You know that, at least I'm being honest about it.
So if anyone wants to report me for it, go ahead.
I never said I was gonna report you, Just making sure you're aware that someone might... Same way that advocating piracy in anyway, one word posts and using an ad blocker are bannable offences.
Of course I am aware, but thanks for putting it anyway. And also that means most of the users here, a fair few use ad-blocker.

It depends on the subject matter. A 10 year old lacks the kind of experience necessary to form an informed opinion on most subjects. That said, if the topic is within their sphere of influence, there's no reason their opinion should immediately be discounted. Working against them, however, will also be their likely inability to express their thoughts in a particularly sophisticated way. Even the most intelligent 10 year old is still a 10 year old, after all. They might feel something or intuit it, but not really know enough about how they think yet to know why they feel something.

It all depends on how the individual person acts, outside of any preconceived notions. If someone would choose to label themselves as this or that, then our notions of how they will behave may be colored differently.

In general the internet sees 10 year olds as loud, annoying, racist, homophobic idiots, and someone who made a point to say they were 10 years old would be seen in that same light.
Whether or not it's deserved is an entirely different matter.

I'm a pessimist who tends to have general opinions and impressions about things, often based on previous experiences with this and that.
For example, my experience with 10-year-olds is that they are not very smart. Their general knowledge is not very broad due to their short life spans, and most of them spend their time playing with friends and whatnot rather than playing Trivial Pursuit and getting every card drawn right, and that's how it should be.
I don't come to a 10-year-old for enlightenment, in fact I usually stay away from children due to the firm belief that they are indeed the future, but in the sense that they represent the scourge of the earth that is the coming generation.

A ten year old is less likely to make sense or have a good understanding of a situation compared to an adult. However this doesn't mean that this is always the case. A ten year old can still speak sense or give positive input into a discussion.

It really depends on the 10 year old and the argument being made.
-If it's about politics or sex etc. then i would think his argument would be less valid just because of the potential lack of experience and understanding of the topic
-If it's about something like religion and the person puts up a decent argument then the age is out of the discussion.

It would influence your credibility...in a bad way.

It's why, even though I'm probably old enough that this won't happen to me, I never disclose my age online.

Or let's say, hypothetically, that I was. Does that lessen the value of my opinion? Does that make my part in a discussion less worthwhile?
Yes and no.

No, because you are a person, and if you say something worthwhile, then your age is irrelevant.

Yes, however, because your age does matter in terms of life experience. The average 10 year old has extremely little life experience, and, depending on the topic of conversation, has very little reference or education in what's usually being talked about. Age doesn't automatically make you smarter or more wise, but there is absolutely something to be said about life experience. And 10 year olds don't have it.

My grandfather had fantastic advice, having lived through 2 world wars, immigrating to a new country with just the clothes on their back, raising 6 kids when barely having enough to make ends meet, being a cop, working in a troubled youth shelter, and living to a ripe old age. He saw so very much, and was able to teach me plenty. My dad has taught me so much as well, for similar reasons.

A 10 year old can't do that. And that isn't a slight against their age.
They're just inexperienced at life.

If course it matters.
If you're a pre-pubescent child, you are inexperienced and immature.
Your mental capacity is not yet fully developed, and you have not had the time to be well informed on anything really.
Sure, you might stumble on a sound conclusion, but you're likely to have done so prematurely and/or for the wrong reasons.

No, but the likelyhood of your opinion being valid on its own merit is far lower than if you were, say, 20.

Not due to age, but due to -

* More life experience
* Having had more time to accumulate knowledge
* Having had more time to develop your critical thinking skills
Those three points are connected to "lifetime" and thus to age. A 10 year old does not have a lot of life experience, hasn't accumulated a lot of knowledge (so far) and hasn't yet developed critical thinking skills....because he or she is just 10 years old.

Hmm. I'd have to say yes and no.. While if you are ten and you can present a point well enough it SHOULDN'T matter how old you are, but unfortunately it does. What it all really boils down to is adults don't want to be beaten in a debate by a child. It reflects rather poorly on them, makes them look unintelligent, and so they will dismiss the opinions of a child simply out of hand of not wanting to appear dumb. Such arguments like "I'm the adult, what I say goes." or "you're just a kid, you don't understand." And while I suppose the later can be very true, it shouldn't be used against a kid that does understand..

It substantially lessens the validity of your statements regarding adult issues, because you do have not lived any part of an adult life and do not yet quite even have the capacity to grasp what it's like to live a teenage life.

Doesn't really matter, though, as I wouldn't expect a 10-year-old to make a statement that one would usually hear from a 22-year-old or a 40-year-old.

They could well be a child prodigy, a cerebral mind capable of brilliant insights. But a 10 year old with have very little life experience to draw upon. Or to better illustrate my point, here's a famous scene from Good Will Hunting:

Generally, unless you are an extremely intelligent 10 year old, I won't take you as seriously as an extremely intelligent 18 year old.

But if you make out that you are an intelligent 10 year old, i'll take you more seriously, and equal to the 18 year old. Sort of the 'justice approach' of stereotyping, like stupid until proven smart.

¬¬ if we as teenagers have the attention span of a gerbil, i would say a 10 years old haves an attention span of a gold fish, and no 10 year old can really hold his ground in an argument because he cant possibly care "THAT" much about it in the first place...

but it all depends on maturity and actual experience, so if by 10 you are really mature and have experience in the matter at hand, its still dismissed because you are 10!

so yeah, its more because people think little kids are dumb....

My sisters thinks im wierd becuase I talk to kids like I talk to adults. I hate it when a child is speaking and an adult will tell them to shush or speak over them. It isn't a very good example to set.

On an internet forum you should be judged by what you say not what age you are or what you look like. Thats the whole benefit of online discussion.

Oh yes, I can read through this and see no hate towards 10-13 year old children which includes me so therefore you are hating me. None at all.

I have my opinions, and my age does not reflect that.

Being 10 years old isn't an ethnicity, or a lifestyle choice.
We've all been 10 years old, that gives us the credentials to judge how much a 10 year old knows about the world. We remember what it was like, we remember how little we knew about things.

When you're 20 you'll understand how little you knew when you were 10. And when you're 30 you'll understand how little you knew when you were 20, and when you're 40 you'll understand how little you knew when you were 20 etc. etc. ad infinitum.

read "ender's game", there's a side story about two youngsters who take over the world by participating in online political debates and gain a following before finally revealing their true identities.

anyways, in my opinion that's the greatest treasure of the internet. The anonymity allows you participate in any discussion and, if you so choose, give every one the preconception your a similar age as them. This allows your opinions to be taken seriously without having to prove your smart for your age. Just one of the many wonders of the internet.

by the way, I'm 14.

It's more correlation than causation. While being 10 in itself does not not mean you're less intelligent; younger people are statistically less experienced and brain developed.

It just makes statistical sense to assume you're an idiot, just as I'll assume a Doctor of Aeronautic Engineering knows a thing or two about math. It's possible to convince me otherwise, but my default is to think you're stupid.
