That it made more money. So they could put more effort into Final Fantasy X-2. Which wasn't good, AT ALL, but was way better than fucking X.

How about getting rid of its entirely superfluous sequel?
I'd pay big money to see every copy of X-2 flung into the nearest black hole.

Ironic, I think FFX-2 was way better then FFX, mainly because I didn't have to spend the game with Tidus.

Auron becoming the Protagonist with Tidus' severed head on a pike as a bonus weapon.

I'd remove the story and change the focus of the thing to make it a Blitzball sim with a few little story bits about winning the championship so Grandma can get an operation.

I'm not sure why everyone hates the laughing scene. In context, it's the characters forcing a laugh in a terrible situation. "Fake it til you make it" as the saying goes. Sure, it's awkward to watch, but serves a story purpose.

Change just about everything. Or replace it with FFVI.
That would be nice. Yet like many of the things suggested here it would take just remaking the game.
My suggestion is to substitute the sphere grid with a leveling system, have characters learn new abilities by leveling up, and rebalance the game so that the maximum power that can be achieved is much less, making the superbosses not require days of grinding. I don't know why the gap that separates the power you need for the common bosses and the power required for optional bosses like dark aeons and penace need be so deep and long but my guess is that it extends the gameply time at the expense of player's enjoyment.

For all written dialogue in the game there should be a text box, preferably one that is blue with white borders, that is opaque so the white letters needs not be read against any background color.

All the minigames must be removed and substituted with an apology.

Remove all of the characters, and replace them with FF7 characters. Then, remove the story and replace it with the FF7 story. After that, remove all of the settings and envirnoments and replace them with FF7 settings and environments. Then remove the mechanics and replace them with the FF7 mechanics.

But leave Blitzball.
You were goning so well until that last sentense, Plissken.

BLITZBALL. Not even a second of consideration there.

Yeah, I will actually include the laughing scene in the things that can be thrown out rapidly.
I may very well be alone in this, but I found that scene kind of endearing

Maybe add in a bit more detail about why exactly...uh...

...Why the Hell did Titus have to be sent or whatever the Hell happened?! I'm sure this was explored in X-2 but I haven't played that yet and while I do plan on playing it I'd rather just know what happened with Titus. I fucking cried (a little bit: single manly tear) when Yuna ran through him on the airship in the ending video. I don't like crying unless the ending is unreasonably happy as in FFIX...although it did inspire emotion so there's always that but I want an explanation dammit! Not in another game either!
It tells you what's going on. When you defeat Sin the Fayth (and thereby Aeons) will disappear (In FFX-2 they are only encountered in the Farplane, there are no more summoners), and Tidus is basically just an Aeon.

Quite how he returns in FFX-2's good end is less clear, of course.

I'm sure there are plenty of us around - FFX was the turning point for a lot of people, but from what I hear the games since then have been incrementally worse with each installment. I'm surprised the franchise is still limping along, honestly.
Yeah, I played 10 till the bitter end despite how much the voice acting made my ears bleed. The fact that it's literally impossible to lose against the main boss of the game unless you kill your own party twice put a REALLY foul taste in my mouth. Then I made the mistake of renting 10 part 2....and returned it two hours later. It was then that Final Fantasy was officially dead to me. But I'd argue that 10 wasn't the start of the downhill slide, I'd say it started at 8. A decent enough game except that the entire cast is a bunch of whining emos and the draw-junction system made it way too easy to make your party into gods. 9 was too childish and cartoony for my tastes, got to the 2nd disc and quit. Which, of course, leads into what I said about 10 and 10-2.

But yeah, everything I've heard about the series since I stopped playing leads me to believe that indeed, the series is dead and is just getting raped by Square-Enix like they're a bunch of necrophiliacs looking for more money.

None of that stupid "Enter your own name oh noes the voice acting's gone down the shitter" stuff. Your name is Tidus. Deal with it. Embrace it.

Apart from everything thats usually wrong with a Final Fantasy game as standard, for FFX i would add the ability to skip cutscenes.

Well, I think mine have already been mentioned, but...

Another vote for having everyone refer to Tidus as "Tidus". I know it was a thing to be able to name your own guys for a while, but for Final Fantasy? No. Just doesn't work for me. People are who they are.

Blitzball... I found it frustrating, but mainly because I was crap. The game in Luca I had to hand the controller to someone else to do it, since I just couldn't accomplish anything beyond random flailings. I'm aware quite a few people loved it, and in fact would be quite happy if EA Sports were to release a Blitzball game every year. But it's not for me.

200 lightning bolts can bite me.

And I always had a problem with Kimahri. Didn't like playing him, didn't bother, then had to fight the Ronso solo with him. Yeah, that went well.

Slightly off-topic, I'm going to hold my hands up and say I'm one of those freakish people who really liked XII. I found the open areas with visible mobs a refreshing change from random battles. The gambit system only "played the game for you" if you let it (I love micromanaging things, and it didn't piss me off. I just set up bog standard stuff and switched characters whenever I wanted them to change it up). Balthier was clearly awesome. The politics angle was a nice touch, but could have been taken even further. Vaan... Well yes, I'll concede that Vaan is not Square's finest hour. And Fran was brilliant too, so much so that I made her costume to go to cons in.

And I didn't hate X-2 either, though it's nowhere near my favourite. It was... Different, definitely. Not what I was expecting. I mean, the massage minigame with Leblanc was weird. But I felt that whilst it was fairly girly, I enjoyed the job system. Different strokes for different folks I guess. /shrug

I wouldn't change a thing...it's a great game. Maybe they could expand blitzball a little but other than that it almost a flawless game for me. The characters and voice acting are petty things, the game mechanics work fine and this more than anything is what they need to keep their meddling fingers away from.

In the original beta it was black and his character model was updated so his hood bounced when he ran.

I don't think the games are on a downward spiral, I think we are just judging them to FF7. I have seen loads of people do it and it is annoying. FF7 is one of the best RPGs Square Enix ever made along with Crono Trigger. I mean you just can't top FF7 and ever since Square Enix have started experimenting and some passed some failed. Every FF game is supposed to feel it's own game, so can we all stop nit picking about things FF7 did better.

Actually, if anything, I'm judging the more recent games based off the true "classic" FF's like 4 and 6. I like FF7, sure, but I don't think it was god's gift to gaming, nor do I get a raging hard-on every time someone mentions the name "Sephiroth".

To me - and this plays right into the newest Jimquisition video's message - the best final fantasies were the ones that had to rely on stories and story-telling rather than graphics. It's as though all the bright, colorful images and locations of the more "recent" titles (that is, 8 to present) are to cover up the fact that the stories are crap. Seriously, I felt more emotionally connected with the 32bit sprites in FFs 4 and 6 than I ever did with any character in 7, 8, 9, and 10. You're certainly welcome to your own opinion of the series, mine is that it's been gradually been getting crappier and crappier with each new number, and not just because I think 7 was the holy grail of FF's. I'd say the original FFT for the playstation is actually my favorite FF, with FF 4 coming in a close second, and 6 a very notable 3rd.

FFVI Is my personal favorite for the simple fact you can just pick up and play the game, the plot is not complex and you don't have to be a FF boffin to understand it and well Kafka is an awesome villain, I have to admit FF7 is overrated and it does just feel like a bog standard RPG that has an okay story. I have to agree with you it is getting crappier but none of them have made me want to nail pins in to my face. Well maybe x-2 did....
