I'd choose pokemon. Probably one of the few universes where you don't have to be the chosen one/generic hero/superhero/supergenius/god/a one man army to get anywhere

I would love to be able to clap my hands and change anything to anything else. And I'd give up my right arm and left leg to do it, provided I get some automail pretty soon. From Fullmetal Alchemist, by the way.
But aren't Alchemists all part of an elite gifted group? Aren't you not guaranteed to be the stalwart hero of the land, or even anyone great, for the matter?

OT: Burnout. I would love living my life as a mass-murdering sentient car. That murders other cars.

What? They never had any drivers...

The Kingdom Hearts Universe.

It seems like your chances of getting killed are slim (being a Disney game and all), you'd get to meet Final Fantasy Characters, and possibly travel to various Disney worlds. Happiness and sunshine, and protection from "The Darkness" by a little kid and Donald and Goofy. Yup, Kingdom Hearts it is.
yeah that and ofcourse the chanse to get a keyblade is always awesome.

Cyrodil, then I'd commit a crime and ask for a VERY SPECIFIC CELL on the Imperial Prison. I might get to meet the Emperor. [small]Just sayin'.[/small]

Maybe join a Brotherhood that lies in the Dark. Or a Guild in which the leader has no name and everyone inside it is a Thief.

Of course, I'll get bored eventually and move to another place, a colder one, to the North. With Dragons. I heard November is a great month to hire a moving service.

The Peggle universe. It looks trippy but not dangerous.

Or maybe the Asscree universe: just like our world but with cooler conspiracy theories.

While you're not guaranteed to be the EPIC HERO of the world, there's also no guarantee that you wouldn't be. Personally, if I were dropped on to Azeroth, there'd be a really, REALLY strong chance I'd be motivated in to becoming a Mage. The people that hang back and give out quests are the people that have to be there in order for there to be a society worth protecting.

It seems to me that in games like that, or Pokemon, it's not about how you were born, but rather how you decided to live. Timmy the blacksmith was a pansy, and Venjamin the Shadow Priest wasn't too much of a ***** to go out and work to getting to badass levels of power.

The difference comes between the real world, where work may or may not actually grant you ANYTHING. I'm not inspired to get out and do amazing things because doing those things may ultimately be meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I can work hard fixing laptops like I do, but that doesn't get me anything but a paycheck. In a world like Amestris ( to use another example ) ANYONE can be an Alchemist, or even a State Alchemist if the -work hard enough- or in some cases, are willing to sacrifice enough to get it.

Deconstruction only applies in worlds like Devil May Cry, where the people who are important are that way because they were born in to it. Sure, you get bad-ass normals like Lady, but who really wants to play a game about Lady, and not Dante?

EDIT: Because I forgot, I'd probably want to go somewhere like Azeroth. Maaaaybe some other super sandbox world where you're not the Named Protagonist.

Mass effect but i would want to live to be 20 before the whole ordeal with the reapers.

or be a sim on of those simcity games. A sim coming home from work one days,"hmm, i dont remember this 10 story building being here where my house use to be... OH MY GOD THERE'S A TORNADO EARTHQUAKE FIRE GIANT ROBOT ALIEN INVASION ATTACK!" There's never a boring moment when you're a sim.

or the fallout universe

Now see, you all assume you would be one of the heroes and not the NPC's :D
This is the problem with asking "what world would you live in"? No one ever realizes that there can only be a few stalwart heroes of the land. Besides, most of you would be the first people to die in the event of whatever apocalyptic event was coming. Either that or the NPC that gets shot down or run over because he won't get out of the fucking way, or the stalwart hero decides to be a dick.

That said, if I could be in any video game world and I was guaranteed a fairly decent amount of power and intelligence, I'm going to say that I keep leaning toward the Elder Scrolls.

Or, and it counts because there were games made that take place there, Amestris. I would love to be able to clap my hands and change anything to anything else. And I'd give up my right arm and left leg to do it, provided I get some automail pretty soon. From Fullmetal Alchemist, by the way.
Even dying in most fictional worlds is pretty awesome. None of this anticlimactic shit like in real life. You always have some epic backstory and somehow have connections to some seedy element and go out in a blaze of fury. Also, theres some stupid tenancy in fiction to get laid by the hottest girl in the story before you die. Sign me up already sounds better than my day to day life.
You're not guaranteed to be the stalwart hero of the land, or even anyone great In fact, you're probably going to be some regular ol' joe, just like you are here. You would probably be leading a simiar boring life if you were somehow just transported to a different world.

Understand what I'm saying?
Yea I perfectly understand your not that impressive concept. It's called deconstruction and although some people think it's interesting, its biggest flaw is people who are fans of deconstruction go too far and are just as unrealistic as that which they are deconstructing. You honestly believe it wouldn't be interesting to live in the Psychonauts universe?! The least interesting characters in psychonauts is still cooler than anyone I've ever met.

My point was living in a world of fiction even the "normal" people are incredibly interesting. You realize there are no real heros irl. People the media trys to make good or bad, but almost never are there individual people who radically change the course of history by themselves.

That happens every goddamn day in fiction. Even if I'm not a hero, being a martyr, degenerate soul or even just an onlooker in a fictional world would be entertaining as fuck.
Fine. But there are still regular people in fiction. Like the guys in the background? That never speak?

Anyway, if you're fine with being a regular old fellow, that doesn't bother me. You don't need to get all offensive, but you quoted me and what you wrote illustrated that you had completely missed the point I was making. That's why I quoted you back and wrote as if you didn't even read what I had said before. You didn't even give a counterpoint.

Also, no real heroes - we are talking about fiction. Luke Skywalker, Edward Elric, Samus Aran, Gordon Freeman, Sonic the Hedgehog, those guys aren't real heroes?

EDIT: And before you go saying I didn't pay attention to what you said, I did - look at the first sentence!
Seriously work on your reading comprehension skills. That edit didn't change the fact you inherently don't see the arguments.

The base of your argument is that being in a fictional world wouldn't be as cool as I think it is cause I'm not a hero. Pointing that out didn't actually add anything to the thread because the op implied you'd still be you in another universe.

My counterpoint was that you'd still be you, but fiction is full of interesting set pieces. That's the strongest difference between fiction and nonfiction is that someone purposefully creates every character. So, I'd assume I'd play a part in the story or game unless the author is really shit and puts in pointless characters.

Your next edit was that I have literally no relevance in that universe. Even so any universe I would choose psychonauts for a game discworld for a book. I'd pick because there are A. different universal laws like magic and B. interesting people. Both of which I have access to even as a nobody.

I'm not having a problem understanding your point because you don't really have one.

Hmmmmmm.....

Hyrule is the first to come to mind, although I could go for Star Wars or Star Trek (I want a holodeck and replicators)

Nosgoth might work (if I got turned into a high ranking vampire...with WINGS)

If I really had to choose, I would be a Bender in the Avatar realm

..I want to fly and have magical sword fights mid-air, damnit!

Or Star Trek: TNG. I love the future.

Do not insult my reading comprehension skills. I understood every word you said, and my counterpoint - indeed, my original point, if you had paid attention - was that if you were suddenly transported to a different world, you would still be yourself. Your boring old self. You would have to learn all those skills and powers that you wanted. Granted, it would be interesting at first - actually, it would probably be a bit of a culture shock - but eventually it would probably return to waking up in the morning, doing the mundane tasks of the day, and then going to bed. You could work to become a traveling do-everything, know-everything, powerful being like in Oblivion, if you wanted to. However, you would still start out as a nobody. If you don't see, or don't want to see, what I'm saying, then stop bothering me.

You picked the argument with me, then you tried to insult me as I told my point again and again. Yours is that even if you were a mundane person, you would still be in a more interesting world than you have here. Psychonauts, as you said, would be more interesting than life is here. I got that. I understood every word.

We are at a disagreement. I am done. I meant no insult to you, and you insulted me. Please don't fucking quote me again.[/quote]

If you don't want a response than you can't make the last point. Saying I chose to end the argument when I wrote back is narcissistic bullshit. You can chose to end an online conversation or get the last word never both.

Seriously no offense intended. I'm gonna try to right this neutrally as possible. Your saying I'm still me. I'm aware; I like being me.

However, in fiction there is a literal hand of god guiding the world into having more interesting situations and people than the real world could ever support. You could argue that bad authors can make boring worlds, but going back to the op you get to pick your universe so thats not a problem. You think it'd be boring being a side character. I'm not exactly the person who sits on the sidelines.

If you are then yea theres no point in being in a more interesting world if your not experiencing it. It's just annoying that anyone could argue that being in a fictional world wouldn't be kickass.

It's like arguing living forever wouldn't be awesome. The sheer number of doors that open up is too much for you to comprehend to even pass judgement. I see my argument as it's different I wanna try it and your saying it's different it must suck.

Worst case scenario you end up in another world and you live a life very similar to yours only surrounded by characters you got to choose. Best case scenario you get to live out your fantasy. Who wouldn't want either?
