For those of you who have been around a long time on these forums, you may recall a similar thread i made here a year ago. That project didn't end up happening (not assigning blame) but I did get some great music to use in other projects out of it. Regardless, I still want to make (or help make) a game, preferably with me as a composer/sound designer on the project.

Are you up to try something fun?

Edit: This is a brainstorm and then create thing

Edit 2: Wowee, we have a lot more support than last time. it seems the helpful poster rembrandtqeinstein has created a document to collect everyone interested in helping in to one place

I made a google doc where people and put their contact info and also game ideas

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R3jIUtk1LCjjT-Pntxn-R5r92-vmBqVsZNYjNVT6Xrw/edit?usp=sharing

The doc is public so anyone can edit it. Once we have everyone's info I'll make it private again.

Thomas mcmullin has also collected a small list of people interested in helping out:

While a lot of these sound like fantastic concepts. My only concern is there aren't as many coders as there are other interested parties. Rembrandtqeinstein seems like he'd be the fella able to become the head of Devs, if not because of experience, but because of availability. But this could turn out to be a lot of work if we try to start from scratch. I think the best idea is to find something that we can build on, like Multimedia Fusion, or RPG Maker, so those talented fellas that want to volunteer as a coder can focus on making what we have awesome, rather than trying to make something basic, then turning that into something awesome.

I'll collect everyone in a list plus their interests.

Coders (Most important. )

Rembrandtgeinstein (game mechanics and programmatic visual effects/animation)
Thedarklord197 (Java)
TheSYLOH (Extensive C experience, Decent Android and Java experience. Other commitments take priority. (Which totally makes sense.))
indigo945 (In descending order of proficiency: -Python -Java (not a fan) -C# -Racket -C)

Idea/Writers

Thomas McMullin (Also interested in map design/level layout.)
Bertylicious (Also interested in Voice acting)
Witty Name Here

Music

Thoughtful_Salt
Snappydog (Also Voice Acting, Writing)

Artist

Gundam GP01
Twosage (Also interested in idea/writing)
Saetha(Also willing to write.)

Voice Acting

God'sFist (Also would help with writing)
Chairman Miaow

Unspecified skill set/interest

What ^he^ said. Who brings the idea? Or are you going to wait until you have 5-10 interested peeps who reply and then hold a brainstorming session and vote it out?

How about a mario-kart, style game for PC where the racers are magical gardeners who grow their cars like vegetables and between rounds you can grow a new kind of vehicle by cross-breeding different strains of plant-car as well as using different grow methods to influence stats. This could take place as a sort of mini-game.

Characters could be colourful things in a chibi style like a fairy, a small, talking horse, a spooky ghost or a wizard.

Nobody seems to make 2D scrolling beat em' ups anymore and those that are out there seem to be all about combos. Basically just remake Final Fight but add the ability to block. For a fresh angle on the genre the game should be set in Rotterdam.

It is imperative that the "muscle" character is based on The Ultimate Warrior and that the music is happy hardcore.

A hex-based, turn-based, space-themed, strategy game where the player takes the role of a magical gardener who grows ships like vegetables against a variety of technological enemies. The research tree is an actual tree and players access new units and technology by splicing different plants together in an experimental fashion. This means that tech advancement will have an exciting "fruit machine" quality of experimentation that does not exist in other strategy offerings.

The player character will be a space wizard based on a cross between Alan Titchmarsh and The Ultimate Warrior.

I'M IN.

If anything does come of this I'd love to be involved in some way. I'm woefully unqualified to do anything related to games design but I guess I could help with the writing/ music.

Guessing the TS is a coder?

I suggest NOT trying to copy features from big games you really like, but to start playing with very abstract game rules (like a board or a card game or a puzzle) and stick to very simple gfx or even ASCII.

That way you have a fun little exercise that may even result in a finished game, that is unique enough to overlook the low production values.
Start out alone. Sound can always wait. You were bored, not inspired, so avoid anything that holds any hint of real ambition.

I think thoughtful_salt wants to do the music. How do you feel about sampling sound effects?

We're going to need someone who can code. Do you know anyone? We could also do with someone who is familiar with the growing of vegetables. A country type of some sort.

Hey. I'm pretty good with RPG Maker, and I legally own it, so we could market what ever we make on Steam. I'd happily be a mapper/story writer. (I can also script events, but custom sprites/systems are beyond me.)

Unfortunately I'm no coder, but I do know a fair bit about the growing of vegetables... which seems an oddly specific requirement, and frankly I'd be better placed to do something like writing dialogue, story, characters etc., since I'm halfway through a degree that involves a pretty hefty amount of creative writing.

Possible coder here.
Extensive C experience.
Decent Android and Java experience.

I'm right now just starting my second semester of my masters degree so time available is iffy.

My girlfriend's parents write cookbooks based on growing your own food. I'm your man, Bertylicious. As always.

I'm a hobbyist game developer whose been working on and off on various projects for the last couple of years

I gots programmin skillz and what I like doing is game mechanics and programmatic visual effects/animation, what I don't like doing is level design and really wish I had a genie to do it for me

Currently using the Stencyl engine because its easy to use, but I've worked with Unity and Gamemaker as well, also a bit with JMonkey

I occasionally livestream game development here http://www.twitch.tv/acp_twitch

If you guys are seriously interested in a project I could attempt to manage it. The first thing to do would be to form an Escapist group, collect contact information, skillsets, and availability.

-------------

current project:

hero smash: unfinished - arena top down "shooter" with the twist that you can't damage enemies directly, only move them around
http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/27369

links to my past work:

my "best" most polished game that I hope to take commercial if I ever get motivated to do it:
valance: modern remake of Atari game Atom Smasher
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/221516245/valance1.0.0.22/Valance-Default-1.0.0.22.exe

metal detector: find loot in the in the desert game

battlesnake: proof of concept - snake game with shooting
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/221516245/snake/BattleSnake-Default-1.0.0.7.exe

eyegun: my entry in one of the last Ludum Dares, made in ~12 hours entirely from scratch
https://www.dropbox.com/s/esch8rtevwrvueq/EyeGun-Default-1.0.0.2.exe

gasteroids: my 2nd "finished" project - asteroids but the goal is to collect gas that asteroids spawn
http://nodj.host-ed.me/gasteroids/gasteroids.html

poa: proof of concept hex based roguelike
http://nodj.host-ed.me/poa/Desktop.html

ice cream splat: toy designed by my then 4 year old daughter
http://nodj.host-ed.me/ice-cream-splat/e%20and%20l%20ice%20cream%20splat.html

psylord tactics: unfinished - my most complicated project, squad based tactical game with card elements, unfortunately didn't appear to be much fun after I put a lot of work into it
http://nodj.host-ed.me/psylord_tactics/psylord%20tactics%20poc%202.html

I'd like to be officially signed up as interested in both of these things, too. Maybe you and I could work together on the writing, that could be really awesome. Not sure if this is gonna have voice acting but if you need a British voice I'm up for that.

(I know I keep posting but I REALLY would love to be involved with something like this.)
