I'm tired of playing violent games.

The Katamari series is great. I could also use more games like that.
A game you end up destroying the planet, killing billions of people, isn't violent?

Mario games are kinda cartoony, but still technically kinda violent.
If Mario games are violent, then Charlie Sheen has a sense of respect for women.
you win everything in the world ever, my good man!
Now go get me a coffee to replace the one I just spat over my screen!

why not play a Final Fantasy Game?

there not violent

get FF9 its my personal Fave
Oh my god. I thought I was the only person who thought FF9 was the best :D

Hooray! /foreveralonenomore

OT: I'd suggest playing something like Puzzle Quest. It's not violent (unless you count exploding gems dealing damage as "violent")

If you do, then I think maybe something like Little Big Planet. It's lots of fun and not violent (unless you count falling in a pit and dying as violent)

EDIT: KATAMARI!!!! Seriously OP. Play Katamari. PS2 ones were great! The 360 one is ok. Either way they're awesome and mindless fun :D
I second everything above.
I'm guessing you're looking for non-bloody games? Most games have some kind of violence, either implied or the non-bloody kind of "violence" like in Mario games. Hardly anyone considers Mario games to be violent though.

Okami is a very excellent game and really not violent at all (cartoony violence, thats about it). I'd suggest you play it even if you weren't looking for a non-violent game :D
Besides that, there is Super Smash Bros, Catherine isn't really violent really, just kinda messed up, and a few other games that I own (mostly on the Wii and N64, lawl)

So you're after games where the difficulty doesn't come from defeating enemies? I suppose the main genre for that would be Simcity-style ones, where you're building something with a limited budget, trying to appease citizens/customers, that sort of thing. Maybe try Tropico 3. It's in the same vein as Simcity, with the fun twist that you're leading this corrupt tropical island nation. Plus it's like $10 on Steam.

This actually made me stop and think. It seems like just about every game I have ever played the majority of the game has something to do with killing enemies. Be it goombas, gigantic mutant monsters, people, zombies, you name it. Although E rated games are tame, they are still focused on killing things, just no blood and gore. It is still violent.
Extra Credits explored and explained this topic pretty well, I recommend watching that episode.

I'm getting tired of modern shooters, so almost in the same boat.

Try spelunky, get through the levels without using your whip.

I have the Telltale games pack from steam - most of their stuff is not violent, but it is point and click adventures, so it depends if you like that sort of thing.

There's the older "theme" and sim games - some of them are fun. There's an open source version of Theme Hospital... used to find that fun when I was younger. Rollercoaster Tycoon used to be popular, but never played it myself.

Minecraft on peaceful involves no violence. If you like designing stuff without the complexity or time consuming of farming stuff, go creative mode. (should imagine this'll pop up a good few times)

Eets, another fun puzzle game - similar to The Incredible Machine... which is also good. Both involve solving puzzles by placing items and creating Rube Goldbergy sort of systems.
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is only violent if eating pies counts as violence. The game involves controlling Winterbottom to complete puzzles, but you can record his actions, and have different copies of him doing different stuff (e.g. one hits a lever so another copy can go through the door to collect a pie).

That's all the ones I can think of that I've played and enjoyed.

Viva Pinata. So cute it made me vomit rainbows but my god it's addictive. Also try Tropico.

The first thing to come to mind was World of Goo but it has been mentioned several times already. I have not played it myself but I would love to I just don't have a Wii.

Puzzle/adventure games are great. There is one called Safecracker (PC) that has absolutely no violence. You just go room to room in an empty mansion and try to crack the various puzzle safes designed by its late owner.

There is a game called The Experiment (PC; also called EXperience112) with a very interesting interface and game play mechanic. It is an adventure game with puzzles and "investigating". I was not really able to play it because my computer is not good enough and it lagged too much so I am unsure if there is absolutely no violence. It is a suspense style genre so there are moments of scary things hiding in the dark and maybe dead bodies. I think I can assure that your character will at no point "attack" anyone or anything. At least the game play mechanic would not allow it in any conventional sense.

One of the best and one of the simplest games you will ever find, in my opinion, is Fantastic Contraption [http://fantasticcontraption.com/]. I have yet to play it but they have made a sequel. It is purely a physics based puzzle game. There is a similar style of game for PC called Armadillo Run.

Oh that's entry level stuff. I almost never play any games that are remotely bloody.

I'm looking for completely non-violent, or almost entirely lacking in violence, hardcore games that are worthy of lots of praise.

Final Fantasy games are very, very violent. So is Okami. So is Super Mario, to be honest.

Well, they're wrong.

This is looking pretty stark. It looks as if the video games industry relies on violence far too much.

There needs to be a lot more hardcore games that are not violent at all.

I think I understand what you are talking about. I don't think violent is the term you are looking for, though violent games would still be ruled out here. I would say while Mario games have violence in them, calling them violent gives people the wrong idea and from there people assume that you have a problem with the impact of the fighting.

Would I be correct in assuming you are referring to games where you solve your problems through fighting? If this is the case than I'd say, yeah, there is a disproportionate amount of games in that category. I could say the same for movies, except the ratio is waaay more lopsided where video games are concerned. I think Extra Credits addressed the issue when they were still on the Escapist.

Anyhoo, off the top of my head:
*most puzzle games
*harvest moon
*...

Well shit, I actually cant think of any more.

...wait, are you trying to steer away from the blood and gore kinda violence, or are you trying to find a video game where there's NO violence whatsoever? 'Cause if it's the second, I have no sympathy for you.
