I do expect most of what you said aren´t real life experiences (and if they are I think all of you are pretty amusing company). Now for two examples that happened to me:
I was playing some FPS or another for hours and after I stood up and looking at my hands I thought "Wow, that looks exactly like in games...".
For the next one I should probably tell you that I hate barnacles, they aren´t really dangerous or anything, only annoying and extremely disgusting (who on earth had the idea of making them puke upon death?) Anyway, there was some repair work going on on the roof and they had thick cables hanging down. Well, I go down the stairs and see that thick, glittering thing hanging in the twilight and although I had already seen them from above, from this perspective they made me freeze in an instant. When I came back the same thing happened again...

Immersion is when you play Final Fantasy XI for two years without realizing it was a shitty game.
I'm glad to see other people have barnacle stories as well. those little bastards scare the hell out of me. having said that:
immersion is being absolutely horrified of driving under a bridge in your boat because you just KNOW there are barnacles up there, and you forgot your pistol.
