if you could erase ONE game from your memory to play it for the first time again...

Second Sight.

I quite enjoyed having it completely explode my brain the first time (I haven't gotten all the stains off the wall yet), and would love for it to do so again.

FF7, possibly Baldur's Gate 2. Strong runner-up being the mass effect franchise (if 3 games count as one game). None of them were great games individually, but the universe they created and characters and races you grew to love over several games was pretty golden.

I'm actually struggling to think of one- because since I get sold on games from little details and effort that you often don't see until you've played for a while- there are very few games that seemed instantly amazing to me.

If I were to play it for the first time now, I'd pick either Mafia: City of Lost Heaven, or TIE Fighter.

Ohh thanks for that.

Yeah, I probably didn't give a proper answer did I?
But the thing is, if you pick one game and for some people that would be their favorite game they played ages ago, you cannot deny that the experience will be different. The original poster did not mention if you could experience the same experience(lolwut?) that you experienced(ok this is getting silly) back when you first played that game.

What I sort of presumed was the fact that we would be playing this particular game right now, with all of the knowledge of other/similar games that would affect our judgement of the particular game, it would undoubtedly make a lot of difference for some people.
Xenoblade and the two Zelda game that I gave as answer were given because I presumed that this was the question he was asking us.
What? No, no, you're post was just fine. You gave valid reasoning on why you would like to go back and replay Xenoblade and Majora's Mask. That's all well and good.

I probably wasn't being clear enough when I said, "This has nothing to do with the thread-". What I should have said is, "My quote on your opinion has nothing to do with this thread and it's contents."

Misunderstanding out of the way, I actually just wanted to say welcome to our humble corner of the interwebz. That's all. :D
Yay. I wasn't being yelled at(got legitimately scared for a sec).

Btw, been having Persona 4 backlogged on my shelf for freakin' ages now. I can either play a game with amazing character development and fantastic story, or I could keep playing Omerta City of Gangster and possibly get the chance of hearing a 1920-30 gangster say "Myah". What do ya think I should do?

Final Fantasy 9, hands down. I remember the feeling I got from playing it for the first time as a kid.

Spreading that 50 hour game over about a month and experiencing everything it had to offer again would just be magical. Final Fantasy 7 can take a backseat with it's angsty characters and brooding tone; I'll take the playful Zidane, the introspective Vivi, and all the other characters any day.

Such an underappreciated game. So happy the TimeSplitters folks made this hidden gem.

I would love to play Silent Hill again, lights off, but now with a good sound system. The terror of your first time in Silent Hill is unique. Especially the very first encounter in the alley... you know what I mean.

Ooooh. That's a tough one. I'd probably say Dragon Age:Origins or Mass Effect. But it is a tough one.

Yeah man, don't worry about it. I got worried at my first quotes too. :)

I've read about Omerta: City of Gangsters. A 1920-30's gangster game with turn-based combat and an RPG system. It sounds like my kind of game. As for P4, well... it's my favoritest game evar, so of course I would recommend that you play it soon. But before you start playing, make sure you have a sizeable chunk of free time. It's a preeeeety long game. I clocked in my first playthrough at exactly 81 hours.

I'd say, for the time being, just keep playing Omerta until you've had your fill. Then play P4. :)

Final fantasy VI. I played that game for more than 200 hours and I know pretty much everything about it. Just thinking of rediscovering the story again for the first time make me shiver

Very tough decision. The ones that are at the forefront, though, would be either Final Fantasy Tactics or Shadow of the Colossus.

With Final Fantasy Tactics I can still at least enjoy the party and battle mechanics, as well as searching for all the secrets and whatnot, but Shadow of the Colossus was an experience that could really only be grasped fully in your first playthrough, so I'mma go with that one. I would kill to feel the same sense of wonder and profound sadness I felt when playing it.

Mass Effect 1 for me. God did I love that game during my first playthrough. Heck I played it another 2 times in the 2~3 weeks after that because I liked it so much.

That, or world of warcraft. It would be awesome to get that sense of wonder back from the first time I started playing it.

It's hard to say, The Walking Dead would be a good choice, except I'd fallen out with it by chapter 5 on a blind run, so it would be a bit of a waste of erase.

I want to say FFX, that game is just so full of mystery on your first playthrough, to learn all the shocks about Yuna and Yevon again would be pretty incredible and it's an all time favourite games. But it was one of the first games I actually fell in love with and more than that, but I fell in love with it with two friends and my brother, so I think my first experiences of it are too precious to erase.

So yeah, I'm struggling to think of other games with a strong mystery vibe. Maybe KotoR2 or Planescape. It could be fun to play Pokemon Yellow for the very first time again and relearn all the types etc, but I'd still have memories of Gold so that would screw it all up. Same problem with the Uncharted franchise, as much as I'd like to get the wow again. Also those games are pretty wow without having to be forgotten.

The shock of Katawa Shoujo -Hanako would be lovely to experience for the first time again, but that was an important life lesson and I can't really be doing with forgetting about that.

So probably comes down to KotoR2 or Planescape. I want more to experience KotoR2 for the first time again, but I've put a lot of hours into that game in many many playthroughs and it seems a shame to lose all that. But Planescape has a bad middle section, and if I didn't remember how fantastic the games was and how to just run through the middle section, I might get stalled and have never finished the game.

...I'll go for Uncharted 2. I love the game but I don't have strong memories of individual playthroughs to lose, my only firm memory is playing the game at Christmas and whilst I enjoy that memory, I can happily forget it so that I can reexperience the awe of all the amazing moments in that game

I'd like to reexperience Dark Souls and Mario 3. My god, those games were fucking sweet. Mario 3 in particular, as I want to feel the magic of the game that got me into gaming. It isn't the same when you have an idea of what to expect. Same with Dark Souls.

Due to this thread, today I have realized that I am a masochist in gaming. I hope I continue to be. :)
