Hey, given the circumstances, I'd take up arms join the invading force.

What? I never claimed to be a moral or upstanding individual. Quite frankly, I'm a filthy coward. And, besides, I've always wanted to be part of some nebulous evil organisation. Villains are just so cool! And they always have spiffier uniforms. So screw home defence; I'm switching sides.

I don't understand your logic. America is the last place any invading country want to invade. It's a death trap. They won't make it past 5 miles into the USA without getting slaughter.

In the USA there is over 100 millions gun owners with over 300 millions firearms. In other words the USA have more than enough firearms in private hand for every citizens.

You have millions of ex military, law enforcements, trained civilians that pay thousands of dollars to get the best training that money can buy (better than the US military), etc. that will take up arms the first sniff of invasion. To them it's like a dream come true.

Israel has been invaded so many times (at least six off the top of my head) and by so many countries (sometimes at the same time) that ur armies and security agencies can pretty much handle it also since military service is mandatory (except for a minority who weasel out of it) I would be obligated to defend the country anyway so...

But I'm thinking about joining the military anyway so sure, I guess I'd join in the defense of my countries borders.

I find it funny that everyone here is "ready to defend their country" and yet they've got no idea what war is really like and when it comes to weapons at least 90% of you have no idea how to use one. And about recruitment? Unless you go through military training be ready to be cannon fodder.

Naw, who wants to invade Australia anyway? If our land isn't wreathed in flame, then that's pretty much a guarantee that it's underwater. The only bits that aren't are in the desert, and that place is a fucking death trap.

Well, I might be exaggerating slighty. Australia is pretty cool, but I can't imagine who'd invade us. We have close trading links with China, and house a large number of people from that very country. We're involved in a mutual defence agreement with the United States, and are a damned sight better with other religious groups than America is.

If on the off chance we were invaded though, I'd just sit around and do nothing. Unless the invaders were incredibly oppressive, the standard of life probably wouldn't drop too much, and I can't imagine resisting would make things any better.

Basically if they hit the capital cities then we could be taken over, though I dont think the country would be very easy to overrun with the harsh climiate and its sheer size, it would be easy to hide out in the bush, mabye even do a little gurella warfare like they do in the books

I enjoyed those books as a kid, but looking back the writer has absolutely no idea about logistics, invading Australia would be cripplingly difficult because of supply issues even before any resistance is considered.

As a Brit, I can feel safe in the knowledge that noone has invaded our country for just under 100 years. There are three reasons for this:
1. There is a magical object called the English Channel which acts as a wonderful way to stop people just walking into the country.
2. Who seriously wants to have Britain? The weather is awful, which would cause all the invaders to get depressed and go home.
3. Finally - three words STEALTHY BRITISH NINJAS. You may be thinking "what ninjas?" well, if you could see them it would be kind of counter-productive.

Anywho... on topic response is dependant as many have said before on the invading force. If Britain was ever to become a dictorship *cough*Tories*cough* then any democracy can come on in. However, if your just a nutter with an army who wants to have some land, try somewhere else, like, I don't know.... Antartica?

If pressed for an answer, I would say: "I will fight for my Queen and my country. For the tea and the pinstriped suited buisnessmen I would fight for *INSERT STEREOTYPE*"

Just kidding. The royal family would be the first to leave the country in an invasion so fighting for them is not worth it. However, no-one desecrates my tea. NO-ONE.


TL;DR - The ninjas are everywhere, yes I would fight but only if someonetries to take my cup of tea....

Would you really have a choice? I mean, I have no idea about any policy concerning this, but I always assumed that when a country gets invaded, pretty much all young, able men would get drafted.
Personally, I'd prefer to not join the army, because I think that I would not be able to make a big difference amongst thousands of other mooks. And being untrained (up until then), I would probably not be very valuable to the army and so I suspect my battalion(?) would probably be the first to be sent out as canon fodder. No thanks!
I do like my country though (The Netherlands), so given a good opportunity I like to think that I would act on it, but then again, I'm no murderer, so I might have some trouble doing that.

You have to remember that it wouldn't be hard to just napalm the areas outside of what they take over, since theres nothing worth preserving out in the barrens anyway.

No, it wouldn't be hard, it'd be outright impossible. You simply cannot casually destroy an area greater than western Europe like that.

With regards to invading Australia...to conquer it you'd have to simultaneously hold Sydney and Perth. Forget all the other places for a moment, you have to hold two cities on different sides of the continent.

(As an aside, white settlement of Australia wasn't an invasion. Given that there were several hundred different aboriginal groups, it should count as several hundred seperate invasions, or none. And unfortunately, without any form of writing, we know nothing about the conflicts between different groups over the last 50,000 odd years of successive migration. Australia missed on on several thousand extra public holidays due to this.)

With regards to invading the US, Israel, the UK, France or any other nuclear capable nation...nuclear capable nations just don't get invaded. Long before it gets to that stage they stop existing as what we'd call a nation state.

Here the thing about invading froce. You want to stop them right away. Prevent them from getting resupplies and logistical routs. If they can't feed and supply their forces, they will be taken apart easily.

Invading a country is very risky because
1. You're outnumbered
2. You risk of running out of supplies

The US military have the best logistical network in the world. The majority of US military is dedicated to supplying a very small percentage of fighting forces. No other countries is able to do what we can.

I'm from Northern Ireland. If its the South that invade us, I'd probably be annoyed. We are already often called Irish when abroad and then there will be a terrible Irish accent saying "Top of the Mornin' to ya."

If it was the British, I'd be very angry. But don't worry, its not like British soldiers would ever patrol streets of Northern Ireland...

To be fair the British are already in charge of us. And I think that they were right to send in the troops at first. NI was a mess. I just think that they shouldn't have shot unarmed protestors, oh and shouldn't have imprisoned people without trial.


But no one would want to invade us, or we'd make trouble.

As an Australian who has never even held a gun let alone fired one- I'd take the SOE route and flee to New Zealand, train up to buggery there with New Zealand commandoes, and then slip back into Australia with a small team under cover of darkness one foggy night...

I shall not surrender to any invading army, unless they happen to be more beneficial and enlightening than the powers ruling the UK, whatever future parliament that might be..

I'd mostly rather die than live under a foreign dictatorship.. then again, if it was in the interest of creating a united human empire then I might be willing to go along with it, for the 'Greater Good' and all that..

EDIT: I may have a small problem in that I'm a pacifist, so hopefully the enemy will get sick from killing too many people and just give up and go home..
