[IGN]Top Five Reasons Dark Souls Will Eat Skyrim's Face

The fact that the #1 was that Skyrim has no multiplayer leads me to believe that the IGN article was written by someone who has no appreciation for the art in video games. This person misses the point of single player games, is to be in a new world, and not have strangers drop in and fuck shit up.

Wow, talk about comparing apples to oranges. Both games are going to be good, but you really can't compare the two with generalized sweeping statements.

Children, children. Let us be calm. For these are the OPINIONS of ONE PERSON. Breathe in, breathe out. Buy the game of your choosing. This WILL NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT cause all copies of Skyrim to burst into flames.

Dry your eyes, lovelies. Everything will be okay.

Oh dear god, nice to see IGN comparing apples to oranges. The two games are conceptually very different to the point where you can't make sweeping generalizations to compare the two. Sounds like they're trying to rile up the fanboys.

I played both at EuroGamer only yesterday and Dark Souls is just pure dogshite. Oh, but you don't get it, it's supposed to be hard! Oh really, in opposed to fun?

Yep, that's how it goes these days, replacing innovation with just absolutely destroying the whole aspect of playing video games!

Hee, I love these "X will blow up Y" articles, because they are usually just flamebait to generate more traffic. That's why I didn't even click on the link, there, won't give them this pleasure.

I'll buy Skyrim and Dark Sous. Both should prove to be great titles in their own right.

In case you ever thought IGN was in any way a valid source of news or stories, we can now definitively show that its writers need to be fired... out of a cannon and into the sun.

That's pretty bad. I'm surprised an editor didn't immediately veto that story.

Ergh...

That article was talking like Dark Souls was some undiscovered indie game. Bullshit it is. It's mainstream as games come and reads like something IGN was paid to write.

Also, as everyone has already pointed out, every point in favour of Dark Souls is either incorrect, contestable or equally applies to Skyrim.

Whatever. I'll take the game where I can be a backstabbing Wood Elf thief.

Badly written article. Even though I do think Dark Souls will be a better game (for me personally) the article is pig headed and goes about all the wrong arguements except the one about the core gameplay, fighting in Demons Souls was infintintely better than Oblivion imo.

I think Dark Souls is going to be a better game becuase of a more solid and driven gameplay experience unlike Elder Scrolls games which require the player to really SEARCH for the challenges rather than just being presented with them non-stop like Demons/Dark Souls. Some people prefer the exploration factor and some prefer a direct experience (not to be confused with linearity)

One of the biggest letdowns in Oblivion for me was creating a massive world and filling it with an uninteresting culture and a dialogue system that didn't give your character any personality. These things matter in a true Role Playing Game, see the Fallout series or Planescape Torment for how to make an interesting world through dialogue and character. Meanwhile Demons Souls didn't even bother with a dialogue system instead focussing on being a game defined by action and doing that really well instead of making a social/sneaking/combat RPG and not excelling in some of those areas. To me Oblivion lacked focus instead trying to cater to everything.

Comparing Dark Souls and Skyrim just because they have swords and magic etc is akin to comparing Star Wars with The Terminator because they both have robots. Each game goes in drastically different directions and caters to very different tastes, comparing the two is almost pointless because they're not supposed to be alike but one can always have a preference.

Final Note: Both games look absolutely brilliant and while Dark Souls is tingling my tastebuds more I can't wait to play Skyrim either so I'll be buying both and having lots of fun.

They're completely different games, you can't really compare them.

I loved Demon Souls and Oblivion equally, both brilliant games but for completely different reasons. I'm pretty sure the same will apply for Dark Souls and Skyrim too.

I read this article yesterday and knew the Skyrim fanboy reaction would be pretty funny. All the people complaining about the multiplayer clearly didn't play Demon's Souls or even read the article to notice that multiplayer is very much non-traditional.

The DLC is an interesting point. While I don't think Bethesda are cutting anything out of Skyrim to use as DLC, the fact that they're already planning what the DLC will be before they've finished the boxed game is kind of irritating.

Also, I'm going to have to take the position of Dark Souls having better dragons. From what I've seen of each game so far, Dark Souls has better character design than Skyrim. Plus, the idea of random dragon encounters is neat at first, but when you think about it, they're giving us an infinite number of random encounter boss fights.

Multiplayer

Just to make it clear, I'm playing devil's advocate here, but I do think some of the arguments are ridiculous. That said, if I can get a PS3, I shall be buying Dark Souls. It sounds like a great game.
It's coming out on 360 too.
This article is by one person and judging from all of the other Skyrim articles IGN has mad, I'd say he's completely alone in his opinion.

I stopped caring when it was revealed that their number one reason was that Skyrim didn't have multiplayer. Skyrim has a tried, tested and loved formula that shouldn't change, Dark Souls doesn't have that formula and it's working on it's own.

I believe it was the Editor and Chief who wrote it so he probably didn't want to fire himself. He was obviously a Dark Souls fan-boy and didn't like that all of his underlings were raving about how awesome Skyrim would be in their articles.

Okay, this article is ridiculous. Not because I'm an Elder Scrolls fanboy (I'm not; I could never get into Oblivion), but because its seemingly written by a Dark Souls fanboy writing on a forum. There is nothing intelligent about dividing games into categories and then declaring Dark Souls the winner of everything. It just makes you look stupid. Well done, IGN.

The One Reason That Skyrim Will Pulverize Dark Souls (Awesome First Letter Caps)

1. IT COMES OUT ON PC.
