Where's your Medal of Honour copied Modern Warfare article?
Hold up, you should have quit while you were ahead. Medal of honour is much older then the entire call of duty. If anything that should be reversed. It would be much more correct to say modern warfare copied halo because halo was the first hit game with regeneration and two weapon slot mechanics. your also evading the point, what your taking about is taking game mechanics from other games but also changing important things such as story. This article is alluding to the fact that this is the same exact game in everyway except graphics.

I was referring to the newest game, entitled Medal of Honour, not the series.

That's why I said Modern Warfare, and not Call of Duty--to try and illustrate tat point.

I hate it when games are named the same as their series, lol.

Is this really plagiarism though? I mean, Notch never really caught any heat for making a game inspired by Infiniminer, and Rovio never got in trouble for developing Angry Birds from the same concept as Crush the Castle.
There is a huge difference between being inspired and copying a game.

Notch was inspired by Infiniminer, but he created a completely new game.
Just look at those games and you will see that the differences are much more than just a new texture pack.
While Zynga is basically making a exact copy of Tiny Tower. It's the same game, just different textures. That is plagiarism.

I never really liker Angry Birds because of the fact that it is a copy of Crush the Castle and I assume it's the same with many other people.
But Crush the Castle is a flash game, while Angry Birds is a iOS game. Crush the Castle is free, Angry Birds isn't.
Angry Birds didn't really affect Crush the Castle because they don't interfere with each other in any aspect.

Zynga's game will negatively affect Tiny Tower, while being a copycat.

Just my opinion about the whole thing.

Nice. It's high time that a consortium of small developers pooled their legal resources to kick this fucking anal parasite into the dust. If not, then bad pubicity may sway a sufficient amount of Zynga's customers.
"Anal parasite"... hrmm... yes, that'll do.

I like to be somewhat creative with my insults, and I can certainly appreciate the effort others put into theirs. Well done.
Sorry I don't meet your standards of insult creativity. Though I haven't seen you come up with anything better.

Where's your every first-person shooter since Doom copied Doom article?

Where's your every game ever copied every other game ever article?

*snip*
Good point, but something so generic as a military shooter is hardly comparable. And I'm pretty sure it would apply to something like Portal for instance, if another developer went and copied the exact same game format and dressed it up in different graphics.

What's sad is that Pincus will consider this more of a compliment than an insult.
I can see him framing it and mounting it on a wall in his office, considering how much of a troll Zynga's CEO is.

Hopefully, Apple will do something about this. Maybe he'll reconsider his "plagarize now, settle later" attitude if Apple completely cuts him off from the market.

What? What part of "Well done." did you think was meant to imply that I was calling you out?

I thought your comment was funny, so I told you I thought it was funny. Not sure how you misinterpreted, though I guess the heavy amounts of sarcasm that usually pervade these boards are to blame. For the record though, I was being genuine.
Oh, sorry. Thanks for clearing that up, I was just being paranoid.

It just rubs me the wrong way when people jump on someone's team just because they're indie, or the underdog, or the hipster choice, etc., etc.

There's only so much you can do in a given genre. Blackjack will always be blackjack, for instance. This type of game is popular and it's very simple. Of course people are going to make their own versions of it within those tight constraints. I'm not saying that's good, but it isn't news worthy and it isn't anything new or shocking.

Ms Pac-Man started off as something of a 'hack'--an indie project to alter Pac-Man. The legit owners of the Pac-Man rights threatened legal action and demanded they stop, but upon seeing the game up close, decided to drop any legal suits in exchange for what we now know as Ms.

Doom, Quake, Call of Duty, Medal of Honour, Halo, Unreal, Fear, Need for Speed, Burnout - a vast majority of the gaming market is a reskined clone. Some have more depth and original content than others, and some stay very close to the originals. It's hard enough to be unique in a large genre like an MMO (UO > EQ > WOW > TOR), so when it gets down to super simplistic games, what can we do? One person makes the game, say, blackjack, and then no one else can make a blackjack game unless it's totally different?

Competition is good. There's a market there and people will fight for the customers. It's ugly. It can suck at times. But it's the way of the free world.

(I'm not saying I agree with any of these statements, but two games looking and playing the same is hardly anything of a revelation and don't act like this case matters.)

One company saw there was a market for a type of game and they made a product to compete in said market. This is how every industry works and if you want to go around taking shots at Zynga, you will also have to take them at everyone else, lest you be biased or uncertain of your own standpoint.

yes, portal is EXACTLY LKE DOOM in EVERY WAY!

i was wondering that that Imp was doing in a science center.

Man, i cant believe people defend these things. What part of the article did you miss where its THE SAME GAME? I mean....what dont you understand? Exactly?

Yes, and Minesweeper is exactly the same as Halo.

What are you getting at? I didn't say Portal and Doom are one in the same. I said most games in a genre are clones. Not only are Portal and Doom entirely different genres, they aren't even in the same eras.

Capitalized hyperbole and sarcasm, do not a good point make.

And if you want to complain about games being the same, I'll use your own argument against you: I suppose you despise every chess game that's ever been made since the original, right? You better write articles about the horrible ripping off and plagiarism of all those thousands of chess games. Or is it okay in that case? Is it okay for some games to be reskins and not others?

See how thinking these things through makes them clear?

P.S.: it's odd how you are so quick to assume the article is truth. You say "What part of the article did you miss where its THE SAME GAME?" So, rather than look into any of it yourself, you assume off face value alone that the writer is giving you information that is unbiased, correct and aligned with your own personal belief had you done some research. Do you repeat everything you hear in the news too?

So you DONT see how chess games are the same? Or you do?

And ive looked into it, yes, tiny tower and dream heights are the same game.

Obviously, youre just trying to be argumentitive for no reason to get people to respond to you. If YOU looked into it, you would see its the same game. It adds nothing to the collective choice of games.

"Where's your every first-person shooter since Doom copied Doom article?"

good job arguing with yourself. Im working on a game myself, and no, i wouldnt want zynga to copy and paste my game to steal it either. So yeah, have fun getting people to respond to you attention.

That... that was just pure awesome.

Zynga can't afford to be making mistakes like this seeing how they are losing their ability to retain customers. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/115382-Zynga-Loses-150-on-Every-New-Paying-Customer]
