Playing Crysis 2, I was on the Third Pinger, these guys are infuriating, not only that but I spent the entire level getting blindsided by the Ceph guys. I was Also out of C4 and couldnt reach the machine gun.

about 300 deaths later I reduced the difficulty just to get past this guy, my thinking, I have killed this guy 20 mins ago, this is tedious, I just wanna get to going for the main guys

and, I found that the difficulty gradient is ridiculously steep and uneven and was stuck killing Blind Mannequin for the rest of the game - Gamer hell

I'll start at normal and adjust if I feel as nessacary. Which means the next time I play DA:Origins, I'm going to play on Easy because I'm sick of getting Gang-raped at every single encounter.

i generally just play on easy or normal, its not a big deal to me i dont care what people think. If i wanted a challenge id go play one of the 1000's of PvP based games that put up at least as much challenge if not more than most of today's games.

I usually try to play through on Normal difficulty first, but I feel no shame if I have to drop down to Easy. Sometimes I'll play through on Easy first just to get a feel for the game and if it's good enough, I'll play through again on a higher difficulty setting.

I'm playing New Vegas right now on very easy, I can play on normal but it's more frustrating than on very easy :). I play Oblivion on a little above normal difficulty though. Come to think of it I only play Fallout on Very Easy.

I sort of do feel a bit ashamed actually, haha. Well, not ashamed per sé but we're on the right track there. Anyroad, I tend to play on Easy mode for my first playthrough so I can get through it no bother and to get used to the controls, figure out what I'm doing exactly etc.
I guess it also prepares me for the more difficult modes to some extent.

not at all. in fact, i normally play on easy. i find that i enjoy myself more when i'm not dying/being overrun every 15 seconds.

Sure, if i like a game a lot then i'll go back and play through on higher difficulties. But almost never on a first playthrough.

Some games were designed to be played on the hardest difficulty such as halo. But quite often the harder difficulty was an afterthought and all the enemies simply have more health and incredibly unrealistic accuracy, ammo, damage, etc.

I will play on the hardest difficulty if it makes the game better. But not if it just turns into endless grinding.

I love me a game that does difficulty right but I loathe games that just increase the health of all enemies, to me its the easy way out for the developers.

i play it on easy for the story. if i like it enough i trun up the difficulty to harder and harder modes. if i dont like it why should i make my first run through hard. if i do i have no problem ramping up the difficulty

I just play video games for fun, so whatever setting is the funniest for me is what I play on which varies from game to game.

Yes. Sometimes. Especially when I KNOW I can actually play it on Normal or Hard, but I just... can't be bothered.

Civ V is an example: While I can win on Prince difficulty or higher, if I lose I'll create a new game and put the difficult on settler and then just steam roll the incredibly stupid A.I. It's shameful really - a 5 year old could win on Settler difficulty.

I usually do a normal run, then if I want to replay it I'll chose a new difficulty for the next playthrough.

Nope. I don't feel ashamed at all. I fully accept that I am a lousy gamer 8'D
That and I'm more interested in the story 8D

Play on easy for the story first, play on hard later for the challenge to make sure I'm awesome.

Its not so much that anyone can win on settler-- its that the player can't really LOSE. I guess you could forget to build your first city and try to explore with your starting guys.

I always start on the lower difficulties, then jump to possibly the highest to get achievements then will go mid to easy for later runs because it feels more fun to me when I'm more powerful than the enemy. I don't like being repeatedly slaughtered by a game. It may be challenging but after about 7 deaths I just want it to be over and will adjust difficulty accordingly once I've beaten it.
