I'm considering getting a PS3, Convince me.

i have both and i have to say that my ps3 spends most of its time collecting dust. the only reason i got it was because my brother didnt like his and gave it to me as a birthday present a few years back. the only game i have played all the way and thoroughly enjoyed was metal gear 4 and that was just due to the fact that i am a huge metal gear fan. resistance, killzone, and uncharted (for the most part) are completely over-hyped in my opinion and i would sell my ps3 right now if i didnt use it for blue rays and i didnt know a new metal gear game was coming

you should try out the Uncharted, there stories are extreamly well told and it has a nice mix of puzzles and platforming.

That's not really an accurate picture, though. The stories aren't really all that well told (think cheesey action movie; that's about what the Uncharted plots are). And the Uncharted 2 story is nearly identical to the Uncharted 1 story, but they just swapped some nouns out for new ones. And the puzzles? The games are maybe 90-95% shooting and 5-10% puzzles, and the puzzles are pretty much always accompanied by a notebook that flat-out tells you the answer while giving you nothing else to go on if you want to figure it out yourself. It's either fumble around with no hints (other than a support character or Nate himself saying "maybe you should look in the notebook") or get the answer handed to you. No middle ground. Uncharted is not a series that should be played for its puzzles.

Bottom line is that the Uncharted series is first and foremost a shooter, and a few puzzles with no challenge to them scattered about in between all the shooting things is not going to be enough for someone who doesn't like shooters at all to enjoy the franchise.

I just bought a PS3 for this exact reason. I'm having to find something to put my 360 on to make it higher than the monolith.

If your a fan of mainly Japanese games then go for it, if your not then don't bother because EVERYTHING else is already on the X-Box and if your used to a certain system there's no need to spend on something else that does about the same things and something you already own.

This isn't a hit to the fact that the PSN is down (I'm a PS3 owner myself, and it saddens me that people are still in "attack Sony" mode) but it is possible that due to the problems with PSN, a PS3 would be at its cheapest right now. When I bought mine, it was about a year after the original release, and it cost me (and by me, I mean my father, the lovely man he is) almost 500 dollars.

Not to say that I found it to be a bad investment: I love my PS3. But I do know that the price was kind of a stickler for most. But considering the situation, it should be at an agreeable price by now.

As for should you get it? My fangirl response is "Of course! Sony rox! PS3 FTW!". A more reasonable response is that I think the exclusives for PS3 are not only better, but a bit more varied: such as the God of War series, Little Big Planet and Infamous (while other exclusive titles for other consoles are pretty much same formula, new paint). Also, the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD (another exclusive) release is en route, and it shall be awesome. The PS3 resolution is also just a shade prettier to me than the other consoles. And the PS3 controller (as with all Playstation controllers thus far) was made for the gamer's hand. Easily the most accessible controller of the bunch, but that's just my opinion.

I got my PS3 for the sole purpose of playing Armored Core and Motorstorm. However, Armored Core is also on the 360 so now the only reason I own a PS3 over a 360 is Motorstorm. It's a damn fun racing game.

If it's not a huge money sacrifice I say go for it. The PSN won't be down forever, and the PS3 exclusives are almost all excellent. You could play happily for a full year on bargain bin games that you couldn't play before like Uncharted, Infamous, MGS4 etc.

Considering you already have a blu-ray player and you're already obviously quite fond of your XBoxes (I can only assume you either use the XBoxes as media centers as well, or aren't interested in a gaming system as a media center)... I would say I have very little ground to give you advice on, because we value different things in our consoles. My PS3 is used mostly as a media center (for streaming video and audio off my PC when I can't be bothered to run a cable to it), blu-ray/DVD player, and for playing PS2 games (I have a first-gen backwards-compatible PS3). To me, exclusives wouldn't be worth it, though... but you probably play shooters with thumbsticks, so... no common ground there either. I imagine a lot of people will run into similar problems due to a lack of information in your gaming tastes.

I guess my advice is don't, then.

I love my Xbox, that is accurate, but I'm an appreciator of the art of gaming, not a console fanboy. I use my Xbox as a gaming center and a Media Center (mostly Netflix and some music) and I also dislike most "core" FPS games with a passion. I play Halo, and that's about the end of my FPS gaming.

Well, you'll find few games that are more artsy and interesting than Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. LittleBigPlanet2 is also good choice on the artistic side, especially with User created levels available (y'know, when PSN comes back up) and I've heard good things about a whole bunch of other games I haven't tried such as Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls and... *pulls one out of the sack* 3D Dot Game Heroes [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_Dot_Game_Heroes], which is essentially a customizable old-school Zelda game made of blocks.
There are also the racing exclusives (the Gran Turismo series and the MotorStorm series), but I'm not sure if that's your thing.

I suppose it could be worth it to you, then... but I'm not sure what you're willing to pay for access to such a limited range of games.

I'm an appreciator of the art of gaming, I play anything and everything, except Shooters, I have no appeal running around like a headless chicken popping Headshots like Popcorn.

Ha! Completely miss-saw your avatar, thought it was the Gears of War guy. To be honest, in my opinion Killzone is the best thing on the PS3 as far as shooters go (and I'm not a traditional FPSer). But I'm unsure whether you'd like it; it isn't about headshots (those are pretty worthless, it's more about machinegun charging with tons of allies and trapping the enemies in, well, killzones). If you don't think you'll enjoy Killzone or Uncharted (I don't enjoy the latter) then don't bother with the PS3 in my opinion.

As a JRPG fan, and a fan of the anime art style, there are several exclusives for the PS3 that I've loved. First is Disgaea 3, I loved the first two and the third is extremely enjoyable, goofy SRPG with lots of leveling and extremely high replay value (if you have to patience to go through hours of leveling even after the final fight. Second would be Hyperdimension Neptunia, extremely cultish (read if you don't like JRPGs don't even try) but to fans like me the game centered humor, the story centered around Sony, Sega, Nintendo, and Microsoft duking it out while faced with the impending doom of pirate software and social gaming is great.

There are several more "JRPG style games" like Ar Tonelico and Trinity Souls that I like as well, all PS3 exclusives. As for different genres you should already know about the many exclusive triple A titles like Little Big Planet and Killzone, both great series in my opinion. I've never had a problem with playing online when the system is up, with a good internet connection little big planet and Metal Gear Solid 4 are great fun online (although I'm 95% a single player gamer).

As for the system, having a lithium battery makes recharging the controllers easy, fast, and long lasting. Being able to change the harddrive easily is also a factor (upped my 60 gig to a 500gig, the great PS1 classics and games like Agarest War over the PSN fill up a drive fast). I never noticed much of a different in loading between my PS3 and Xbox 360, so even though the blu-rays can hold more they don't take long to load from.

Overall the PS3 has been my favorite system of this generation, I love my Xbox 360 but I can't say there are many games that I'll remember in a year. With the PS3 I still have games that I fish out of my pile and get excited over, which really makes a system for me.

A few more games that I loved:
Altelier Rorona
Valkyria Chronicles
Eternal Sonata (the PS3 version had the option of original voices, makes a difference to me)
Star Ocean 4 (same as above, nice to have the Japanese style layout as well)

There are several more games coming out later that I'm interested in as well, like Disgaea 4 and Catherine. Sure I'm into cult games, but that makes the PS3 my favorite system.

Next to nothing top do with PSN? My man!

-Blu-Ray player included. BR beats DVD in shiny movies any day of the week.
-Decent exclusives (MGS4, Killzone, LBP, Mass Effect 2 in the ME3 graphic engine)
-There are some wicked old PS1 games avaialble. Granted, you would need the PSN and some money for it (I'd recommend those cards you can buy on stores. Credit Card online was stupid in the first place). Such as Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Abe's Oddesy, FF7/8, etc.

...aside from that, there really is no major difference you will notice unless you want to argue about the nitpicking performance. "Oh no! Crysis 2 works ever so slightly more better on 360!"

In the end, it is your choice to make, which usually comes down to game availability.
