First off, welcome to the escapist.
Second, sexuality is a gradient. It's pretty easy to say "I'm straight/gay and therefore I am only attracted to people of my opposite/same gender" but that leaves a huge gulf in the middle. Myself for example, I identify as a straight male but I am capable of seeing the attractive qualities in another man. Not only that but I have my own preference for male appearance that it (drastically) different from that perpetuated by popular culture. Because of this some may potentially consider me bisexual even though I don't think I am.
Bisexuality isn't just what is portrayed in pop culture where a person is equally attracted to both sexes and actively pursues both. It's often just people that are curious or open to experimentation. From what I've seen on this forum the average age is late teens to twenties which is really when someone is forming their sexual identity so I don't find it strange that a lot of people would say that they are bisexual. I personally know quite a few people that are bisexual/bi-curious and I don't think I've ever been romantically involved with a girl that wasn't at least bi-curious (you may make of that what you will).
Edit: Can this please be the last "How does a bisexual work?" thread?
