Improve Bad Movies With MST3K Glasses

Is the latest Uwe Boll movie getting you down? Pop on your Mystery Science Theater 3000 Silhouette glasses and it'll all seem better.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Science_Theater_3000] has a special place in many geeks' hearts. It's been ten years since MST3K wrapped up, but it continues to delight and inspire people, including our very own Unskippable [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/unskippable]. It had a simple premise: Mike Nelson - or Joel Robinson if you're that way inclined - is an ordinary guy who is forced to watch terrible, terrible movies, along with his two robot friends Tom and Crow. In order to keep sane they make all kind of funny comments about the film, while silhouetted at the bottom of the screen. (pictured)

The glasses do one simple thing, they add the silhouettes of Mike, Crow and Tom to the bottom of, well, everything. The glasses aren't going to make terrible movies funny, but having the MST3K silhouettes might be enough to get you through something like the new King of Fighters [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95352-The-King-of-Fighters-Movie-Trailer-Is-Confusing] movie without going crazy. The instructions to make your own glasses can be found here [http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1345], and while they call for 1/8" acrylic and a laser cutter, you can probably get the same effect with thick card and a craft knife.

That's priceless. Add a few of my own comments while watching to make it all a better experience.

Haha great glasses! I love the idea!

Also for those of you playing at home, RiffTrax.com (or the torrents if your savvy) is worth a look if you like the acting from the last set of MST3K folks, Mike, Tom and Crow. There are no silhouettes but I personally had a great time watching the Riff of the sparkly vampire saga (and so did my friend, amazingly she actually likes the whole teeny bopper vampire pop thing from the get go, and she still enjoyed watching the RiffTrax of it too)! Good stuff.

Sweet. People can put these on and watch older Apocalypse Lane episodes.
Or new ones. :p
Oh God no! No one should watch those. LOL

People should watch one or two episodes and then give up on the series because of its lack of Fallout jokes and game references.

I was thinking more of the lack of nudity. :p

But yeah, I can see how any show without Fallout references can fall apart. That's why you need teh bewbs.

Crap, another movie I need to see. Let me just put in on my list next to Blade Runner and Gladiator. I can't see where I would use the glasses, but if the movie is as good as it sounds, I'll have to watch it soon.

I wish I had had these form some of my humanities classes. That would have made "Le Dernier Métro" MUCH more amusing to watch.

And the fact it's based on a real place. How lame is that? :)

Who doesn't already talk to the TV?
People who can't get into normal view, that's who.

OT: That's kind of cool. However, even though a movie may movie is terrible, I would like to see it in it's non-obstructed "glory".
