How the TF2 spy can disguise himself as a Heavy with a makeup kit in only a few seconds.

How Commander Shepard has time to MMO his way past twentysome plants doing irrelevant sidequest while racing against Saren to save the universe.

Why your guildmates in Assassins Creed wont give you crucial information if you dont collect flags for them or kill people who want you dead, they even add times limits for reasons like "my back hurts". Also why the hell do the crazy people only disturb me and NOBODY FRIKKIN ELSE.

In Oblivion I pulled a Clamour out of a small coin pot. I imagined since my character was a mage that I could pull things like a rabbit out of a hat. Still, producing a huge arse sword out of a tiny pot is quite a feat.

I can't believe no one pointed out this impossiblity yet.

In any sort of modern shooter that has the main character with teamates (GOW, Mass Effect) you can simply heal team members with a button press or tap on the shoulder, and they're good to go. But the minute you die, well game friggin' OVER!

It's not like that this would comprise gameplay, Kane & Lynch had teamates that would heal you if you died but if this happened too many times you'd OD and permaneatly die, and I didn't find it destroyed the difficulty at all.

But then again the game mechanics made getting headshots impossible and the henchmen had the "bullet absorbing" qulaity of 50 Cent

freaking golden eye fire. It goes through walls...WALLS! which are of course perfectly fine afterwards.

also haystacks in assassins creed. I can jump off a 50 story building with incredible accuracy into a minuscule hay stack below and am perfectly fine. Further more no one seems to care. BUT if I get out of said haystack all of a sudden everybody's all up in arms wonder what I'm doing.
DID ANYONE NOTICE THE SWAN DIVE OF DEATH? NO.
that guy should have been in the Olympics, screw holy wars.

"Another visitor...stay awhile...stay FOREVER!"
Seeing the title drove me to post that..forgive me.

Impossible moments? Any game in which the player falls as little as 3 feet and dies from a collapse of his/her balsa wood-like spinal column.

MGS3: dont you love being able to perform major surgery in the middle of boss fights while they wait for you before resuming the battle?

Counter strike: if you kill a terrorist and he drops the bomb, why the hell cant you pick it up and get rid of it or something

Final Fantasy 12: i just reached this pharos lighthouse, had to fight a monster guarding the entrance, then had to do tons of complex puzzles in order to activate the elevator and go up, fighting 2 more guardians along the way, and once at the top, i find 2 bad guys there waiting for me, i have no idea how they got there, and since they had business of their own i find it weird that both parties arrived at the exact same time

My analysis is that it's more of a mental shield breaking down sort-of-thing. Say, in a sword-fighting game. Obviously you lose if you're cut, so I see the hits you take as the enemy starting to break through your defenses, not actually hitting you ^^
Do you mean to say that he was metaphorically impaled? Or are you implying a state of "readiness" that can lessen an impact? I'm sure someone else here has heard the old legend that Houdini could take an expected punch to the torso in stride, but was done in by an unexpected punch to the diaphragm (messed up his breathing just before a stunt and he drowned). Maybe, in a world where magic is real, the most potent defense is to mentally prepare for it. A battle of wills, manifested in the physical plane.

This would also explain the Halo "assassinations."

How come a headshot is an instant kill in almost every FPS now despite the contunual presence of these things that soldiers wear called helmets.
You're giving helmets too much credit. At least, they can't usually stop a rifle round. Especially around WWII. I used to have an old WWII helmet with two bullet holes in it... one going in, and one going out. From what I've read, a modern helmet will stop a handgun round at a distance, but anything more is iffy.

In any sort of modern shooter that has the main character with teamates (GOW, Mass Effect) you can simply heal team members with a button press or tap on the shoulder, and they're good to go. But the minute you die, well game friggin' OVER!
This same thing happened in the RPG, Persona III. In the game, you can have a party of four people, but you only directly control the protagonist. You could revive your teammates, your teammates could revive each other, but if you go down, its GAME OVER goodbye last hour and a half. That drove me up a wall once or twice.

While on the other hand the average soldier even without body armour seems to be able to take about ten SMG bullets to the torso and just shrug it off and keep going without so much as a decrease in walking speed or aiming ability.
New-fangled military helmets might be different (I still doubt it) but I'm pretty sure most helmets don't stop bullets. From my understanding helmets are only there for glancing blows, some shrapnel and blunt force.
Your second point is right though.
Edit: Beaten. Curse you Dr Faust.

That's not too far off. Houdini was being painted by a student (PR stunt) and the student's friend was there. The friend asked Houdini if it was true that Houdini could take a punch to the gut without pain, and Houini answered yes. The friend asked if he could try, and Houdini said sure. The guy, unaware that Houdini had to flex, punched him immediately, several times. It caused the appendicitis that killed him a few days later.

What about Mario? This guy goes about doing mushrooms, breaking up structures, stomping on the backs of turtles and setting the wildlife on fire. And he's a plumber who can somehow jump his own height!

And bosses - how often do you see bad guys launch into long diatribes where the hero (or anti-hero) stands there and listens until they stop and pull whatever trick/mojo they like and the boss fight starts. Why not just shoot them while they walk back and forth talking? Or how many of them do these fancy-pants 'power up' moves where they spin about and gesticulate and scream and flex and change appearances? SHOOT THEM THEN!

How is it that Gordon Freeman, a scientist, can somehow run and jump and avoid death from a million people while wearing a heavy HEV suit? And where did he get his military training?

How many of the bastards in Assassin's Creed lose their damned flags? Why do they need flags? Are these flags so important that the information you need is sufficient leverage? Why not join forces to look for them together? And why did they lose them in a convenient line?

Why is it in Oblivion that you can lay waste to thousands of people and not have someone bat an eye, but as soon as you pick up a wooden spoon while visiting someone or at the local tavern you suddenly get the local fuzz bashing down your door and demanding a fine? How are you supposed to eat if you can't borrow one of the many forks on the table?

And why dd Archmage Travan even let my dark elf babe into the Mages' Guild? Her best spell is a weak fireball, not counting the powers from local rocks. Surely he might have noticed during her internship that she spent most of her time running about with armor and a sword and never really did well with magic. And never attended a single class, and all she did was steal stuff and sell it. And yet he trusted her with his innermost sanctum and power over the Guild?

On that note, why do people see some random new girl wanderng about town and feel the need to ask her help with their trusted needs? Why not ask the local guards if they can spare someone to help find their lost kid?

Interesting. I'll have to change the bit about "caused", though everything else seems to match up okay. Namely that there was a guy who hit him pretty much just like I described, and that the blows may have hastened his death. I suppose the fact that he would've had appendicitis anyway (if he wasn't suffering from it before the attack) technically negates the story as "false" but it's still awfully coincidental.

Don't just read the bit that says False at the top. Read the whole thing.

You should look closer. It said that it may have hastened it only because he mistook the appendicitis pains for residual pain from the punches, not as a direct cause of the punches.

I don't see your point. I noted right at the beginning of my post that the appendicitis wasn't caused by the blows (which was news to me, back in school I did a report on this and back then it was accepted that the blows were the cause). Are you agreeing with me in disguise or something?

Ever play Oblivion? Aside from how impossible it is to get through the game without using health potions, healing spells, or resting for one hour and being magically healed (which by the way makes no sense on earth or in the land of umm... Morrowind? I forget) it just creates the coupling system that if you block someone and counter they are going to keep trying the same attack over and over, until some ghost attacks you at which you should use the "silver" sword because silver is a metal that can slice ghosts when your elven blade enchanted with steal soul won't (I named my sword Soul Thirst and it's on display in my house) but COME ON, it gets ridiculous how often you can use one brand of combat repetitivly on the one person till the next comes and you change your tactic by moving your sword three inches up and swing down.

Rant over...
Err what?
Potions, healing spells and resting are in just about every RPG out there, in some shape or form. What would you prefer, your character dying of gangreen or an infection when he gets a major wound? Which would be much more realistic. I'm not exactly sure what your "coupling" complaint is. What do you mean "the same attack". What are they supposed to do? Kick you in the shins? And as a final note, if, as you say, that sword of yours is enchanted, then it should take down a ghost, regardless of how much charge it has. (Although this may only work for offensive charges, but Soultrap, is, if I recall, just such.)

Also, its Cyrodiil, funnily enough Morrowind is set in Morrowind.

Most modern FPS and Action-adventure games: Inexplicible wolverine factor.

I prefer a HP meter to every single hero I play being wolverine, capable of taking fifteen headshots, being near death, but if I sit still for ten seconds I get fully healed again! Who DECIDED this should be the way to go for games? CoD2, Gears of War, Halo 2 and 3, Uncharted and to a slightly lesser degree, Resistance: Fall of Man. These are just the ones of the top of my head too, and only Resistance actually tries to explain your mega-healing factor away.
It's because of Halo's shield. It recharges after time. Other games thought it was a good idea, and so used the idea (though without the more plausible explination of an energy shield).

Beating Gaoh in Samurai Shodown V, Dr. Octavius in Spider-Man 2, or the StarWolf Team in the hard path of StarFox 64.

Oh, and the Icon of Sin in Doom II.
