lots of people think that cartoons are meant for children and always have been.
one time i said "when cartoons were being printed they were meant for adult entertainment, I mean look at betty boop i doubt she was meant for children"
they were silenced in a moment. BAM!

Story of me being ignorant:
I used to be quite ignorant of the Harry Potter series. My mother checked out the first book and forced me to read it. I rebelled so much she punished me until I finished the whole thing. Despite the fact it was in the genre I liked and it was constantly recommended to me, I outright refused to read them.

This summer I got to go to Universal Studios in Orlando, and I'm sure most of you know of the recent area made, "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter." Throughout my time there, I became more interested in the story, and by the time I left, I told my family I'd try it out.

Lo and behold, when I went to DR after that, my mother had left the first book at my Grandmother's house. Read it, loved, it, had nothing else to read, so I read through it about three more times. I am currently reading the seventh and last book, Deathly Hallows, and have just watched the first movie. The same happened with the movie "Avatar" and many foods I've tried out.

Story of someone else being ignorant. NOTE this might offend catholics:

I used to go to a catholic school. Whoops, let me correct myself; it was an extremist catholic school. RELIGION MUST DOMINATE YOUR LIFE HERE!!!!11!! PRAYING COMES BEFORE EATING! YOU CAN GO WITHOUT FOOD!!! YOU CANNOT GO WITHOUT PRAYER!!!!

Back on track. I heard a few girls talking bad about Obama, how he isn't fair and everything. What caught my attention was when one said "And he's for abortion." I asked them what it meant, as I didn't know back then. I got "It's when you kill a baby before it's born." I replied I thought it wouldn't be bad as long as it was early; if possible, have the baby, but if it interfered with you life, then I thought it justified. They IMMEDIATELY began telling me "It's still a life" and "what if your mother aborted you?"

Later that day, they brought me the school newspaper. It had a picture of three kids holding signs that said "Abortion is bad." They told me "see? This is proof abortion is bad." I thought, "So I can write on a sign that shitting is another form of birth, and that would be proof?" So these people thought Obama was horrible because he was pro-choice. Just as a note, I am pro-choice myself. They even had a rally at that school while I was there, protesting abortion. If I wasn't surrounded by catholics, I would have facepalmed.
Ah yes, Harry Potter. The first books I ever read just for the enjoyment. I'm glad you like them, but the last one is a little....odd.

One of my friends hates anime. I would respect his opinion a LOT more if he didn't add that he liked Pokemon because "it's not anime."

Also my brother. Let me put it you this way. If an anime's not Death Note, DBZ, FMA, Rurouni Kenshin, or Bleach, and if a video game isn't Tekken, God of War, or Resident Evil (after 4), he automatically assumes it must suck.

Ex: Uncharted 2 - He hasn't even touched the controller with the game in our PS3 and he thinks it sucks!

Oh god, where to start.

Well, gaming fanboys for one. We all have that one friend.

I think what pisses me off the most is when people dismiss my taste in music because it's instrumental (for the most part). I'm sorry, instruments speak 1000x stronger than words. Especially modern music. Geez.

Christ, where do I begin?

I know some really...really...REALLY stupid fucking people, the cream of the crop out of all the people we point at and go "Dumbass". Naturally, this adds to them being completely ignorant of anything outside of their little box. You know what I can't stand? When one of these mental midgets has the gall to claim that I've done or said something stupid. Seriously, when all you do is spout shit and talk out of your ass like an arrogant prick who thinks they know everything, exactly what sort of opinion do you have for me when everyone can see you're just faffing about like a moron?!

*Calms down*

I'm sorry. I hate dumb people. And while I make the effort to have an informed opinion backed with information, nuance, and clever wit...I come across these people who shit all over everything, hold it up, and call it gold. So yes, I know ignorant fools. Opinions can be had, but I won't accept an idiots point of view as word of god no matter how he paints it, not unless the hand of god itself comes streaming down from the sky and gives the thumbs-up...or he can prove it. (Even then, being right AND a jackass isn't a good combination.)

My brother dismisses anything with bad graphics/effects as just plain bad.

Pretty much every one in my school hates anime and thinks it's even nerdier than video games just because they see commercials for Naruto and decide that anime is "gay".

I know people who think that every game besides the Call of Duty series and the Halo series is "gay". I also know people who refuse to play games that have bad graphics, they are also the same people who wont watch a movie if its not in HD. Then there is me who wont play JRPG'S because I dont like the art style. Thats the same reason I dont watch anime I dont like the art style.

Trying to explain Anime in general is annoying, but it goes to a whole new level when you have to explain the concept of this:
Trust me.
What's even worse is when I have to explain my desktop background to people...
It doesn't help when I tell them I find it "touching"...

I generally hate people who dismiss things as being too "mainstream". Some mainstream things are bad, but sometimes popular things are popular for a reason, indie kids.

Oh anime ignorance, how I loathe thee. People who think anime is all just childish Pokemon bullshit drive me crazy. No matter how many times I try to explain how some anime can get to a level so much deeper than Western television (like Monster for example, you wouldn't get shit like that on our TVs) they dismiss it as being "childish" just cause it's animated. And yet they watch shows like Family Guy! I don't understand it.

I also cannot stand people who might hear one fact on a topic, and are so convinced they're right they won't listen to reason from a person who actually is an expert on the subject.

I have a friend that had never heard of Demon's Souls. I borrowed it so we could play it on his system one afternoon, as my friends and I usually link up on Friday nights to play video games. I ask him if he had ever heard of it, no, if he wants to play and he says, "No, I don't like the sound of that game." I ask him why, "It just doesn't sound like a game I would like to play." This happens with basically every game we introduce to the guy(RE5, Valkyria Chronicles, Freedom Fighter, Soul Calibur, Battlefront 2, and onwards. ) He has to see people actually playing the game and enjoying themselves before sitting down to play, and if he loses just once, he throws the game down and says he doesn't like it.

I spent 3.5 hours at TVtropes once.

Yeah, I have a female friend who is exactly like Eric Cartman. I tollerate her because we pretty much have the exact same taste in entertainment & she actually returns what she borrows. She's a mormon & I'm athiest, so that topic is off limits for argument.

Strongly agree with instrumental music. It's just about all I listen to, but barely anyone else seems to.
Actually the very same person I mentioned in the original post doesn't like instrumental music because "there's barely any emotion in it".
