Well, since others have posted their work here and are getting some cool criticisms and all, I think I'll put up a totally unrelated comic I did for my totally unrelated website.

Oodles and oodles of doodles galore.
Also, some harsh criticism would be preferred.
Nice style,but I don't get the joke.

I think the underline joke is that mario is worthless. I like the art work, but the writting could possibly use a little work.

Mario is worthless because he can't use a gun?I don't get it,gun-porn games aren't the pinnacle of gaming.

Well, I'mma take cues from everyone else and post up some of my other work

This is my comic I do weekly for no profit just simply because it's fun and keeps me active as far as comic pages go.

Playing the Game is also another way of saying "living life" which is what the actual focus of the comic is.

My submission to the contest uses a much more cartoony/simplified style and is aimed slightly more towards gaming without it being the main focus.

Sort of like this:

[I've posted the link because this one is a little big bigger than the comic page.]

[edit]:

I've also got another project in the planning/design stages called Lady Cadaver

No, but it seems as though everyone except for Mario and his neighboring franchises has to have something to do with guns and/or prons of some sort.

And plus I just like drawing Mario.

But ah well, thanks for the feedback ya'll. Much appreciated.

Ok lets all get real for a second.

A LOT of the submitted comics will be funny, there's no doubt about that. BUT, when the judges have to pick between two, almost equally funny comics, they will pick the one that is drawn the best. Now that I've got that little thought into your heads, it's ok to panic...

What I'm trying to say is that if your comic is very well written (you can tell if your mom says so) then you'll still lose to someone that can draw like an Old God (with It's divine three thousand maws).

A good example of a comic that is going to win is the one in the style of Mr. Archemetis. That is a wonderful zombie teenager. Now, I don't know how witty this man is, but if he writes jokes as well as he draws then we can all suck some soil under a rock (I bet it's not even fertile anymore).

And yes, I vomited a lot of cinnamon apple pies while writing this whimsical post. Ya'll come back now, ya hear?

I?m not sure I completely agree with that Sairex, if you take a peek at your favourite web comics (mine are below), you?ll most likely notice that the majority are more stylistically unique than artistically phenomenal, with the writing really pushing them forward.

Saturday morning breakfast cereal: http://www.smbc-comics.com/
Pictures for sad children: http://www.picturesforsadchildren.com/
Dinosaur comics: http://www.qwantz.com/index.php
Softer world: http://www.asofterworld.com/
(And of course the for mentioned xkcd)

I would hope that if the judges were faced with a Penny clone and something a little rough but different/original (I know its either extraordinarily naïve or egotistical to throw that word around but I mean of course within reason) they would choose the latter; though its worth noting for the record, I submitted one hours work of vector?ized mess, so I?m not giving myself an indirect nod here!

Anywho, Good luck all - everything looks grand :).

I assure you, there won't be two "equally funny" comics. And I doubt art will play a major role in the long run. As long as it can decently convey the idea visually, it's good.

Nah, the comic will be judged by what it is, rather than how it looks.

Hey guys, since you have the rights to your comics, and everyone wants to see the entries, what stops you from posting them yourself?

You people forget that comics are 50% pictures. Without the visual part, they would be merely text. I believe art plays an important roll here, far more important than some of you may think. ATturtle makes a good point, but forgets that the comics we read today started from nothing, built up and made a name for themselves in their own unique way. This, however, is a contest, a contest hosted by a major pop culture related website, the very fact that they offer a paid contract to the winner means that they will want some profit out of this as well.

Art and ambitions are nice and all, but in the final final hour, all shall serve the one...true...king. (by ''king'' I mean profit, sorry couldn't resist the refference).

You might accuse me of being very cynical and heartless, but this attitude and view on life is what helped me write my own submissions (also, the artist pretty much edited 60% of my scripts). ...I am crap.

The spacing is wonky in the word bubble near the bottom, the one "You know on second thought, nevermind.." Needs to not have that awkward space. Run the liens together and don't just leave nevermind just hanging there naked in the wind.
