hold on...screen time can make you go blind? what about TV's?

I spent my whole day in front of a computer screen...cue paranoia

Honestly, I've been fearing that this is happening to me.

Then again I figured I'd get lazer eye surgery eventually...

That's a tough break, I'm damn sure I wouldn't be able to cope with that. Well I really hope you get better.

It can't. OP's optometrist was worried about degenerative myopia it seems, and advised the OP to limit eye strain as much as possible. That includes limiting time in front of a monitor, although that will not actually alleviate the myopia, or keep it from getting worse.

ah ok, yeah that makes sense. I mean the amount of time people spend in front of screens thease days youd think if there was a risk it would be more well known

anyway thanks

I have never seen a porno in my life, let alone masturbated to one.
That's probably one of the things you should try before going blind.
Well, they have brail porno now so...swings and roundabouts I guess.

Truthfully, I'm sorry to hear about your condition and I hope that it improves with time.
Best of luck for the future.

I`m glad for your eyesight still being with you at the moment; it`s sad that you`ll have to leave us but I wish you the best of luck for you, and your eyes, in the future.

Yes, I believe they call it "chronic masturbation"..

Joking aside and on topic.

Hope your eyes get well soon.
I have never seen a porno in my life, let alone masturbated to one. I'm not offended, just wanted to clear that up.

Anyway, when my mother and the optometrist were talking to each other, I overheard the word "astigmatism" being thrown around. So is anyone's wondering what exactly I have, that's the best answer I can give you.
I've had an astigmatism and been on a computer constantly for over 10 years. I call BS.
My average is about like your 30+ hrs possibly more.

I'd want some pretty solid reasoning behind why that's supposed to make you go blind, and then research the hell out of it because in today's world you damn near HAVE to look at a computer screen as part of school or work. Also aren't computer screens generally easier on the eyes than most TV's that so many millions (many with astigmatisms) stare at for up to 80 hrs a week?

Does this also mean that you can't watch TV? It's a screen...

I have known two people with this condition. One is a writer who now has a very successful career as a poet writing about losing her sight. The other was a computer guy, who I have lost touch with, but felt really sorry for, as he had to keep moving closer and closer to the screen to see anything until he went blind and I knew computers pretty much gave him his only joy in life.

I myself have central serous chorioretinopathy which is basically bleeding from the back of the retina. It could be the sign of an eventual oncoming stroke, or just lead to blurring in my vision. Whether it heals or not I'm going to keep looking at the shit I want to look at, so that in the unfortunate event that I am blinded, I will have some image memories to draw on while in the darkness. But certainly images of real life, and not those captured on a computer screen will be more useful if that were to happen, so perhaps I'll head outside too - (if only it wasn't 12.30am where I live).

Somebody's pants are on fire (cause they are a liar liar) - I haven't decided who yet. Now that the OP is gone I guess we won't know. I am split between incompetent optometrist, evil parenting, and fibbing OP.

Whatever this condition the OP suggested that it could get better with a cut down on screen time and with that they would be back. I have never heard of degenerative disease tied exclusively to computer use, that can be reversed by a reduction in use. Seems like something a mother might bio-engineer to get her kid outside. "Bio-engineer" being synonymous with "made up".

The OP should spend their 6 hours a week investigating what exactly is going on here... or grow up and stop lying on forums for sympathy.

How will you know? Unless he starts posting in braille...or his posts are filled with barks from his loveable new guide dog.

Is this a revenge attempt for the Internet making you blind...Tom?

Maybe we can assume that when he stops responding... he has gone blind?

Anyway that sucks mate, you made me all paranoid now about going blind - I even starred at a distant tree for a couple of minutes before posting... :) Best of luck.

BWAAHAHAH "Astigmatism" doesn't cause slow blindness.

This is your (fail) attempt from your parents wanting you to stop playing games and get outside. I cannot think of a single way that looking at a screen (unless you keep your eyes open and stare at it from 1cm away for a year straight) will cause you to go blind.
