm and it can make all the difference. If not, the double typed ones would win, for example, bulbasaur is half poison, meaning the other grass starters can have their asses handed to them.

I would win, because I'd just save and retry the fight until I won.

Sadly, Infernape can beat nearly all the other starters.

Empoleon can take nearly anything else thanks to the half steel typing, even though that same typing allows Infernape to OHKO it with Close Combat.

The old starters just don't hold up as well as they used to...The only ones of the old starters that can still kick ass are Venusaur and Swampert.

The originals because they are just better in every way. To be honest, I just hate the others.

Its because everyone sees the pokemon thread and then comes up with an idea based on that theme, we all do it

Do not forget that it is still a 4x weakness.

Lets see:
Blastoise>Empoleon>Feraligatr

Charizard>Blaziken>Infernape

Torterra>Venesaur>Sceptile

These are who I think would win. Not biased. My favorites are actually Blastoise, Feraligatr, Blaziken, and Empoleon. Those are all my starters.

*cracks knuckles*
Okay, First we have to deal with the fact that Empoleon beats Blastoise and Feraligatr by the virtue of its learning Grass Knot. Also how it kills Swampert.

And Infernape would beat Charizard into the ground. Its faster than both of them, and use Stone Edge with 4x weakness to screw over Charizard. And Blaziken is just an inferior version of Infernape. Higher base attack stat, but a worse movepool overall. Tough fight, but I'm giving it to Infernape thanks to the higher speed allowing it to get the hits in first.

As for the Grass starters, I completely agree.
