Improvement in game coverage

So I thought I'd ask this question since it was prompted, of all things, by watching G4. At the risk of introducing a bunch of unproductive "zomg G4 sux" posts, I'll leave it at that.

I'm wondering if gamers feel like coverage or media resources for games can improve, and if so, how? Currently, in this digital age, we have blogs, discussion forums, e-zines, and the like, along with traditional formats like printed mags and the limited tv shows we've got. Is there anything else that could be done with the current media or perhaps new avenues to increase awareness and coverage for games?

I would personally like to see more dedicated tv shows if the support is there. The market certainly is, and I really think that the puzzling limited success of gaming-dedicated shows means that perhaps the execution just isn't there, as opposed to the appeal. I'd like to see more industry support for the new forms of distribution for advertising, like iTunes and the increase in HD-formatted content.

What would you folks like to see? Or if you don't think any improvement is needed, why?

As for the fears of posts that contain "zomg G4 sux" as the main theme, don't worry. We've all watched it at one point or another. Anyway, it's actually funny that you would talk about how there aren't enough gaming shows. I think it's cause most of them are online (like said), and double as podcasts (Like Invisible Walls on Gametrailers). As awesome as game shows on TV would be, most gamers, I think, spend most of their time using a TV for games, and spend more time on the computer then actually watching TV, so more game based TV shows wouldn't work well (I guess).

Also, the few that are on TV apparantly are given (the people in the show) free reign in the studios in which they shoot. My coworker Vinnie's cousin (oy, convoluted (SP?), isn't it?) apparntly works with G4, and they were pretty much given free reign about a lot of things that most shows don't get.

Stop previewing alpha and pre alpha builds of games and hyping them into the stars and then lambasting the final product and just a general decrease in the number of douche bags that review games as a job.

You make a good point with the thing about the freedom of the few shows that are on television. It sure seems that way, with the things that are done on some of the shows. I find that casualness to be appealing though.

It's good that there are good online shows and podcasting is really making its mark - it's just that it would be great if there were a few tweaks made to give games a bit more play in the traditional media. We would probably have less (not none, I'm not that naive) of the bad stereotypes we get from gaming if there was a bit more awareness about it.
