I do this in every game ever. RE4 in particular was pretty bad for me. I used as little ammo as possible, spending most of the game shooting guys in the knee and kicking them over and over again. I had so much ammo for the last boss, and you can't even really use it on him.

Anywho, the question is, what are some moments in gaming you've had something and thought to yourself "I'll need it later" when there really isnt anything that you will need it for later?

All the time.

I'm still trying to train myself out of the bad habit of hoarding anything that might be in short supply.

Everything from FPSs, where I hardly ever use grenades/explosives which are normally in short demand, through to Fallout 1 and 2 where I'm currently sitting on a stockpile of ammo, that if it weren't in the boot of my car, would take up all my wieght capacity before even hoisting a weapon. Everytime I look in my car and see those two thousand shotgun shells I feel a bit guilty that I haven't even used a shotgun. Or the 4.7mm caseless ammo, that I'll never use the Vindicator in fear of running out of ammo for it (the irony).

Hell, even in things like WoW groan: I know) I don't even use Cooldowns without being prompted, despite them simply being on a, well, cooldown...

I blame it on previous save files in the '90s being ruined by losing/running out of certain items. Anything that I can't scavenge back immediately simply doesn't get used.

This weekend I took my first steps to healing this psychological scar though! I actually equipped and loaded the Gauss Pistol in FO2!

Of course, I didn't actually shoot anything, but its a first step!

Basically any game that has an inventory. Here's a tip if you're playing Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth: you'll lose your weapons twice, so just use the damn Tommy Gun.
My most recent example is from last week when I replayed Dark Messiah. I never used a single Magic Mushroom (which replenishes all your life and mana - but just who the hell came up with the concept?) until the final boss fight, when I had 19 of them (20 is max). In that fight I ended up using three of them, even though I could probably have managed with potions. I knew it was the last fight, and I wanted to use the bloody things...

Strangely, i have that even for ammo.

Ill try to down every foe with as few shots as possible, reload every shot (and thats pretty rich on a machine gun) and make sure im fully stocked always.

Call me obsessive but at least i never run out of ammo.

Pretty much ever game i have ever played.
I even annoy myself with it..
However if i think fuck it, use one of my super items.. there is usually something bigger around the corner..

I saved my mini nukes and not soon after that I sold it to make room in my inventory.

Just so you know, Mini-Nukes like all ammo are weightless.
So there is no need to sell them for inventory space as technically, they don't take any up.

Non weightless ammo mod, and either way I sold my launcher aswell.

you could be damn sure I got into the final fight of doom 3 with full BFG ammo and never saved after a sequence in games like max payne if I didn't have full painkillers/healthpacks. So as said before only not use the standard machine gun if there isn't a crate of ammo for anything else

Dude, this happens in EVERY SINGLE GAME were you can collect items, for a PC Gamer.

It's the rarity effect, if something only has 1 or 2 copies of itself in the game world (or is the rarest on it's line of items) you'll just end up collecting it and putting it on a pedestal rather then using it

The summons in Final Fantasy 13.

They are basically unlimited and you just have to recharge your meter by winning a few matches with good rating, and yet I never use them. It's weird really.

I've never really used summons in any Final Fantasy game. They're generally not worth the MP anyway, anything you could do with a summon you could do with ordinary magic for half the cost.

In the games where they appear alongside the summoner and fight (FFX on, then) they tend to be significantly worse than the two characters they replace.

I had the same problem in Fallout 3 with mini nukes , also grenades.
When playing Team Fortress 2 I usually play as the soldier, but because he has so many rockets I never need to think that griping thought "I'll need it later".

I hoard items on THE FINAL BOSS, when you won't need them anymore after it.

For some reason, once I've fully repaired my best gear on F3, I try to use it less. Maybe because there's only 7 Alien Epoxy's left in my inventory and I can't bear to damage my Gauss Rifle...

i used my mini nukes as decoration in my house

i did fire 1 at each of the behemoths though.. just so i wouldnt burn too many stimpaks

the funniest way to kill behemoths (imo) is just setting up a long path of mines...

Fallout 3 in my house i had a MASSIVE stash of everything.

You know just in case.

I think I'm the same as most of the people here though, the super rare items which you want to keep "just in case" are still there in my inventory at the end of the game.

Yeah, I'm like that with every game. As a specific example: the Master Ball in Pokemon. Or, actually, pretty much any Pokeball that isn't regular/super/ultra.

I was like that when I was a kid. Not anymore though. If you're not going to use it, it's just dead weight.

I have that habit on Morrowind 3: GOTY for XBox. Enter Mournhold, kill a few High Ordinators, take armor, weapons and magic stuff, keep for a few days, almost overload with weights, find Creeper, sell everything, rinse, repeat.

Over and over and OVER AND OVER.

That's why I'm so rich. Seriously, I could bribe my way out of murdering the entire bloody world, save for one guard.

I used to be pretty terrible when it came to this. One notable example that springs to mind is the shrines in Diablo II - I'd "save them" for later battles, and then I'd be done with the area. Whoops.

My inventories in Final Fantasy games have been pretty impressive, simply because I wouldn't use or sell stuff I collected.

I went out of my way to collect Mini nukes in Fallout 3, thinking, they're rare, I'll need them for something surely. Never used them. The second time I played through I used one just to see what they looked like when they blew up. I promptly killed myself using them incorrectly.

I still collect them. I can't help myself. I store them in my house though, instead of carrying them around.

Well at least I now know I am not alone in my madness! I totally do this all the time, I save all my 'heal everyone and solve every problem elixirs', for when I will really need them and then they just sit there for the whole game, unused even though the chances are I won't actually use them in the final fight.

This is another thing I do. Though, for once in Dragon Age, I was glad I kept all my potent poultices. I actually did use them up like crazy in the final battle. But I have an absurd number of them still in Awakenings. I'm walking around with more than 300 poultices in total.

Elixirs, poultices and such must exist in some sort of nether realm where they take up no space.

Pretty much every item ever in any game where you can collect anything.
I have played through Chrono Trigger about 50 times and I still get weary if I have to use one Megaelixir even though I have 99 and will pick up at least 10 throughout the game.

It's just how I is.
