If I just need a few more trophies to get the platinum then I do that on the easiest setting. I don't feel guilty because if I'm going for the platinum in a game, I've had to beat it on the hardest difficulty anyway.

Exactly the same thing happened to me with my first playthrough as a mage. I used to dread long dungeons due to the fact that my mage was really weak for its level, and I didn't like to use potions. In the end, I ended up with over 100 strong health/magicka restore potions before finally returning the slideback down to normal.Rossmallo said:

Generally I like to hold out for the ultra pussy mode unlock but I have no problems playing on Hard if it actually adds something to the game other than turning my character into a squishy.

While I realize I'm not the most fantastic person ever at playing games, I can usually manage fairly well. If a game is actually fun to play, I'll usually wind up playing it on the hardest difficulty I can manage.
Usually when I turn the difficulty DOWN, it's because I'm not having fun playing the higher difficulty, either because the game is tedious and repetitive or "higher difficulty" translates to "shoot it 50 billion more times but nothing else is different".
I like games where higher difficulty requires a higher skill/knowledge level rather than just 50 billion extra button presses.

I play on the easiest proper setting, that is to say, I would play on easy if it was between easy medium and hard, but if there was like really easy mode or something then I wouldn't play on that

IT varies but most games I'll probs go with hard as my logic is I beat both ninja gaiden games on hard (not master.. I'm human so I can't)so I can take aything. But I will chage diificulty in only 2 circumstances 1) The difficulty is just annoying not hard for example shao 'fucking' Kahn in mortal kombat 9. 2)If its boring as I play both dragon ages on casual as otherwise every fight takes half an hour and I lose interest
I never feel ashamed to play on whatever difficulty I feel like. If that's easy then so what? Games are meant to be enjoyed and seeing as I don't give a damn about achievements or trophies I play on the difficulty that will bring me the most enjoyment out of the game. Then again this is almost universally the second hardest level. That seems to be my comfortable middle spot.

Feeling ashamed over playing on easy, nope. I mostly start a game on normal and depending what happens play around on the difficult settings. Some games have moments that I just can't see the fun over dying 100 times over just 'cus I mist one of the small moments. But the opposite can also do when enemies are to easy and I just go straight on moving them down in say a tactical shooter I've raised it to hardest... and I don't feel like I miss out.

Depends on the game, for example if its an open world game like Elder Scrolls or Fallout then I will gladly play on easy--I rarely play any of the Fallouts or Elder Scrolls for challenge I play them because I want to go along for a nice ride through typically amazing scenery and just have fun doing what I please in the sandbox world; and in the case of Fallout I want to be able to just take a chance to revel in the destruction and interesting characters just trying to survive that have been laid before me.
On the flip-side however I will usually never play a shooter or old school action game on easy because I am playing those for the sole reason of wanting a challenge I don't pop in Call of Duty to experience/explore war story that will change my life, I pop it in for some gun toting fast paced action which you can typically only get on normal or hard.
Minecraft is another good example of this--I play on peaceful when I just feel like building something cool and I will play on normal the rest of the time.

I think a game that presents a tactical challenge is more fun. Being invincible and walking though the game isn't fun for me.TestECull said:

I also just wanted fun gameplay and a story and couldn't be arsed with anything higher.

I play on the difficulty that I enjoy the most, and that difficulty varies from game to game. I used to play L4D on Expert, back when I played everyday, but now I only play Advanced. However, I always start on easy in strategy games, shortly before getting my ass kicked by the weakest AI. Recently I have begun to start on Normal and then change the difficulty. However, no matter how hard the game is, I always play on a setting that does not withhold gameplay content
I never game to impress, so absolutely not. Besides, games are less fun when you constantly die/fail when you're still sort of new to it.
I always play on Normal mode unless I can proceed to steamroll through it, in which case I'll bump it up bit by bit. However, I've never played any game on the absolute Hardest setting, but that could be because I've never been interested in a game long enough to want to. Most games I replay get played maybe once every 2-5 years, and by then I typically forget enough about the game that the story feels somewhat fresh, that I can view it through new eyes, and most importantly that I don't know exactly what's coming every second of every minute of gameplay.
